    Nicholas Cruz This is exactly what i did! I was a year into my 3 year nursing program. I was getting nervous and was really doubting myself and feeling uneasy about the whole thing. I decided it was not for me and the day I quit school was the same day I applied for the PTA program that starts in August. Also, I have been a massage therapist for 8 years now so it makes more sense why I feel more comfortable with the PTA career vs being a nurse. I subscribed to his channel. This video was awesome!

    This was the first video i watched when i searched "Physical Therapy Assistant" and i gotta say, I'm blown away. I also live in Michigan and, for the most part, this video answered many questions for me. I have always been involved and intrigued with helping people feel better on a physical level, but i feel like this video really spoke to my core. I am not a massage therapist, i am not a certified physical trainer, i am not a nurse or dietitian, and yet i feel i have fulfilled these roles for some people. Every person i have "coached" or helped out has always left me feeling like "this is what i should be doing with my life" or "I wish i could get paid for this" but i have never give a PTA position hardly any thought until someone told me i should be a PTA the other day. After watching this video, i can honestly say that for the first time in my life, i know what i want to do. I looked up the requirements for a degree in this field and surprisingly i have all but one class of my prerequisites completed. I am seeking to go back to school shortly and finally complete my degree. So thank you for this!

    I am a 46 years old male. I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2003, not that I have been a working therapist, but we won’t put that on my resume😂 Anyway, I was in PTA school 14 years ago and left when we had a house flood. I have now been accepted and start in August 2024. It’s a two year program. I’ll be doing Massage when I have time. I find it ironic that I can evaluate and treat patients as a Massage Therapist and even emailed the board about using weights and exercise and it seems I can do that as well. But as a licensed PTA I can not evaluate and create a treatment plan. I did some observation at an outpatient physical therapy clinic and loved it. You’re correct in that it is a mutual team work relationship, not like a boss saying do this and a PTA can supplement similar exercise that have the same range of motion, if it works for the patient better. PTA follow the plan, but it’s more of an outline for the PT’s intention because a PT is not going through all the exercises each time. A lot of patients don’t continue exercises at home and slow their recovery and ability. Others kill it at home and come in ready to rock and roll, fortunately this was the majority of what I saw in outpatient. What I hated about outpatient, standing not doing anything but observing. Most of the PTA was not as hands on as I had expected. Most exercise is done by the patient and observed by the PTA. Part of this is billing. They keep in mind, like you mentioned, what maximizes their time, but really what maximizes billing. Manual work may get the job done but hands off modalities pay more, both are just as effective as the other.

    I am seriously considering PTA as a mid-life career move but I am concerned about job prospects. I was recently told that medicare will be reimbursing 20% less for PTAs starting next year. How do you think this will affect the field?

  • @terryharris9265
    @terryharris92654 жыл бұрын

    Great video but I think it is significantly important to add that in treatment sessions the PTA must provide education to the patient. In my opinion, this is one of the most important responsibilities of a clinician, yet is one of the least that we follow through with. At times the physician doesn't have the time to fully educate patients in anatomy or movement issues related to their current deficits. We must educate clients on expectations of the surgery, inflammatory response as it relates to healing and surgery or trauma, causes of pain related to diagnosis, and also rational behind use of exercises or modalities. Education allows the patient to feel we are professional and competent. Knowledge will put clients at ease with recovery. Terry Harris, PTA '97.

    I’ve always felt like I wanted to go into nursing but my moms bestie is a pta so I’ve asked her about it and I don’t really know if nursing is for me!!! I don’t like hospital setting, I don’t like other people’s bodily fluids, and I don’t like school. In my state I’d have to do one more year online for a bachelors for me to even keep my RN license!! How annoying is that.

    This is so encouraging! I've been employed with the government for 18 years as an Administrative Assistant. I"m so not full filled, or making a difference in lives. Throughout the years I've always dabbled in Health & Wellness MLM companies. I've obtain a personal trainer cert, AA Degree in Hr, BA Business, Real Estate License ect. So, I know god put the entrepreneur spirit in me. I've allways wanted to be a DPT but my hardships prevented that. With a son and working full-time, it would be hard to pursue DPT right not. The school here in Vegas wants student to attend full time. How the heck will I survive financially. I've been praying asking god should I pursue PTA program or just get the comprehensive cert in Pilates. Pilates is good for rehabilitation too. I"m mat Pilates Certified. My job will pay for some of PTA courses, but most classes are during the time I work. Oh my, pray for me. I almost want to quit my job and have faith. I may have to depend on god and the state financially if I do, but I know the it will be worth it in the long run.

    Should you have passion for this field? I have been into fitness for quite a few years and am starting my prerequisites this fall for the PTA program, because I feel it's the best field for me as far as investment to debt goes and prior knowledge that I have accumulated over time; I just want to have more of a passion for it then I currently do.

    MC Adams I feel like the more experience you get in the field the more in to it you will get. Passion is something you can create and grow so even if it is not exactly there currently, you can grow into it more and utilize your strengths that you currently have. My passion leans more towards presenting new ideas and helping people make a change for the better in their lives, so I utilize video and communication in physical therapy so it’s not always just working one on one with patients. Find out what you love to do and figure out how you can integrate that into physical therapy!

    Hi Antonio! I am going to reapply to the PTA program at my community college. Due to COVID-19, I was unable to do observation hours. If you don’t mind, may I ask some questions I would typically ask during observation? There are the questions: 1. What is your biggest challenge as a PTA? 2. Why did you choose PTA over PT? 3. How do you deal with a difficult patient? -Thank you in advance.

Just had some questions is there any way that I can work as a Physical Therapist Assistant? If so how, if not why. I took the majority of the classes that's required in the PTA program so I was just wondering.

    Thompson, I recommend you to do the DPT program. But, do it only if your passion for help others is genuine and after you become a DPT, practice with respect, passion, integrity and ethics. Don't become like some DPTs that pawn off their patients to unlicensed aides.

But I put all that aside when I had my kids, and I have been a SAHM and writer/editor for the past several years. I still continue to write, but I am looking for potential jobs in the future when my kids are older. I am hesitant to go back to any kind of schooling because it is a huge time/money/energy commitment, and it is always hard to tell if you will really like a job. Thanks so much!
