Roldan había peleado con Hagler en 1984 , esta pelea es de 1987 (misma cartelera de Hagler vs Leonard).Seis meses después peleo con Hearns por el titulo mundial.

Juan Domingo Roldan, Guerrero del ring, vi sus peleas, un hombre que si ha tenido técnica hubiera sido una leyenda. Lamentablemente perdio la vida trágicamente. Muchas veces la vida nos guarda la factura y luego nos las cobra, que broma.. mis respetos saludos desde vzla..

Roldan was a quality top 10 Middleweight fighter! Real Bull of a man with good foot work and head and upper body movement. Throws punchies from different angles, a real night mare to fight against plus he was strong too.Gil Clancey was right though you have to move into Roldan and box in the inside and work his body other wise he'll catch you with the thudding looping punches if you move away from him. Better said than done

38:47 When your corner has so much respect they don't need a white towel to stop a fight. Kinchen is one of the best 2nd tier fighters of all time. They rightfully refused to allow that to continue.

Roldán is certainly a fighter that showed up to really fight he leaves memories of excitement

Duran would out smart him,Duran had great strong jab,and better foot work and defense,hard to hit Duran Flush

Roldan could land a straight right, then come back with an overhand looping right. After getting hit by the first, the overhand right was difficult to defend against because instinct would have you expecting another straight right from the shoulder. The over hand right came a few inches higher and if you noticed, Kinchen couldn't block it or get out of the way. Roldan did the same thing to the 'animal' Fletcher, but with even greater success. After getting hit with the 1st straight right, you had no expectation that a follow up right would come from a higher angle, thus making every guy vulnerable to it. Also, Roldan had an extra thick chest and shoulders but he was much more flexible then is typical with that type of upper body. That's another unexpected offensive tool that caught opponents off guard. You couldn't easily move away from him, not even to one side or another, because he could twist his upper body to get off a good shot as the opponent tried to slip away. They never expected to be hit because it's not often that a fighter can get off a strong punch in that situation. Roldan could also land a strong left hook basically flat footed. Normally a strong hook requires a a step forward to get power into it, or a short left hook can be effective when at very close range. If a left hook requires a strong step forward to be effective, you open yourself up to a strong right counter but if you can throw it flat footed, there is no wide opening to return fire. The ability to land a strong hook from range is a great weapon that most guys don't have. Roldan also seemed to have good stamina for a guy that threw so many power shots right from the start. He hit Fletcher in their fight with strong right hands round after round, barely slowing even in the 8th round after landing numerous hard shots until then. Roldan looked slightly less effective here then he was against the 'animal' Fletcher, but he was 3 years older in this fight and he fought 9 of 11 fights in this comeback effort at light heavyweight. That's very unusual, going up to 175 after a 3 year retirement, yet still coming down to 160 to perform as well as he did here.

MrMarco855 such a great write up here on the Hammer Roldan. Dam! He was such a good solid and awkward fighter. You could throw Roldan into any boxing middleweight era and he would always cause a lot o havock. I was a big fan of his and despite his knock downs against Thomas Hearns he had tommy in a lot of trouble before Tommy knocked him out. He clipped Tommy good in the 4th round and nearly had him out. Would have loved to have seen Juan Roldan in there with a Nigel Benn,Iran Barkley and John The Beast Mugarbi. Could you imagine them fights!!

Martillo era algo asi como el dogo Argentino de Lectoure,le tiraba con todo lo que tenia a quien tuviese al frente sin importarle lo que le pegasen.

El tenia mucho mas que muchos que fueron campeones, Quizas fue un poco de mala suerte y un poco de intereses. Si te das cuenta despues de esta pelea Roldan tenia todo el derecho de enfrentar a Hagler de nuevo despues de su pelea con Sugar y decidieron enfrentarlo mejor a Hearns primero, porque ya llevaban a Hearns contra Hagler. El debio haber dicho despues de esto si peleo con Hearns pero primero Hagler.

Roldan was worn out by then.

I saw this on closed circuitI really thought Kinchen would win this. He seemed very drained. I don't think he ever fought at 160 lbs again.

He fought Hearns at 166 lbs knock him down and almost won that fight

Yeah, 6 pounds may have made the difference. I saw this on closed circuit too, and thought Kinchen was strangely inactive. Top fighter Roldan though. I'm a huge Hagler fan, but I do wonder how that fight would have gone if the thumb hadn't happened. Would have been an even tougher fight for MMH
