Rogue, Oaf, and Fool at the Texas Renaissance Festival
For 7 years, Rogue, Oaf, and Fool was one of the premier shows on the Renaissance Faire circuit, appearing at shows around the country. It was a show that featured whip-cracking, sword-fighting, knife-throwing, juggling, and sketch comedy. It was also my father's show (he's the one with the moustache), and to my knowledge, there are no videos of it floating around on the internet. So when I went home for the holidays, I asked my dad if he'd be okay with me posting it for posterity's sake. Long-time fans of my show may notice a few points of inspiration that have made it into my show as well.

The Rogue, Jerome, was my brother, who has gone to his reward now. Thank you so very much for posting this. I haven't seen the act since I was around 14, and long ago lost the one VHS tape with the show on it. Being able to once again enjoy these three men is impossible to put into words. Thank you.

I see this was in Houston. I clearly remember seeing these awesome guys when I was a kid at Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie, Texas. Gems each one of these fine men! How wonderful that this was your brother. ♥️♥️

I really was enjoying this so much. I have an ache in my stomach for your loss, my condolences 😪
It's amazing to think how many performances have been effectively lost to time simply because no one has bothered to archive them online. Thanks so much for sharing this piece of history!

0000s-90s online didn't exist. In the later 90s storage space 'online' was expensive and scarce. There was no 'cloud' if a server crashed your saved stuff wasn't saved anymore. 😢
Dad was the OG of cracking whips and jokes!🤣😂🤣✌️
Seeing this makes the video of him participating in Jack's act that much more delightful. The same enthusiasm, timing, and talent are there. And the stache.
Ah yes, the good old "why is it that a whip will crack" 😁
Any chance you’d interview your dad, would be cool to see his thoughts on your take of his act.
This is a joy to watch. Thanks to you and your dad for keeping this alive.
So refreshing to see a performance without folks holding up a cell phone and blocking people behind. What a cool performance, thank you for sharing!

That is so annoying. I've been to weddings where all the under 30 people were doing that during the ceremony.
I see where you get your amazing looks, spectacular talent, and your hilarious humor. Your dad should be so proud of you and you of him. I hope this art form is never lost.
I love that the 'stache and joyful enthusiasm have stayed around for so long!! Thanks for posting this!!
Proof of the apple not falling far from the tree in the best way. The son has learned well from his father 😍. This was a great show they put on, thanks for sharing this with the world and spreading the joy they/you bring performing these shows. I never knew what I was missing all these years. 🥰
Carrying on the traditions and keeping the charisma is becoming more unheard of. This is an awesome piece of family history. Thank you for sharing.
All three amazingly talented; the Oaf was the biggest delight 😄 (They looked a bit like they’d stepped out of Asterix & Obelix 😆)

I haven't heard those names in ages!! I used to read some of their comics and watch their cartoons in either Dutch or German as a kid. They were hilarious!! The description totally fits!!😍😍
We travel to the Texas Renaissance Festival every year with the same group and it is always the highlight of my year. Its so cool to see footage from that era. Huzzah!
Fantastic! I had the pleasure of watching your dad in this show back in the 80's. Loved every second of it. Thank him on my behalf for all the joy and laughs. "WAIT...the glove!"
when you can't exactly tell if he missed it on purpose or accidently, you got an excellent performer.
That is the way the old circuses were done. Handed down from generation to generation. Great job. Thank you.
Wow that's amazing 🤩 great to see older shows and the tricks your dad used to do really puts into perspective of how it's developed over time OMG THAT LAST TRICK THOUGH 😵😵😵😰😰😰😰🤯🤯🤯🤯😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

I was wondering why the watermelon was on stage.
Please thank your father for letting you put up this footage, it was such a treat!! One can really see where you learned your showmanship from. If I'm doing the math correctly, this was 1984 so before you were born. Does the gypsy blood go back further than this in your family? Enquiring minds want to know.😉 That you carry on this form of traditional performance art is an amazing tribute to not only the craft, but also to your dad, and so many of us who have (maybe recently) found your content really appreciate the years upon years of work that you've put into your art. This was awesome to watch, please see if he has any other video gems gathering dust on a shelf that he might let you share with us.

