    Great review I know this is quite old now but when I got my Roksan I tested with Lintons Conceot 30s silver 50s Kef Meta Kef R3 but it was the B&W 706 S2 that blew me away the R3 were close followed by Lintons but Lintons were warm kind of old school sounding. I just don’t have room for floor standing yet. Just pulled the trigger on the turntable and eyeing up the CD transport so I can play all my old stuff from the 80s

    I’m after a new amp and am currently looking at the Roksan Attessa streaming amp or the Hegel H95. I can’t find anywhere near me which stocks both for a side by side demo so I’m trying to do as much research as I can before travelling. How would you compare these two amps? I’m currently using Monitor Audio Bronze 6 speakers and my sources are streaming Apple Music via Airplay, and vinyl from a Project Debut Carbon Esprit with a Cambridge Audio phono stage. I’d also incorporate these into a home theatre using the HT bypass feature. I prefer a bold, exciting and detailed sound with lots of mid range presence. I’d possibly even stretch to the Hegel H120 if the improvement is worth it. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

  • @living_entertainment

    @living_entertainment

    If your rocking the bronze series and your looking for a slight midrange bump I would recommend the Attessa over the H95. Hegel's sound is pretty linear, very transparent, and accurate, the Attessa (while I wouldn't call it a warm amp) has more of a fast rock and roll sound, especially when paired up with Monitor Audio. I can't say I have tried the Cambridge phono stage but Pro-Jects muscular sound pairs really nicely with Roksans sense of PRAT as well. Should be a killer combo!

A week ago I got the Audiolab 6000CDT and it was excellent, so i decided to pair it with something better than the Onkyo, at this moment i'm keeping the Onkyo. Even think is not better than other amps i had, like the Yamaha R-S300, the Onkyo TX-L50 and the Tonewin MC-100B, all of them at 1/4 the price. I'll give it a try sometime, maybe i have to setup better, or maybe in fact there are very good stuff in the market for much less money.

    Today I made some adjustments, replace some cables, change my listening position and I have much better experience. For acoustic, bossa nova and voice related music works very well with the Audiolab 6000CDT, very precise and pleasent. For rock instead I have better results with the Advance Acoustics MCD203 tube CD Player through analog connection, it give the additional body missing with the 6000CDT, even with Blink 182's Dude Ranch distorted punk sounds very decent. I have the MA Bronze 2, and always find that these speakers works better on high volume, maybe I will change them for the Lintons which listeneded some weeks ago and loved how well they perform on low volume listening. My final thought is that with the Roksan I have a better platform to improve my system than the Onkyo. The thing that I loved most was the DAC, I plugged a bunch of other Advance Acoustics CDP that have stored and they sounds excellent, the bluetooth streaming also sounds very good. One issue I cannot solve is the connection to my SW, which have a mono Low Level Input, usually connecting the right channel of the pre/sub output to this inputs must work, but this is not the case, the input lacks of power enough to the SW. I have to wait until monday to ask the seller.

    @@EspanholCarioca Lintons are one of the best speakers I ever heard, I just love them. Some months ago listened paired with a Leak 130 and it was just beautiful even at low volumes. But for the Attessa I think the Lintons don't make the cut. The only speakers was able to match with the Attessa were the Monitor Audio Gold 300, and the experience was incredible, then realize why this amp is so expensive. But the Golds cost 3X the Lintons in my country. At this time I can tell you, if you like acoustic, classic or vocal music with "mathematical" precision, go for the Attessa, but if you like rock music, look for something else with tone control. If Roksan put tone control on the Attessa could be the best amplifier under USD$10.000.

    The Lintons sound decent on the Attessa but to our ear's they didn't sound as good as we had hoped given their performance on other amplifiers. The synergy just isn't there. • @HerrFinsternis

    Yes I can (partially) attest to that. A friend of mine has the Roksan K3 and silver 300 (6G) and they are terrific together. I myself have the BR2 ran by a rotel RA10, which is hit and miss. My own setup is great with jazz, as is the K3+S300 setup which does it way better (and it should, costing almost five times as much). It is fine with remastered classic rock albums, not so much with the original ones. On a sidenote: I also notice big difference between certain record labels. Every EMI record I have on vinyl sounds flat and terrible, every Harvest record I have on vinyl sounds as different to those EMI records as the EMI remasters on cd to those originals (I rebought a lot of my cd-collections on vinyl). I think this is because both the amps and MA speakers dig out a lot of information and give it to you straight, warts and all. My setup does if far less refined then my friends, but I feel like both setups share the same pitfall (if you may call it that), they don't smooth things over. Having said that, if your sourcematerial is good a Roksan+MA equals gold. The S200 would do well too but you said you missed bass in your BR2. I you miss it there you will probably miss it in the S200 as well, the S300 does so much better in that regard. Allways controlled though, so you should also consider what kind of bass you want. I personally like the way the S300 handles it, but if you want a deep booming slow bass you will not find it here. edit: wait I didn't notice the 11x11 foot room. I am a bit surprised you found the BR2's lacking in lower end. Maybe play around a bit with their positioning?

    A footnote to this predicament is that I originally purchased the A11 Tribute, but found myself cranking the bass up to +7. So I returned the A11 and replaced it with the Attessa at twice the pry and twice the output. But still missing a little bottom end….

  • @HerrFinsternis

    @HerrFinsternis

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@flippeddisc8289 I doubt the S100 will solve that problem for you, but I wondering whether a NAD or Arcam amp will. For the price of the Roksan you get an Arcam sa20, which is musical, has a warm presentation and puts some balls on that bottom-end. Could be just what this old BR2 needs. It also has type G amplification, meaning it runs in type A on lower volumes, which is awesome in a smaller room. I do say it's an expensive way to try and fix entry level speakers. On a final note, you might come to the conclusion MA is not your kind if speaker. This brand has a strong emphasis on an open top-end. If so, no amp will fix that. Edit: on a second final note, people like that rotel A11 with the Linton's. Mine are coming in this weekend, and I will run them with the rotel RA10. I might get a new amp, might not if I like this. If you want I can give an update in that, comparing it with my BR2's

    If you have a pair of Lintons the Audiolab 6000A, Leak Stereo 130, and PrimaLuna Evo 200 are all excellent pairings.

    In terms of functionality, BluOS is far superior to PlayFi. In our experience, it doesn't pair as easily as the Audiolab. The sound itself isn't so much a matter of what's better or worse as a personal taste thing to us. The Audiolab in our experience has better, tighter bass, the Attessa has fantastic PRAT making it more engaging in a lot of respects. A lot of it comes down to speaker pairings, if you have the Golds the Attessa is a far, far, FAR better match. The gold series is strangely the one speaker range I have tried so far that I have not enjoyed on the Audiolab.

    @@living_entertainment hi thanks for the review, I’m going to listen to the Attessa streaming amp next week. Do you think it might work well with Qacoustics 3050i speakers ? Or I’ve got some older Focal chorus floorstanding speakers I could try, or possibly dynaudio emit m20 bookshelf speakers? Thanks

    @@MrJonnyboy43 We aren't a QAcoustics distrubuter so hard to say. We have tried Roksan with Dynaudio in the past and never had much luck with the combination, on paper they always seemed like they should work together but we have always found the pairings sound rather dull. Focal could be a good pick though based on their qualities. Let us know how you go!
