Not sure I get the use of fish as a metaphor here... but yes, that's how businesses work. So long as your shit sells, you keep doing what you're doing.

I must be one of the lucky ones: bought my DeepSea Cameron last year and was fortunate to get another 'wait-listed' model this year and I have the warranty cards for both. There wasn't even any mention of "we're supposed to hold this but ...". However, this year they did remove almost all the stickers whereas last year they only did so after asking if I wanted them to. Since I'm not a flipper this isn't an issue to me. I love my DeepSea but I do agree that's it's not for everyone - no watch is.

I love sea dweller and deep Blue is my favourite Rolex

I'll stick to the Ginault Ocean Rover. Any company that has revenue in excess of $4.7 billion dollars (2016) and has managed to remain a registered charity is going to have some less than respectable business practices. If I was told I wasn't getting the guarantee card for 12 months after having forked out 💰💰💰💰 there would be a call to the card company to cancel the transaction. Good on you for your honest review and bringing this to people's attention. OUTRAGEOUS as you said.

I have the same argument.Rolex moved to Switzerland from London back in the day for tax purposes and established themselves as a charity! A charity by definition is a non profit making company.????? Good comment.

There are lots of senior citizens who have sold their house and belongings prematurely, so they could give all their money to charities... After that, they are enjoying their coffin apartment and taking the bus.

I have a Ginault Ocean Rover and a few other excellent reasonable Rolex alternatives. Even if I had the money to waste, I wouldn't touch a Rolex because of their attitude.

An Omega diver will be a better choice, looking better at least and less than half the price.

I was already going off Rolex due to recent practices and price rises.... but seeing the warranty card being withheld for 12 months, thats just taking the piss. You buy it, you get everything, end of.

Can you recommend a tool kit for watch tinkering about with straps etc? Thanks Terry

people say this watch is over priced and not very good value, but that farmer in Michigan was using a meteorite worth $100,000 as a door stop. he could've used a sea dweller instead and had $85,000 left over so think again all you rolex haters!

I got the 2017 model for 10.5K in Sydney - James Cameron model in Blue. Now I have seen the 2018 difference I want it, you are very much right about the balance of the watch on the wrist.

I'd rather have a Seamaster or Black Bay over any of Rolex's dive offerings. Not that I hate Rolex. I just thing that Omega and Tudors are more interesting watches.

Thick? Holy! Well at least if you need to change a light bulb you won't need a ladder, you can just stand on the watch.

Its thick, big and doesnt make sense! But its beautiful and you have to be an enthusiast to wear this thing. Got mine from an AD last week and Im loving it!.

Great honest review as usual Jody. All that printing on the dial and chapter ring is tacky AF if ya ask me (and I know ya didn't). Good rant about Rolex trade practices. I'd never buy a product from a company that was artificially limiting supply to create scarcity and inflation. And, I'd never buy one, period. I'd rather have an Omega or a Grand Seiko Spring Drive and pocket the difference. Rolex and all the homages are completely lost on me. If only Bond had never worn one... 🤔

It's closer to the heart lol...But seriously I would like to know the answer too. From what I know and learned so far you never wear a watch with a metal bracelet to tight on arm, some unwritten rule is to leave enough space so you can stuck a finger underneath...Only leather and rubber straps goes tighter on the wrist

Much like when people buya super car when they spend this sort of money for something they tend to focus only on the good things and ignore the bad. Very well done, and oddly balanced -just like the 2018 DeepSea :)

True story. A friend of mine owned one, and sold it for £11k a few years ago. He told me that although he had worn it for five years, he never had to change it's battery. Typical of so many Rolex owners I suppose

Hilarious review! I agree on all points. It’s a bit shocking that Rolex would release a size that makes such a classic watch almost gaudy.

The 50th anniversary edition (2017) is doable. 43mm, 15mm, 185g, 22mm-18mm and back to 20 at the clasp.

Plus you can get the same looks with a Seiko Samurai Save the Ocean, for a fraction of the price.

