Solid unit. I've owned one for over a year and it's pretty solid. 1 big issue that I am dealing with (seems that a few other 505 owners have the same issue) is a Track Freeze on a playing deck, where you are unable to play a track. The only way to solve the issue is to restart the unit, but Mid-event it can be an issue. I know there was a firmware upgrade that solved an issue with the Mic/Sampler. Other than that, I wish it had the jobs that the Pioneer SR2 has. I still love it regardless. Packs a punch for a smaller unit. Great review P-Dot.

I am really thinking about getting one of these but after reading about some bad reviews about one of the decks not working and the performance pads being too small,I am looking for someone to encourage me to go for it. I am really hoping I get motivated enough to get a unit that will last me a long time.

All we can report is that we've not heard any consistent issues being reported, and our review unit has continued to perform just fine!

I was really thrilled by the 505 last year, but after return 3 of them with issues with the touchplate on the jogs, I went to Pioneer.

@@digitaldjtips the touch didn't register the lift-off from my hand therefor the deck stopped playing (and yes I tryed the obvious solutions - whipe them clean, reboot) Never had any issues with the DDJ-RR I bought instead, though I miss the extra features the 505 would have provided. (Also the support of Pioneer is way superior to the email only support of Roland.)

There is 13 performance pad modes actually! Each button has a second press as well as shift+press. So each button has 3 modes. The roll/slicer has 4 modes to incorporate slicer loop. (Shift+ press twice)

I am able to connect this to an Apple Mac and is there some kind of app that works with it? Can I load tracks via my computer rather than using the cd?

Yes you can easily connect this to a Mac, it works with Serato

I was going to buy a Pioneer DDJ 800 but I like this one better

Hey man nice review, please keep ‘em coming! BTW is that Stevie Wonders’ album “Songs in the Key of Life” I can spot there? Such a good album... especially the song “Black Man” I love that song... so funky!

I heard the microphone sound quality sucks on these units. I also have friends who told me their play buttons got stuck smh

Had this fault with my unit. Had to send it to Roland for a fix where they replace the board and platters.

That's a tough one! Ignoring the idea of "best" for a second (highly subjective) if I was going to buy one I probably go for the DDJ-SR2
