    exactly, i got almost everything i asked for but had to buy extra diamond jewelry i never wanted. So after a 6 figure spend I am telling myself no more msrp + 10k spends (ok if i get offered a panda sure, maybe) for crap not even worth the sales tax on that amount. I look forward to being able to turn down the unwanted crap that is allocated to me or just getting back to the ADs actually wanting my business. I have 1 great AD not gonna lie, a few others were such POS with almost active disdain when you inquired about anything rolex related that it would almost turn me off to the brand if I were a newbie trying to acquire my 1st rolex (my 1st was in 1995). In the mean time my 12 yr old daughter's all filled up with jewelry. Next extra spend amount jewelry was going to go to my pet

    Basically, confirming just about everything we already knew. What is intriguing is that it appears the secondary market has become a game of hot potato, AD’s selling to dealers, dealers selling to other dealers who look for another dealer or a sucker (I mean consumer) to absorb the multiple markups. Sounds like a classic bubble to me. It’s no real surprise that Rolex basically condones the behavior, or at least passively tolerates it. They have become DeBeers. They created a market for their product through advertising, they control the supply and thus can set their own price without fear of competitive influence. My friend works in the luxury goods business and shared this thought with me: you know how to tell how much a luxury good actually costs: try to sell it back. Holds true with jewelry, cars, diamonds, and yes even watches. My only suggestion is don’t play the game, or at least don’t be the guy that gets caught holding the hot potato the longest, you’ll get burned…

    Of course the ADs are hoarding stock. Where do you think the 1 million Rolex watches are? They're not on anyone's wrists!! They're in an AD's vault hoarded like gold bars at Fort Knox. You hear stories of certain individuals and celebrities just rocking up into an AD and immediately been offered whatever they want. Do you think the AD has a magic factory out the back where a golden goose just lays a Rolex? They obviously have them in stock & select who they sell to. I've noticed recently that the unloved sports models are becoming easier to acquire at AD's. These are the Explorer II, 40mm Yachtmasters on steel bracelet & Air King, Milgauss and some Sea Dwellers. The reason is because the demand for these on the grey market have fallen and grey dealers are trying to panic sell them at close to MSRP. This has therefore made it useless for ADs to hold onto them, so ADs are offering them for sale more readily. If you walk into an AD today and ask for any of those dog sports models, you'll most likely get a call from the AD in a few weeks to pick it up. You should then tell the AD to screw themselves.

    @@AAnt1993 Rolex will most likely open their own boutiques and ditch the AD partnership. Tudor have already started opening boutiques, so Rolex will most likely do the same and reduce the AD network. Then they can fully control supply and distribution as well as the CPO program. Once they occupy this space then ADs and grey dealers will slowly disappear because they will be priced out or unauthorised and unable to service Rolex watches anymore. Rolex will then be able to increase their prices to make the brand uber expensive.

Just over a year later, the same model is valued on Chrono24 for nine thousand dollars less, and there are currently almost 1,200 available through that site alone. That's it. A better watch. Spending money on fake watches helps the hype on those brands and the only damage you wish to do to the brand in reality you do it to yourself. Edit: by the way, the feeling of being a poser will always be there. No matter if people cannot spot it's a fake one. We got calls from two ADs, with no buying history, in the last six months, for the Rolex models we wanted. Rolex makes approximately 3000 watches a day. None are going to ADs in Russia, the crypto buyers are way down, and the Chinese real estate market downturn has taken a number of Chines out of the buyer pool too. In fact, there are numerous reports that Chinese are selling their luxury goods at a loss to cover their debt. Check n with your AD, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Watchfinder are the biggest culprit considering they are aligned with one of the biggest corporate entities.

    Well you hit the nail on the head there Watch COMPANIES, not charities!! They were set up to make money, profits etc...the fact of the matter is that the people who set them up realised there was a niche and people were also realising a value of the product....tbey were not the drivers of demand, more servicers of the demand. The hype lays elsewhere, and as such believe you are wrong in the summation that these companies are responsible for the ridiculous state that some prices reached...even Roman was aghast of a 60k Daytona!!

The reason they tanked is Asians were in lockdowns and they couldn't fly the watches to Western countries for resell to launder money out of their home countries. Same goes for Roman with his Russian ties. Yeah I know the lockdowns ended but do realize there is a delay in any market before such is seen to affect it. I'll buy a Rolex when it's fully available like before (I walked in AD in 2019 and all the gold/two tone GMT, sky dweller, yatch master... were there ready to grab). Sadly, where i am staying in Asia, rolex prices haven't really "Crashed" 25%. there's a decrease in price, but they are still above RRP. I recently went to a rolex AD to check on prices for a datejust with gold/steel jubilee bracelet and a white dial face and sunburst dial. it was going at U$13k, i thought that was quite mad for a date just. then i checked on the 2nd hand market and someone was trying to sell the same watch at U$14K. yes the price is higher than RRP, that was expected, but the difference from RRP was way lesser now. i remember at the peak it was going for U$16k and even more for some other datejust variants. In asia, the prices are quite a range, in Japan and Korea, Rolexes can be much cheaper than the west. But moving southwards, like south-east asia, rolexes can be much more expensive. Though i find Rolex prices in Singapore and Malaysia more stable. Thailand and Indonesia, the rolex prices are still very high since they cater mostly to the very rich in the country. I am not familiar with the rolex market in China, but I am going to presume it is the same as Thailand and Indonesia, where only the really rich will buy. I went to some pawnshops and some 2nd hand watch dealers recently and saw that their prices are really high still, and when asked, the owners can only say that they bought it at a high price during the peak, so if they follow the western prices, they will be making a lost.

    And do you know the reason for this? It's because luxury Swiss watches are used as a vehicle to launder/move money out of Asian countries to the West.

  • @oysterman962

    @oysterman962

    Жыл бұрын

    @@LudicInterface Yes. It is true that criminal syndicates are using watches to launder money. They have diversified on their portfolio of property, gold & cash. Wearing an RM or steel sports watch through airport customs is so much easier to transport hundreds of thousands of dollars legally than having suit cases full of cash. It was partly influenced by criminals that made steel sports watches and carbon RMs high in value. Do you really think Nautlius & Royal Oaks in steel are worth more than solid gold watches? It's a ponzie scheme designed to trick you. It's only worth what criminals are worth paying for them and everyone else just followed the hype. Once criminals have exchanged a watch for hard currency they convert it into gold or property. There was a bust & arrest recently in Australia of a Sydney based triad syndicate that was laundering money in this way. The police said the haul of watches was so significant that even one individual watch seized was worth more than the average man's lifetime salary. Also the vast amount of commercial properties they bought with the laundered money, based in the CBD and in affluent suburbs, that the combined value was so significant it had an impact and influence on the increase in real estate prices in Sydney. There is now an investigation of the severity of such activity. I wouldn't be surprised in the future if watches will need to be registered or additionally taxed over a certain amount, or declared at airports if they're worth say $10k or more. If these harsh measures get passed as law, I guarantee the price of luxury watches will tumble in value.

    💯 this enormous uptick in the market is just part of a cycle that occurs in various markets from time to time. There will be a reversion back to the mean on prices for Rolex, the AD’s will have to learn how to sell and build rapport with retail customers once again. They can enjoy the time gouging gray market dealers and customers, but when the tide shifts they’re gonna have to pivot or go belly up.
