Great tip! My volume button got stuck and was ready to crack it open. Shaking the remote loosened up whatever debris was in there

Fixed! Posted the below, but following another video’s advice, simply unplugged the power source from the Roku box. After power up, the Roku is again functioning as it should! Regardless, thank you for your advice! Previously posted 5 mins ago: Since this “how to” is 3 years old, just wondering If you have an updated version for a rechargeable Roku remote? Even though I cannot remove batteries, I attempted this, just kept shutting off the TV when it powered on 😅. However, it didn’t work. After over a year of seamless working, my Roku remote began “skipping” when I’m in guide channel searching, and while attempting other similar features. As some have suggested, I have removed the batteries from other remotes, turned off all lights, to no avail. I also used canned air on the remote to dislodge anything that may have entered the remote crevices. The TV and Roku/remote are updated. This situation is frustrating to say the least!

@worldoftech - I bought a roku streaming stick from target in NYC abut 5 months ago - worked flawlessly until one day remote became unpaired (I have remote model RC-EL1 - the model with the pairing button and pairing light both in the battery compartment , no pairing light on front of remote like in your video ) I emailed roku support and they sent me two separate RC -EL1 replacements which both had the same issue - I tired multiple new aaa batteries , tried connecting to both of my TVs in bedroom and living room to see if it had something to do witb my TVs). Then, roku tried to tell me that unless their “free hdmi extender would not work , then we don’t know what to tell you “ . They sent me this hdmi extender and alas , the issue remains with all the replacement remotes considering they all do not work at all or show any sign of life even witb multiple new batteries ) . Any suggestions ? I’m starting to go crazy I bought this 4 months ago as an upgrade and haven’t been able to enjoy it and all roku keeps telling me is that they can send me the same model replacement remote , or too bad. Have you had any lucky with this scenario?

this actually worked. i was doing it thinking. this is nuts... i had to jam on the buttons. then more. I actually let the remote dry out first without the batteries beside a window that got a lot of sun. i went all hamming on the buttons more after a couple days in said window/sun. i did the smacking on my hand randomly in midst of all mentioned. just put the batteries back and the green light said YES! i will be yours again. i will do my job.

HOLY CRAP 💩 This friggin worked! I also looked more closely at the battery case and noticed tiny oxidation/corrosion on the spring (negative connection). I cleaned that off too and then VOILA!!!! Thank you brutha and shout out from Richmond, VA! 👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽

Yes it worked! Not sure of the mechanism, because the problem occurred when the remote fell on the floor and probably pushed unknown buttons.

It didn’t work for me, I tried multiple times but nothing worked so I went to another remote in the house and swapped batteries with it and now both remotes work perfectly well.

I thought you were messing with us, especially when it didn’t work first time, second the charm!

So bottom line is buttons are sticking or there is crud in there causing issues. Blow it out with air compressor or do this. Either should help if you get lucky and knock the crud loose.

Funciono perfecto!

I had to power reset the Roku stick, then hold the reset button in on the back of the remote after removing and reseating the batteries. We had nothing stuck in the buttons. This video may help others who don’t clean their remotes.

My right arrow button won’t work. That’s it. Every other button works fine except this button. I don’t know if it’s the remote or the TV. Few mos ago I got a new Roku Device/Remote. That one sucked. I’d have to press the buttons like 20 times to get it to do anything. Then suddenly the power button wouldn’t work. I had to press the button on the Tv to get it on/off. I don’t understand what’s wrong. Is my Tv not letting remote connect. Do I need new batteries for my remote? Why is this issue popping up after 3mos?