I had been living in Boston for three years when, in 1982, I went to the King Richard's Faire in Carver, MA, to play trumpet with a brass quartet. We'd been hired to play Renaissance music...no one told me about the tights we would be given and required to wear, but $35 went a long way then, and a professional music gig just might get me into the Boston Symphony eventually (that didn't quite happen but I did play for two Mr. Roger's Neighborhood live kiddie shows in Symphony Hall a few years later). Seeing The Brothers Rogue Oaf and Fool do their thing was an experience never to be forgotten!...and now I remember that Oaf gave me a business card that I had for years...well, what do you know, here it is! I will get it scanned (all I own is a flip phone) and post it here next week. It reads like this: Comedy Combat The Bros. RogueOafanFool The laugh is mightier than the sword. David Casey penciled his name, address and phone from Revere Beach, MA. The card is plain, not much to look at - but it's from 1982!
man I love good old fashioned shows like this, the build ups and throw aways were magnificent
This would have been such a cool show to be able to see! I am so happy you shared this, it's great! Just so neat! Thank you :)
I have definitely not seen this show myself, but this still brings back memories of the 80s for me. The hair... the clothes! Good times
I've been a renny since the mid'90s and Faire is my happy place. I've been watching a lot of performers' content online of late to get through the winter doldrums and found Jacques in this way. This video of his dad reminds me of how I have always appreciated the blend of humor, music, and physicality found in so many Faire shows. (I mean, can we talk about that pratfall about ten minutes in?!) Thanks for all the smiles you've put on my face with this channel. 😊
Wow, your family is truly inspiring ❤️
This was absolutely hilarious!! Three stooges level! I was so pleasantly surprised ! These guys HAD IT Thank you for putting this online ♥️ You and your dad are amazing!!!
That was a thing of beauty and a joy to behold. Recordings of Ren performance from that era are so rare to come across, it is a precious treasure. Thank your father for allowing its posting.
That's amazing. I have never seen such shows before and I am really fascinated. That really really takes a lot of pratice and patience. Hats off to your dad and thank you for posting. Your videos were randomly suggested and i am glad that I chose to watched it.
I've been looking for video of this act for over 30 years, they were one of my favorites from the Colorado festival way back in the day. Thank you for this, so much!
You can tell which one is his dad without being told... what an absolute pleasure to watch. TY for sharing 💓
This kind of humor and showmanship is the absolute best. The natural just hilarious jokes with a little improv here and there. Both your and your dads show remind be a lot in style about one of my favourite Renn shows back at Kaltenberg oh probably over 5 years ago called Entre Act. Sadly there aren't many videos of their absolute hilarious shenanigans so I'm really glad you dug this out!
Texas Renaissance Festival - one of the best around
I would have loved to see this live, but was glad I was able to watch the video of it. Thanks for sharing! ❤
Loved all of it. The wind blowing the hair ahh. I'm from Texas and it was great to see this. All three performers are quite lovely and talented.
This is awesome! Glad your dad agreed to posting this. Too many of the great renfair acts have been lost to the ages.
Thank You. It the best Ren Fest show act ever.
Okay but the watermelon one is *insane* *He cut it clean through*
I feel like Oaf was giving major Red Skelton energy, like when he does Freddie the Freeloader combined with Klem Kadiddlehopper.
Can definitely see your dad’s influence on your work, Jacques!
Have you, Ses, and your dad considered performing at the Texas Renaissance Festival this year? Sadly, Clark "Smuj" Orwick has joined his partner Ded Bob in the afterlife, leaving a huge vacuum to fill, since without them the Ded Bob Show (a highlight of Texas Ren Fest every year) is no more.
Anyone else hit the like button before the video starts because you know it's finna be good
OmG it's your daddy!!! I see where you get the looks from now !
Your dad is so talented back then. You must be so proud of your dad like he is proud of you. You’re amazing Jack and you got some bit from his performance. Me and all of your fans are so proud of you from the time you was on American got talent. Well done Jack from coming so far.
“In, out, in, out… That feels pretty good.” 🤣
Thanks so much for sharing (and honoring) your father and his fellow performers. All three are gifted performers. By any chance, is your father still in contact with his former colleagues?
