Came here for the kit... Was blown away at the great musicianship on the drums! Way to make that snare sing the way it should. GREAT drumming!

I have played a vintage Rogers set for about 20 years. My dad meet Louie back in the 60's and he hooked him up with a blue onyx kit that he still has to this day. He said Louie told him that they were tanks of a kit and my dad said it survived being dropped out of helicopter onto aircraft carrier and it still looks and sounds fantastic. I sent this to my dad thanks for sharing the story.

I really like Steve Maxwell. Yes, of course he's a businessman, but he presents his stuff in such a nice and honest way. Also, he can really play. He's excellent, and you know that he truly loves the drums; it's not just all about the money. I did a drum clinic with Louie in 1976. I was turning 23 years old. I am not sure if Louie was playing Slingerland or Remo at that time. It was definitely after his Rogers period. Anyway, Steve did a superb job here.

Dear Sir. You must have thought all your christmases had come at the same time on the final parts of this kit coming into your possession,WOW. The sound of the kit is Louie, and what a sound from the snare drum which I will get one day for myself. I saw a drum clinic in London by Louie, and the concert with our great Kenny Claire,Buddy and Louie hence the Conversations LP. Buddy walked on stage and as he passed Louies kit took two of his cymbals on their stands and added them to his kit.Louie came on walked across and retrieved his cymbals but took Buddies bag full of sticks back to his kit.The stage had been set, same it wasn't videoed. Another time I saw Louie was with the Daley /Wilson Big band.I was in Sydney as a side drummer in the Royal Marines Band onboard the Her Majesty's Royal Yacht Britannia. We were given an invite to the Musicians Union Club, only to find out that Louie was going to be playing with this world class big band.Louie and Warren Daley (co leader and drummer) were AWSOME,talk about iron sharpening iron,WOW

Very nice! Close your eyes and just the sound of the bass drums alone says it was a Bellson kit. (Very much like his recording with Ellington of "Skin Deep".) I play a '66 Rogers Holiday kit, and back in the 80's in a Toronto music store there was a Rogers kit in full Louis Bellson style for all of $800. Should have bought it...

Wonderfull piece of History. Thanks for preserving it. It's always good to see an instrument that old get played. Sure there may be some material views on the drumset cuz it was really belson's but if its playable I'd rather see it go to someone who's going to play it then end up in a showroom or museum where it can't be played often.

Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing this. I wonder how MF felt when he learned that the additional gold hardware was found and the entire set fully restored? BTW... Louie was aware that Altovise (or the IRS) was auctioning off the set and chose not to pursue any effort to claim ownership. He always insisted that Sammy had "borrowed" this set. He felt that trying to regain custody of them would not have been the classy thing to do. Louie was an uncommon musician and person.

So sad that Rogers are now just history. Sound great and record great. The ball and socket tom holders would not always stay in place but that's the only negative . I can't see the point of having two 16 inch floor toms because a well tuned 18 inch is a thing of beauty. Thanks Steve.

That's in interesting story. Glad it all worked out in the end. I hope you got a good deal on that trap case and it's contents! Did you leave the kit how Loui tuned it or did you tune it to your preference or change heads, etc...? I have an old set of Rogers with large sizes like that and the script logo and they sound similar to this kit I would say. The difference being it is just a single 14 x 24 inch bass drum and 16 and 18 floor toms and two rack toms, 13 and 14. When I bought them they did not come with a snare so I purchased a chrome over brass Rogers snare (5 1/2 x 14 Power Tone).
