What's really a kick in the heart is that in can be interpreted that the "clover" that he's known since his youth can be everyone (X, Iris, Ciel) Zero has known since his "awakening"...that is, when he stopped being maverick when he first understood the sense of justice with X, when he first understood human feelings with his first love in that lifetime with Iris, and his new friend/love, Ciel; It doesn't have to be anyone in particular, but so long as he has that "clover in his pocket" which is that person by his side, he can face anything and will fight for the future to see it all through.

I've seen a few comments arguing about specific people, but this one really sums it all up.

Zero mentions three things in this song that people also mentioned so far. He talks about a Flower, a Clover, and the Sky. The flower is probably Iris, which is a type of flower. he mentions he can't remember its name, he feels he's broken into fragments, and that his heart is running dry. Those are feelings he has because of that flower. He also mentions that the Blooming Clover can't understand this (feeling). The Clover is X, constantly evolving, becoming stronger but never actually went through developing feelings of love towards anyone else so he didn't understand the pain Zero had for losing Iris. Finally, Zero mentions you should Embrace someone if you're not going to chase your dreams. I think this like is also about Iris: He embraces her after she dies because he can't follow the dream of being with her anymore. Finally, he mentions that as long as he looks to the sky in front of him, the path towards the future will never fade away. This line is probably mentions his desire at the start of the second game of following Ciel again, that the future he must follow is with her. It's a very well-written song, and I love it. The people who noticed all the references to X, Iris, and Ciel have such big brains, I love it.

It also makes sense that the song's title is therefore 'Clover', as ZERO2 is the game in which X finally meets his end. It's effectively both Zero realizing the things he's lost in the wake of losing the last friend he had from a long-forgotten age, as well as looking towards the new future ahead.

People say the Clover is Ciel, but I don’t think it is. The song says he’s had the clover since his youth and it’s from some day long past tucked in his pocket. It sounds like he means X. I don’t see why he’d say he’s known Ciel since his youth. He hasn’t seen X in a long time at this point, and the clover tucked in his pocket means he’s carrying on X’s legacy. The part about the clover not understanding his feelings represents X still. Yes, Ciel wouldn’t understand, but think about it. Zero had a close bond with Iris, and he most likely had romantic feelings for her. X never had this with anyone. This song is about the X series and Zero carrying on the memory of the friend he made a promise too and Iris, his forgotten love.

It really is heartbreaking to see zero die after killing that scourge dr Weil... he was a vector for wily’s virus but his soul was pure... x was destroyed by his own compassion and zero finished the fight for him... zero was so powerful almost invincible. Not even all the humans on earth even armed could have stood against him or x. They could have easily have followed sigma but instead they protected the weak and the innocent. They may have been machines but the were more compassionate than most humans... which made them true heroes, even more than there nearly invincible bodies...

This series really shows how his character developed all the way back from X1, and despite his looks, most of the time he sounds like an ancient old man, who really doesn't have anything left, who's come to terms with who he is, what he's done in life and what will he do till the day he dies. By the time he boards Ragnarok he probably already knows what kind of shitshow he caused for centuries - all this is almost entirely on his hands, but he doesn't really care. He is aware, but he's also aware that all he can do about it is fight his way out for others to make peace. This is admirable, yet a bit tragic - he holds great value for others' lives, ideals and feelings, like he always did, but by the end of the series he still prefers to remain unnoticed - it seems like he completely disregards his own life, but in a more fatalistic way, while trading it away for the good of others. He'll die sooner or later, but he'd pretty much die fighting for X, Ciel and the Resistance, ensuring true peace between humans and reploids.

Adding to that, I've noticed that after the events of X4, Zero became less and less cocky and more and more like a samurai who doesn't care if his life is lost, as long as the mission was completed, the objective fulfilled, the threat eliminated. (Just as Wily intended for him originally - a machine purely meant to proceed forward and fulfill objectives, which would exceed his rebellious creation Bass, with none of those pesky issues posed by the development of a strong ego.) It's a pity, really: Zero never asked for this. Never asked to be created a weapon, created a threat to the world, or even just created - and yet he took upon the responsibility for the circumstances his creation and existence created, until his final battle.

The flower is iris, the clover is X, the sky is ciel.

Iris is a kind of flower, Ciel means 'sky' and the letter 'X' kind of looks like a four leaf clover. Thematically they all make sense too. Iris, the forgotten past that makes him feel hollow, X, the friend he's had since his earliest days but unable to understand the sensation of losing someone you deeply loved, and Ciel is someone he can currently look to, a person who shows him a path to a bright future.