Good points made about the current Rolex market. If only potential buyers would make a stand Rolex and the (secondary market) might change. No sign of that happening anytime soon.

Don't Pagani do a blue / black fade Sub type watch now at 40mm? Pagani (in my experience) are excellent.

It reminds me of one of those wall clock safes. It looks okay until you see it from the side.

I dont understand why Rolex shun the 42mm dia w/c I think is the sweet spot for all wrist sizes.

You know, it’s all you watch reviewers’ fault that watches are so expensive now. When watches had a price, it wasn’t too bad. Now they have a “price point”, it’s much more expensive. Needlessly inflated, like the phrase. 😉

Thanks for the review, Jody. Although Rolex is a top luxury watch, it is not a high value. There's money and there's smart money. The smart money is likely flowing toward Omega or Grand Seiko. I own a Rolex oyster perpetual datejust, gold and steel. I bought it many years ago. Great watch but would not buy it at today's prices.

Very nice watch as you said for a big boys

I have a homage of the same dimensions and a large wrist, however, I feel the watch on my wrist AND have to look out for door handles and the like so I wouldn't damage it :) By the way, there is a watch in between the sub and the Deep Sea, the Sea Dweller, with only 15mm thickness :)

Please tell me that hand written card was a joke ?

I don't like the words on the chapter ring, 'escape valve' etc. Who is supposed to benefit from these words? The owner knows the features anyway, a casual onlooker can't see them! It's a bit like having 16valve, or turbo on your boot lid. Corny and pointless! 😁

Looks silly

Redisigned case and bracelett a very needed one. The Sub has to be redisigned as that maxi case does not match the bracelett size. Datejust, GMTII and Datejust already did their redesign. We are waiting for the new Sub case!!

I get that this watch is not for everyone but the fact that ‘you can only imagine it’s for people who want to show they have more money’ shows above all the limit of your imagination...

That "original gas escape" etc. signage around the dial is very tasteful. It must appeal to those that will hold their wrist up to everyone. Perfect for trash with cash.

I thought Rolex withholding warrantee cards was a myth! I am gobsmacked!

I'm surprised they don't have the magnification on the crystal for the date complication like most other Rolex's have. Especially for a dive watch that has large and clear hour markers. I don't like the bulkiness at all either and have never been too big a fan of the iconic Mercedes hands. Too much text in my opinion that distracts from the gorgeously blue/black gradient dial! But I guess it's just an acquired taste. Thanks for the review!

Ryan Bitzer they cant put the cyclops on the date because of the depth rating. It won’t hold up to the pressure. The 2017 sea dweller added the cyclops - it was the first deep sea to have it.

Great vid - glad I've found your channel, subscribed. Totally agree re JC Deepsea, though I do like them. Rolex sales practice is a disrespectful disgrace - reminds me of Porsche UK. The problem with even genuine Rolex JCs on the grey market is that many are re-faced black dial mods. Beware.

Wow. I didn't realize Rolex were doing this shit back in 2018 too. Crazy.

Remember, you can wash your hands just fine, BUT don't ever shower with it. And I would avoid swimming too fast with it. The pressure increase due to swimming at high speed may penetrate the 4000m WR case.

Even too chunky for me and I'm rocking 8" wrists! My ideal Rolex is a black dialed Explorer. Decent size, unassuming and beautiful simple. I blame my Seiko Alpinist for this change away from my former favourite, the ubiquitous Submariner. Still.... my grail watch is a vintage mkII speedmaster pro.

8" wrist makes this watch perfect on that sized wrist! I have 7.25" and it doesn't look ridiculous at all!

My Age Girl/Ali Express version cost around $100! Automatic movement too. Hmm!

3900m WR kinda tells you about how tough this watch is. Hardly ever anyone dives more than 200 meters. Most common depth is above 50 meters.

Good honest review without kowtowing to Rolex. If you visit to Oregon the single malt whisky is on me...unless you want tea then talk to my wife.

Please go back and review $50 watches. Thx