This is awesome, I love it I can see where you get your inspiration for you act from
If there's any more floating around anywhere, you should totally try to got them uploaded. Love history like this. Also, we need to see young Jacques!
Thank you so much for putting this up here, I used to watch shows similar any time they came by the the fairs and I have missed them. The show was great!
That was a great show! That was an awesome moustache!
Really priceless. I miss going to ren faires when I was young and now that I'm abroad, watching your channel has been very comforting. Much gratitude.
What amazing performers! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Loved the look back thank y'all so much for sharing.
I am allways impressed when a second generation follows its parents footsteps and becomes comapably talented in it. May it be music, sports or in this case whippin and entertaining. Thank you for that funny video!
I love these kinds of shows, only they don't happen in my neck of the woods. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing blast from the past!!!
This is awesome💗thank you for sharing!
This was a delight! I can see the inspiration you took from it and you clearly have a very strong admiration for your father!
I needed this right now, laughing out loud lol 😂 thank you for sharing this 😂
What a super cool throw back! Thanks for sharing!!
That was awesome to see. Thank you for sharing.
This is such a great video! I remember seeing things like this when I was young in the 70s and early 80s.
I love that your dad has passed this down to you!
omg this was so cool!! Thank you so much for sharing this!!
This video explains....so much. It's clear to see why you are the way you are 🤣 You get it from Papa.
That was Great! Ty for sharing 💓
So much fun! No wonder you quit your day job. Thank you for sharing this. Happy Father’s Day ❤
Amazing! Thank you for sharing
Loved every second of this... I laughed a lot too 🤣 they were brilliant and SO skilled. Can definitely see where you get your skills from JZW 🥰
This was an unexpected fun on this Saturday morning. That was great.
this video was great, thanks for sharing.
God bless you. Keep up the good work.
I just came across your channel. This was awesome. I always like older things like this.
This brings back so many fond memories of John, David, and Jerome. Thanks, Jack. Tell your Dad that Grizelda said Hi.
I LOVE the classic bits!!! Oh my sweet baby Jeebus it takes me allll the way back ❤️❤️
When insurance wasn't a big deal
Incredible!
It would be cool to see more recordings of your dad's old shows. This was a joy to watch.
Amazing!
Love the old castle stage now the tower stage.
Never been this early 😅 the vids always deliver 👏🏽
This is such a good performance!
1984, thats slightly before i was born lol
I used to go to Scarborough Faire a lot and made sure I saw them every time. Gave them some photos I took of them also.
Oh i loved this! If I'm correct that's your Dad. Now we know where you got your good looks and talent from.
That was awesome!
This is so cool!!
What a treat!
It all makes so much sense now....
Brings back memories!
Amazing
Fantastic viewing! Thank you!
This is incredible I love seeing performances from the pre cameraphone age. I think half of the audience holding up a phone ruins the performance. Your dad is an incredible showman and I see where you get this from. I have been involved in countless projects (as a techie) with circus performers in the uk and you are both some of the best I have seen. We’re starting to loose a lot of these acts for more dangerous and flashy acts. I think this is more impressive than some of the newer acts. This is all my opinion of cause and I may be wrong.

I would say you are correct, especially where there is presence of any technical enhancements to make an act more exciting. An old friend of mine played glass harmonica at many of the Renaissance Faires, Terry Hinely, and with an instrument like that, perfection is all there is to begin with. RIP Terry.
Now shows like this was good ole fashioned shows they don't make em like this no more just good ole fun hard to find this anymore I can watch this all day
this is wholesome
This is so cool.
This is gold
Not for nothing, but your father was OMG hawt! :)
This is wonderful and I felt like I was watching sigh family 🥹
Did he ever do Southern California? My mom and her sister were hardcore into going to the fair every weekend back then.
This was so cool to watch! I watched it with my mom. She always wanted to go to TRF during those early days but her folks wouldn't let her. When she was grown she went on her own and brought me along with her.
That's so beautiful to see. Thank you for sharing! Please would you consider continueing My Immortal?
Haha "yeaahh alright!" Audiences haven't changed much.
