The Roland GR-55 is a revolution in guitar synthesis, with features never before available in any guitar processor. In terms of speed, it's the fastest ever. It's also the most accurate, thanks to newly developed pitch-detection technology. As for sound, the triple-core generator houses a world-class array of virtual guitars, basses, amps, and synth voices, enabling tones and textures that have never been heard before. Onstage or in the studio, you can instantly access the GR-55's huge library of ready-to-use sounds, from pop to rock and beyond, with quick-access category buttons. Welcome to a ground-breaking new era in guitar synthesis!

Thank you so much for the demo. Could you please tell me is there a specialised effects pedal that gives you the Stereo Scat effect here heard at 9:30 on your demo. Rather than the entire Synthesizer board. That would be brilliant as I play jazz as well and need that cool bebop scat vocalisation effect on my guitar playing. Thank you.

Great! curious about the nice Stereo Scat patch at 9:30, is panned pcm1/pcm2 two scat tones? or ping pong delay fx?

Excellent demonstration. My question is if you think the synthesizer sounds better with a guitar with metal strings, or nylon. As I am undecided if to buy a godin acs sa in nylon, or an electric godin xtsa. Thank you for your answer

I have a GR synth from 2005. I believe it worked fine in its heyday, plugged it in the other day and it's not working properly, or at least the way I remember. There is a delay between plucking a note and actually hearing it, which makes the unit useless if you're playing to a backing or in a band. Has anyone noticed this phenomenon?

  • @DIRT2021

I would love some clarification. It seems you mention using the magnetic pickups, and having the modeling features available. Does this mean the GR-55 does have functionality as a bit of a modeling/processor without the use of a midi pickup/signal ? I understand the synth functions wouldn't be functional with the midi. In other words....on a normal 1/4" electric guitar...can you still run thru this and get some 'effects' ? Thanks.

I would never use all the poly tones and wild synthesized sounds. But I do need it for individual tones like sax, fiddle, piano, banjo, etc. The problem is I can't find a good responsive "growling type sax" tone. The GR1 has it but does the gr55? I need a fiddle tone too. All I found in the grr55 was a mellow violin. that won't work for me. does this unit have these tones? Or can you create them in the unit? If so, how?

I'm thinking about purchasing the Roland GC-1 Guitar along with the GR-55. I have a great little 1 watt Yamaha HTR10x practice amp, but apparently you need to use neutral / monitor speakers with the GR-55 in order to achieve consistency with sound. I've heard some users having issues with patch creation...they create a patch with headphones on or through one speaker, and then go to their buddies house and all of the patches sound completely off. Can anyone recommend a solution for this? I don't need anything loud...My Yamaha guitar amp has really great sound when I play my ipod through it...yet I'm not sure it's sound is neutral enough to not effect the intended tone of the patch I'd be trying to create. Some say the iLoud blutooth speaker could work with the GR-55...has anyone tried? I'm completely confused on which route to take. I'd like consistency when practicing and when recording. Thanks for any input.

  • @caseyohearn7514

@ Del Rei -There is a switch on the GK3 pickup that lets you choose between GR55, both GR55 and guitar, and just guitar. There is a "Through" or guitar jack on the GR55, that needs to be sent to an amp or PA, the L and R (or synth sounds) need to be connected as well. I hope this helps!

First off...... I haven't played mine nearly enough, but I own this...I guess. What is the difference in the Black/Blue models? Where is the Scat Voices? Did you make that yourself? Can I download a patch that has those? Where? That is so cool! Can I use this with an acoustic amp? Or...Bad Idea? At church I have a Fender Mustang IV and a Marshall Acoustic Amp. Could I use both...or are the freq bad for acoustic amps? When I change (Channels?) on mine, the volumes are DRASTICALLY different from one to the next. I hate having a nice, pretty, lush sound....click to change and blow my ears off. How is that fixed?

I use loop pedals hooked up to my guitar in live situations, what interests me about this on top of the custom tuning, is the possibility of programming a drum kit to each string and creating a synth drum line, does anyone know if that is at all possible with this unit? currently i am just looping a kinda rhythmic line that definitly sounds like a guitar but as far as I can see there are no rhythmic samples on the unit. Secondly the tuning function does look amazing, ive been downtuning my guitar alot recently so that some of my songs are in an easier key from when i wrote them, but my tele is starting to sound a bit lame in the lower key, two whole tones beneath standard tuning, and a little like a sitar sometimes! Ideally i would like to tune the guitar to standard tuning and use this to downtune the guitar tones to that lower pitch without issues with the guitar strings ringing horribly, has anyone experimented doing this? Cheers guys, would appreciate any help :)

I do believe there is actually a rhythmic patch that comes with the GR-55 synthesizer. I understand that this comment is two years old so you may have found it by now. I used the patch to create a sort of Mike Oldfield Shabda rhythmic sound. Maybe it doesn't feel quite like the drums your looking for, but I know it has one.

Floydandsome But you also need to buy midi pick up and install it on every guitar you want to play with this device, and probably also external midi converter to send signal from pick up to GR-55, which to me isn`t convenient. Besides midi is not for getting hi gain low tuned sound. If it`s the only your purpose, you`d better get EHX pitch fork or Whammy Drop in addition to nice analog distortion. If you want to drop the lowest string individually then there are several things that are easily installed on bridge of your guitar and make it physically but very fast. good luck

This is a video for people who don't know the information you're complaining about receiving. All you needed to do is move on to find something that suits you perfectly. Your comment reminds me of the hilariously spoiled idiots on so many guitar lesson videos whining about the fact that the free lesson they should be saying "thank you" for providing to the person who was nice enough to post for everyone, is either too basic or too advanced for their particular level. You're all like little crying babies, except that you don't realize that your tears are of no interest to anyone, because you aren't a baby and the internet is not your momma's boobies, and that the world is full of people who have different needs than you; not everything you encounter is going to tickle your fancy; cry some more and see how much the videos change in response. 🙄🤪
