Rolex Submariner - Fish Out of Water as a Field Watch in the Desert?

Nature Photographer Cheyne Walls travels throughout the U.S.A and Canada with his Rolex Submariner Date tool watch, photographing the brilliance of Nature and our National Parks. Capturing a photograph of Mesa Arch, Cheyne and his Rolex Submariner Date spend 14 days out in the roughed desert wilderness. Here are his thoughts on the Rolex Submariner.

I’m glad that as a true outdoorsman you’ve proven Rolex beats G-Shock under extreme weather and all other situations you’ve mentioned 👏🏽

G-Shock are good tough watches in most environments, but when it comes to below zero temps for a long period time they suffer with battery life and brittle plastic. Issues well made mechanical watches don't have.

Love this video, showing how the extreme temperatures have affect on the watch. I was surprised that g shock couldn’t withstand the cold temperatures… I had no idea!

Thank you, I did stop taking my G-shock when winter camping, it might have been OK on this trip. Its just those cheap watch batteries they put in the G-shocks. Either way the Rolex mechanical watch love this type of environment. Cheers

Awesome video again, Cheyne! No idea if you’d do this but I’d love to see/hear what kind of gear you use on these hikes. It looks like your choice of outer layer is a Cotopaxi jacket? Be curious what kind of base and mids you use. I LOVE these videos - the ‘watches in the wilderness’ type vids are also amazing.

Wow, watching your video inspired me not to baby my watch so much and actually enjoy it. I have a Starbucks and work in an office… your watch looks to be in similar condition as my “babied” one.

I have had it for about 4 mouth, but if you saw close-ups, it is pretty scratched up. I love that, every scratch is a memory. Use your watch for what is designed for and have fun with it. Being out in Nature and enjoy it, Cheers

I think new yacht-master 42 in titanium will be perfect watch for you. It's tool watch in it's own, light, scratch proof. Hope someday it will cost near it's retail price.
