    I've owned the FP-30X for a few months. I've really been enjoying it. Love the sound of it, being able to plug it directly into a DAW, and the feel of the keys. I didn't know about lots of the other features as I haven't been able to spend too much time on it or reading the manual. Thanks for the comprehensive video. I'll definitely set up the 'save settings' in the memory bank. I think you are right that there are too many things that are not very intuitive, but overall, I am very pleased with my piano. It's in my office and makes me want to go to work :)

    I wanted to buy the FP-30X, but i didn't know about the FP-E50. This E50 is way more versatile and future-proof than the 30X, so now i'm going all in on E50. Thank you, great review.

    I had both FP10 (my first digital piano) and FP-30X. I also had Roland A88 mkII MIDI controller. In all the cases PHA-4 action developed clicking noise after 4-5 months of intensive playing. In general, most of the plastic key actions are noisy. By the way, I never played any other voice that acoustic piano on any of the digital pianos I had (8 all together) and obviously I did not ever layer any voices. I played classical music most of the time (currently learning solo jazz).

    I had my FP-30 for about 9 months and was lucky enough I never noticed any clicking noises, but I have heard from many people that this can be an issue with PHA4 (for a while it seemed it was a big problem with the FP-10).

    Its because of the grease inside the piano, you should be able to tilt it 90 degrees backwards and press the keys till its gone.

    Great review, very detailed, like it. Thank you for your hard job. I'm in the process of choosing a new piano.. tested a LOT, including Yamaha P45, P125(a), Casio CPD-S350/S1100/etc, Roland RD88/FP-10/FP-30x/FP-E50, Korg LP-380 and other models I don't fully remember.. What I can say.. Yamaha is a quite good. Well-balanced (not too light, not too heavy) key actions, good sound (not great not terrible), good user interface. I'm using Yamaha P45 for long. P125 sounds quite better, but still far from Roland. Casio is the worst one. Bad key actions (they are quite short, so if you press somewhere upper.. you feel this terrible feeling). Pure sound, like plastic strings. I'm not quite satisfied. And Roland.. this is amazing. The sound is great, they even handling resonanses.. (once you keep pressing any key and then trying to press the same note in octave upper or lower, you will see this resonance of previously pressed key!), Roland is the super TOP for me. Key actions - yes, they are kinda heavier than other ones, but they are longer, so it is quite easier to press somewhere upper (in between black keys), in other words, they are correctly weighted! About user interface of FP-30x completely agree, but for me the dynamic range and the sound quality is super critical, so I'm absolutely okay to have my tablet/phone on a desk. Korg is a quite great. Absolutely fantastic key actions, good user interface, built-in USB audio interface which allow me to connect my laptop and run high quality piano VSTi. However, built-in sound is just okay for me. But anyway, I just described my own preferences and feelings, you might have other ones, the only thing I can say - everyone must go to the shop/showroom and touch and play, you will definitely find your piano! :)

    Does bluetooth work to send audio to a smartphone, or only MIDI? Aka do you need a USB cable to send audio to a smartphone.

    Sending audio TO a phone is done with the USB cable (it has an audio interface built in - Roland finally catching up with Yamaha). There is no BlueTooth audio out. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

    I am choosing between FP-10 and FP-30X. The key differences for me are 96 vs 256 polyphony (which I probably cannot hear) and 1-pedal vs 3-pedals (which I probably never use). At the same time FP-30X costs 30% higher in my place. Even though I know that the features are probably useless for me, I am afraid to buy the cheaper one because this piano is probably going to be with me for many years (if not by the end of my life - I doubt I ever decide to buy another one, I am 40 and just learning the piano).

    The FP-30X is quite a bit more than the FP-10 (the FP-10 is great value). You get the same key action (which is the biggest advantage of the FP 10/30/60) and you get the same basic voices (only with less polyphony, but it's not a huge difference to the ears)>. If you are a beginner, the FP-10 as far as PLAYING goes will be TOTALLY fine for you. As far as features go, the FP-30X has 3 that the FP-10 does not (maybe you care maybe you don't) a) BlueTooth audio in This means you can connect an iPad with BlueTooth and listen to music/lessons/play along - hear your piano and iPad at the same time through piano speakers/headphones b) USB Audio In/Out This means you can connect an iPad or iPhone with a USB cable and do the same as in (a), but also can record audio direct to your iPad/phone (example: connect phone, film yourself playing and get high quality direct audio in your video instead of recording the speakers) c) Left/Right line outs These are better connections for playing live, connecting to speakers/PA - You prob dont care about this one. To be honest, if the 30X is 30% more? I would recommend the FP-10 - and if you want to do the things I mention in (a) and (b) - you can buy an external device later on ("mixer with built in audio interface") that will do those things with your FP-10 for anywhere from $40 to $100 for a cheap one. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

    @@PianoTone oh, thank you very much for such a detailed answer. I also tend to think FP-10 should be more than enough for me. I also watched your other videos and am going to find and check a couple of other brands (Casio, Yumaha) in local shops to make sure the Roland action is really something that I need (so far I compared it only to Alesis and Roland was way better, I fell in love to it). Your videos are super helpful. Subscribed. Thank you!!!

