Role of Community Seed Banks

We are in the community of Nunayu, who has put in place a community seed bank. Its implementation started in 2021, and the seeds in it are seeds recovered from the project through its different work in research, those have been stores.
This has increased the biodiversity of potatoes that they had approximately three years ago. They are now being joined by some conservationist producers from this same peasant community of Nunayu, who, at the time of recovering the seeds, make sure that not only the seed that the project had given them, but also the seeds that they were storing year after year. And that is allowing them to have a greater amount of seeds in the warehouse. Suddenly, in potato cultivation, the seed is a little different, because it is not a seed that can be stored for 2, 3, 4 years.
and it has to be refreshed every year. If you leave it and don't plant it in a campaign, it won't be useful for the next campaign because it's a kind of fruit, a tuber that dehydrates and it won't be useful for the next campaign.
So what does that do? The community has to lend that tuber in that agricultural campaign. So every year it is given to different commoners, and the commoners return it with an interest. But the interest is only in the amount of seed. It's not in money, it's nothing like that. For example, they lent him 100 kilos, and the next day he returns 20% plus 120 kilos of seed.
And when they return it, it's not necessary that they return the same variety they gave him, but they can return other varieties that they consider. So, in this way, they are seeing themselves as a conservationist community, not only as a conservationist producer, but as a conservationist community. That is the work they are doing in this bank. That is the work they are doing in this bank.
Very good, thank you very much
