Payson Lewis will forever be my favorite Peter. He brought so much emotion to the songs he sung. I haven't been able to find anyone better. Now, Payson Lewis AND Jonah Platt... those two together are the best things to ever happen to "bare."

I always sort of blew over this song in the original production. I didn't really connect to it. I always felt like the song was about Jason's struggle, and I always wondered why Jason wasn't singing about his own struggle. Plus, we've barely seen Jason at this point, so this song was just eh. And then when the song was switched to Jason and moved to much later in bare the musical, I thought that was an awesome change. It seemed to become more of a reaction song than an exposition song. I thought it made much more sense, and I liked the song a lot more. That being said, after seeing Payson perform this song... I love it for Peter. How could you not with the level of emotion he brings to it? I feel like no one else playing Peter has ever done it like he has. Bravo, Payson. You are quite the talent. I have to say this version of Bare is by far the best version of the pop opera/rock musical there is. Amazing.

This sing was about Jason struggle yes but it was also about peter's role and if he's a phase or something real. Peter should sing this because it worked better for me I mean now you don't really get what's going through peters head except I guess in ever after and best kept

It totally fit Peter, he was in a way forced to play along with what Jason wanted, pretending to be happy with what circumstantial relationship he had.. I had the privilege of playing Peter and I can tell you I connected on so many levels with this song and the character.. Peter knows that Jason questions his sexuality, while Peter the entire time knows what he wants.. this song fits Peter's internal struggle perfectly, he in a way is living a Fantasy (as even Jason calls it several times) this is Peter's way of crying out hoping that Jason will one day decide that Peter is who he truly wants to be with in public, not just in secret..

On the 99 demo recording it is sung by Jason, and lyrically it is about his inner conflict and struggles. I enjoy the musical version, but in the pop opera, mostly for the lyrics, I feel Peter singing it it's the better choice

I feel like it makes sense for Peter. This song is a response to You & I where Peter goes, "So we'll tell my mother" and Jason goes, "Let's lay off the crack." At this point Jason doesn't really want to rock the boat, he likes how things are but Peter obviously doesn't. Peter wants something more. Right now his identity is being suppressed by Jason's unwillingness to be open about their relationship. The struggle is being frustrated with what Jason is allowing and what Peter wants because a majority of the relationship is an act (in public at least). There's guilt there too because Peter knows there'll be repercussions if he comes out and drags Jason with him. Wanting to be out feels like a selfish desire because Peter's the only one who wants it at this moment. And in the end there's just resignation to keep doing what they've been doing because he's too scared about what change will do to their dynamic.

I wasn't sure about the re-adaption of Bare; it wasn't bad by any means, but maybe the set just seemed a little... lacking to me. But despite that the actors really made it an incredible adaptation- I was moved to tears by this piece and can only hope to be as good as this performer. By far my favourite song on the album, and portrayed beautifully.

Payson Lewis is honestly the best Peter in the history of Bare. I say this because, he's got the holy trinity of theatre talents (Singing, dancing (As seen in Rolling) and acting) and also he's able to get around things like his own real life relationship to make the story of the play make sense. Payson in this show is playing a gay character, despite being a heterosexual in real life, he did well to make the relationship of Peter and Jason work onstage, having real Chemistry with Jonah Platt (Who plays Jason McConnell) and even executing well-rehearsed kisses (Which weren't faked) the amount of raw emotion he puts into the performance makes the character feel like a real-life person and not just a fictional aspect of someone's imagination. he honestly did well. This is also Personal Bias towards Lewis because I discovered the live musical through HIS performance of "You and I" with Platt and the rest of the ensemble cast.

Payson Lewis pure talent I say, this song constantly makes me cry. My fav musical/pop opera. Such a beautiful role to play, I’m a countertenor and I understand that this song may be hard for people to connect with or hit the notes. I guess you have to listen or watch it first before attempting to sing it 😊😊🎉🎉🎉

Everything's an act, When you're pleasing everyone. And he assumes that role To such renown. He plays a perfect part, Straight from his heart Knowing the risk he takes And hoping that the house Is not brought down. The role of a lifetime, it's living a fantasy. A drama that you struggle to erase. Thoughts battle words over deeds A war with such casualties. All played out behind a smiling face. God I need your guidance Tell me what it means To live a life where nothings as it seems. Spending days in silent fear, And spending nights in lonely prayer. Hoping that one day when you wake, Those feelings won't be there. So confused because I feel complete with him. When we're alone it all somehow makes sense I look into his eyes for some compromise Remember the word, forget And try to bury something so intense. You learn to play the straight man, Your lines become routine. Never really saying what you mean. But I know the scene will change, White picket fences, and a dog, A trophy bride, and children. God I know that's what he wants But Jason what role do I play, Am I a savior or a phase? Am I here to damn you? Or to help you navigate this maze. Where confusion is a crime, So you fill your life with sound, And if you dance like hell, You hope you'll never touch the ground. What happens when the music stops? In the silence will he stay? One day he'll realize that these feelings aren't going away, So we drive ourselves insane, Spinning circles in our souls, As we dance around and play pretend. And once again, Reprise our roles.
