Here is a video on the New Roland sp404 mk2 sequencer / Pattern Tutorial. In this sp404 beat making video, i show how i have been sequencing my sampled beats on this sp404mkii. I find that the sp404 mk2 pattern select sequencer to be very powerful for the price that it is at, it's not the best sequencer I have used when it comes to boom bap sampled based beats but it is very powerful. Here we go over adding some Hip Hop Boom Bap sounding drums to the sequencer then we add our chopped samples on the sp 404mk2 to the pattern sequencer.

Deleting pads from a pattern used to be annoying but they improved it a lot in the 1.14 firmware update. You can go to pattern edit, hold down DEL, tap the pads you want to clear, and press the enter button. WAY better now.

Does this delete the entire take in that sequence without having to hold down the pad till it loops around? If that’s the case I am so glad you stepped in to leave this on the comments because that is exactly what I was looking for lol, blessings to you and thank you for dropping by brother

@@malobeats Yeah exactly! You have to be in pattern edit mode, not while recording, but you can clear the pads you choose from the whole pattern without waiting/listening through a whole pass. Thanks for the great vids!

I'm a new SP user, and I've watched a LOT of videos. This is hands down the most useful video on the SP404MkII I've watched. YMMV, of course, but it's not just the explanations of the functions, it's how they work together that is shown in such great detail. Definitely will watch any SP content you share.

I'm running into a problem with my sample chops. After jamming a loop out a couple times it will play bits of other pads which I'm not currently pressing. Same issue when sequencing, it plays the chops smoothly 1 or 2 times but will randomly play other pads without me pressing them? It seems to be completely random, sometimes it will happen on the 3rd bar, sometimes on the 4th bar etc... Can't figure out why this is happening 😢

at around 11:45 when trying to delete the take, you can use undo (shift + pattern select)

Nice! Was watching this video as i struggle with quantise settings and just end up doing everything un quantised but i struggle not playing on the grid but i want really swung beats. Am i better off messing with the percentage of quantise or using the swing setting? I ended up learning on your video that you can record the 16 levels in pattern mode! I thought you had to resample the levels! I always just tried to be careful with the velocity of my hits!

Hey brother thank you so much for dropping by and taking the time to watch the video, and I would recommend just messing with the percentage of the quantization to get a better feel and groove since I feel like the shuffle feature is not as useful since I don’t hear much of a difference. And yes you are able to record the 16 level velocity mode in pattern mode which has been very useful since I’m always on the full level pad function and every now and then I will use the 16 level mode.

@@malobeats was one of most informative videos i've seen so far! I actually have managed to get good results since i sent that post. I resampled my hat pattern with 16 levels and added that to the sequencer. Kicks no quantise and snare i actually used shuffle + and - 50 and i could hear it before and after metronome a decent bit. When i used the percentage i couldnt work out what was going on lol but no matter my percent the snare was dead on the metronome :s the 16 level thing was game changer i wish i knew earlier haha! Just need to get that implemented in chromatic mode and we flying