    I have the FP-10 and I'm a trained classical player (all my life on acoustic pianos) and now, for fun, play 1930s jazz classics. The piano is very nice. I personally like the action - very satisfying to play on - and I like the sounds (there are four pianos - all are good). I also have two Kawai pianos. Their ONE sound (SK-EX) is excellent - the others are all rubbish. Changing sounds (compared to the FP-30X) is really simple. Hold the function button and press the relevant key (they are all marked). The app is really good fun for learning students like yourself. It even keeps a diary of your practicing and, like a real teacher, 'nags' you when you haven't practiced! It also gives you access to a few more voices (like 'jazz scat' which is fun). The app also, as this review makes clear, allows you to clearly SEE what you are doing - especially important when setting the metronome for example. Two things you may want to get with your piano. The first, if it's in your lounge or somewhere 'visible' is the stand. It's not expensive, but just makes it more like a piece of furniture. The second is the Roland pedal. It really is very good and comes with a pad to stop it slipping on the floor. It also does half-pedaling, so you are learning the right techniques. Throw away the 'switch' that comes with the FP-10.

    @@robintyson591 I ended up with buying FP-30X. After a couple of weeks of playing I am clearly happy with the action - it is very intuitive and stable. When I play on my teacher's keyboard it sometimes sounds unexpectedly loud or silent. But the app is a complete disaster in my opinion. I am talking about Roland Piano App here. First of all it takes ages to open, because it is "connecting with the server". Even if all I need is the metronome - I still have to wait. Next Bluetooth connection: not only takes time to connect but also forgets the piano and sometimes drops just during the session. In the lessons (that I have tried) it is just too slow - the sound and the animation are desynchronized. Navigation is also a bit unintuitive - sometimes I press back to hide a panel and get to the main menu instead. I also tried Piano Partner 2 but it says it is not compatible with FP-30X (FP-30 is in the list, but no X version). So yeah, from the software perspective I am not satisfied at all.

    I just bought the FP60X because it was $995 on sale at Amazon and love it but I connected two (powered) Adam Audio studio monitors to the L-R output jacks and the volume is very low -- no louder than the internal speakers, which are not very loud. Is this normal? I have the speaker and keyboard volumes turned-up all the way. Very strange.

  • @PianoTone

    Wow that’s a good deal; I’ve never reviewed that one and I’m not familiar with those speakers - those outputs are line level so they are meant to be a clean non amplified signal - is there anything in the menu that allows you to adjust that level? @@PianoTone Oh I see. Thank you for the info. I will look in the manual to see - there is no dial on the back for the line-out level but there is a dial to adjust the microphone level. If not I will have to buy an amplifier.

    i bought this,i found the keys to be very heavy to the point that was unplayable for my taste.A week after i bought it ,i put it up for sale,the person who bought it asked me why i was selling a brand new digital piano,i explaiined about the keys,and after he checked the piano at my house he bought it,i lost about ahundred and fifty dollars that i had to discount .I still got most of my money back fortunately and i bought a Casio Px-S 1000 and im very happy with it.

    I own the FP60x and I love the piano, but can’t actually recommend Roland pianos due to the app being so terrible and the fact that rhythms and accompaniments are only accessible through the app. Additionally, I feel the rhythms and accompaniments are not that good. The PSR E373 easily beats my FP60x in this area. Roland just released a new competitor to the DGX-670, the E50. It looks interesting and could provide remedies to Roland’s terrible app by providing access to all features directly on the piano.

    Yeah I mention that new piano at the end of the review, it looks pretty amazing! I don’t know anything about the Zencore sound engine though, but for cheaper than the 60X with those features and that user interface? Seems awesome. How do you like the mic input on the 60X btw? Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe

  • @BensMusicDojo

    @BensMusicDojo

    The mic input was a big reason why I went for the FP60x and has been a great feature. It sounds good, and the built in mic effects are really good too. Another drawback though are the speakers. They are more powerful than the 30x but still underwhelming. If playing with other musicians, additional amplification is required. That said, I wish I would have spent a little more for the P515. For now, there’s a lot to like about the FP60x. I plan on enjoying it for a hopefully some years and upgrading to the latest generation when that time comes. The E50 is approaching what I would want, but I want a premium action and a premium speaker system.

  • @PianoTone

    @PianoTone

    Thanks good to know all that! The store I rent from is also starting to rent P515’s so that’s on the review list as well; the action is super heavy but the speakers did sound pretty fantastic in the store. You pay for that in weight though it’s almost as heavy as my DGX 670 at 50 lbs

    Ha ha, got to agree with you about the user interface, it is absolutely terrible - You really need to use it in conjunction with the Android / Apple phone App. Otherwise you are totally blind. Using the Phone App makes it so much better, shame though that it is such a terrible stand alone interface. Then, if you do not use the phone App. you do not have acess to accompianmwnt, percussion etc. One other thing I moan about is the terrible "Built in Songs" Why would anyone ever use this garbage? - Speaking of garbage, the manual looks like it was put together by someone on LSD, it is all over the place and follows no logical structure.

    LOL on the manual and built in songs I totally agree. With the new Roland FP-E50 out I'm not sure Roland will sell many more FP-30X or FP-60X; the E50 is 10x better in my opinion. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
