First released in 1971, the Rolex Explorer II built on the Rolex Explorer collection by developing a watch intended for use by arctic and cave explorers. This new model included several features that were extremely useful in areas that did not have a reliable day night cycle. Although the original Ref. 1655 wasn’t a particularly popular when it was first released, subsequent references gained traction and elevated the Explorer II into the watchmaking icon it is today. It still remains a highly coveted sports watch in the world of Rolex.
While it may not be worn exclusively by Arctic and cave explorers, the Rolex Explorer II has cemented its place in the lineup as shown by its over 50 years of continuous production. These vintage Explorer II models represent a unique opportunity for a watch collector to focus on a particular model, or even collect several versions of the same watch.

1986 Rolex Explorer II (Ref. 16550)

This pre-owned Explorer II (Ref. 16550) dates to 1986, and it is in excellent vintage condition and was just fully serviced. The white dial has aged to a rich cream color, creating a unique look that is very appealing. Sorry, no boxes or papers with this one.
