Rogues’ gallery that sent India-Canada ties in tailspin & votebank politics ensuring Trudeau support

#canada #nijjar
The India-Canada relationship is in a tailspin over an issue that has been a sore point in ties since the 1980s - the freedom with which Sikh radicals operate in Canada. In Ep 1312 of Cut The Clutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta looks at the politics of Justin Trudeau’s refusal to act against Sikh radicals, how another Trudeau’s decision to ignore India’s concerns resulted in tragedy, and how Canada once came close to correcting course but stopped short.
Correction: At 11:13: NDP was founded by Tommy Douglas & is being led by Jagmeet Singh now.

I am a Ex-Canadian Soldier. I am half way through your presentation. I thank you for your "Measured" patient approach. Your point of view has great value. As a Common Citizen allow me to offer a sincere apology at the uncomfortable place in our relations today. What I can say is Mr. Trudeau has lost the trust and respect of the Majority of Canadians. We as a people want him out of office. Mr. Pierre Poilievre will be our next Priminister. He will be a much better, reasonable leader to stop any support for Khalastani Terrorism.

Thanks Trudeau for Uniting India. India badly needed a proper enemy after Pakistan died of political and economic Rabies.

“Sikh extremism, separatism and militancy were a problem in India more than two decades ago. Today, Punjab is at peace and there is growth and prosperity. There are, however, some elements outside India, including in Canada, who try to keep this issue alive for their own purposes. In many cases, such elements have links to or are themselves wedded to terrorism”.

One thing I have noticed on Canadian media is that there is a coterie of Sikh academics who are sympathetic to Khalistan who are asked to comment on all this. You can see clearly that there is an ecosystem of Khalistani sympathisers who are interviewed as experts and the picture they paint for ordinary Canadians is India's oppression of Sikhs. This also amplifies the political power of Khalistanis.

As a Canadian of Indian origin living in Canada for past 40 years, I live in fear for my personal safety in Canada from these Canadian Khalistani terrorists and extremists. I had one Khalistani approach me aggressively when I was driving by and I truly feared for my safety then. Religious places are attacked and vandalized, Indian diplomats are harassed and threatened in Canada by this group. Air India bombing from Canada which killed over 300 Canadian citizens was carried out by this group and these people were not held accountable because evidences was tampered or went missing. These Khalistan’s are terrorizing other Canadians of Indian origins in Canada and yet the Canadian government is silent. Why the double standards? I pay taxes, have not committed any crimes in ANY countries and yet my personal safety do not matter in the name of “free speech?” 40 years I voted for Liberals in Canada, no more. I will vote for the Green Party or an independent candidate going forward. Top three parties - Liberal, PC and NDP have not condemned anti-India activities in Canada. All three will not comment publicly because they will loose votes from a large Punjabi Sikh separatist, specially in BC province where there is huge concentration of separatist. Sad part is that we will loose out on trade with India.

What ever Canada has to show as evidence India should give the same reply they gave us, "your evidence doesn't meet our legal standards".

Let us remember that Trudeau 'volunteered' his comments during the farmer's protest. No one had actually asked him any question about it. This shows he was politically motivated to take such actions.

Canada is now new Pakistan from Indian perspective. Due to vote bank politics they will not help to improve ties with India.

Thanks Shekharji for exposing Canada as a safe haven of dangerous unsavory characters . It is very revealing, shocking and disturbing that a so called developed G7 country is behaving like this !

Had JT been the PM in 1985, then he would perhaps declare in the parliament that " few Canadians invoked and excerised the right to freedom and safely sent 300 plus humans including 200 Canadians among others to Heaven, without provoking Son of Hod"?!

Khalistan for whom? None of these "Khalsa" fighter will leave their cozy lives in Canada and return to a landlocked paddock. Today, Punjab is hotbed of Christian missionary activities. The drug menace is far from settled. Amritpal turned out to be an air balloon. Khalistanis have already lost.

The abysmal depth to which Canadian politics have sunk in the last few years is astonishing. Trudeau has his political compulsions, as Shekar rightly pointed out. With a dwindling economy and a few support among nationalist, Trudeau had to resort to such a diplomatic fiasco.

I think it's best to let Canadian Indian relationship to breakdown completely. Unless canada can prove it's willing to work it's actually better for Indian security to treat canada as a threat.