@@neo7538 Zero/ZX is special in regards to them being the most story focused games taking place in the main timeline. There's an argument to be made for Legends, but that's so far removed that it might as well be it's own thing entirely. The story in Zero/ZX is practically begging to be animated.

@@neo7538 That doesn't really matter when it comes to making an anime. Sometimes manga exists for a while before it becomes an anime too. The Jojo anime for example; It didn't properly get made until 2012 even though Jojo isn't anything new in the slightest. The manga first came out in the late 80's. The most recently animated part was Golden Wind, which was released in manga form in the mid 90's. Zero/ZX is also relevant again because of the recent collection that ported the games to modern systems. It would actually be really fitting for them to come out with an anime sometime soon, since the games have been introduced to a whole new generation.

@@Crow_Rising Bro believe me, the Megaman Zero manga is *not* what you want animated. It has little or even nothing to do with the games, and tries to make Zero some kind of sidekick.

It's funny how in Megaman X, X gets new weapon while Zero just "unlocks" moves as if he already has them. He just "forget".

When you think about it, it makes sense. Zero was created by Wily as the final superior robot master. His Magnum Opus that can replicate and utilize any weapon and any ability at his disposal. The counter to Dr. Light's hyper intellectual robot that was X.

The lyrics of this song, it feels like Zero was able to discover a part of his lost memory, and recalls a love he had from 100 years ago. But it's been so long, and he's since moved past that love, that he can no longer remember his love's name. Instead of dwelling on it, he's moving on to the future with the young clover by his side that he stays silent to; it's far too young to understand his complicated feelings. Additionally, clovers (especially four leaf ones) are believed to be good luck charms, so he'll keep the young clover by his side for good luck. If one reads between the lines, the young clover is Ciel. And his old love, that's Iris!

I always interpreted it as Zero being the clover and Ciel being the Freesia because in the lyrics he claims he sees pure white flowers swaying in the wind, Freesia are usually white in color. (I originally thought the clover was X) Now that I think about it there is a lot flower symbolism with Zero, when he says he can no longer remember the flower from his past anymore he's talking about Iris (Iris are a type of flower as well) but now I'm just rambling lol.

Actually no. The complete works state he recovers his memories fully after Z3. As for the clover, yes that’s Ciel. But the problem is he sees her as a daughter/close friend more than a lover. He knows he either has to die or go back to sleep once he helps Ciel obtain the world she wants to create. He’d rather not become infatuated.

I saw this video in my suggested and decided to watch. Once I started, I felt a strange wave of peace. But like the kind of bittersweet peace you might have when you've finished a book you were deeply invested in, or when an old friend is leaving for home after visiting. I'm not sure how else to describe it, but that's how I feel at the moment. I dunno what y'all will do with this new information, but there it is.

Yep, gonna have to say this song is about X and his dreams. Everyone likes to bring it back to Ciel, but we gotta remember that this is the beginning theme to Zero 2. He was just reunited with X, and more relevantly, Zero and Ciel barely know each other at that point.

As the year of 2020 is coming to a close, I'll be going back to play the zero series as I did long ago (in my teen years). And, listening to this song to end on a good note.

The peak of the mega man franchise for me was Zero 1-4 due to the lore and story and it ending the classic and x series and then ending itself with ZX continuing the new age

This bring so much nostalgia

2 years ago I decided to try mega man zero and today it is one of my favorite games especially for its soundtrack and especially this song.

The clover actually isn't Ciel, but X. Someone whose been with Zero since he was young, but couldn't fully understand Zero's inner plight of losing one's love and bearing the guilt of knowing that Zero's very existence has brought so many tragedies to the world. The "Clover is still tucked away in his breast pocket" definitely mean that X and their memories are still close to his heart. The Faded Flower who Zero can't even remember the name anymore is Iris. Ciel is the Sky (Ciel is the French for Sky, as the motif names of Resistance Reploids are all named after Birds, making Ciel the Sky the Birds fly to) whom Zero see as the Bright Future ahead.

Ben Landry it’s the synthesizer twinkling sounds. They’re used a lot in Digimon. Kouji Wada also liked to pair them with guitars, which are low and gently grinding in this song as well. It makes perfect sense that this is similar or evocative of Digimon.

this story reminds me so much of Inuyasha and Kikyo

Now that I think about it, the Zero series kinda seems reminiscent of Kamen Rider Decade. Anyone making that connection?
