Man these types of shows are so sorely missed. There was a time when to be an entertainer you had to be an immense talent. Roger Miller could sing in perfect pitch, was a stand-up comic, unbelievably quick witted, brilliant songwriter, virtuoso guitar picker, virtuoso fiddle player. He wrote 800 songs in his life. He was an entertainer in the purest sense of the word. One of the most under appreciated talents in music history, he is sorely missed.

And now-a-days if someone stands up on the stage of America's Got Talent and cries.. and says.. "I want to sing this for my grandmother who died of cancer".. They audience coos.. and claps.. And it all sounds exactly like the previous performer who's grandmother died of cancer.. Roger was an extremely gifted, true American original, and we will most likely not see the likes of this level of talent pass our way again.

in those days, America was top dog, and Roger Miller was the artsi who made it all look logical and simple. And in recently freed Europe Roger Miller had lots of fans because he embodied the free world and our dreams that we were gonna go to america one day...And these loves last, my brother from the netherlands travelled to the pacific northwest 20 years ago , , rents a big Chevrolet Tahoo or similar and sends me over a video where they're driving thru Washington state with a Roger Miller tape playing. But everybody knew that this type of effortless United States is no longer there.

An outright genius, but did he stray into to many fields? For all his successes he had many failures. . His indisciplined approach to music made it difficult to put him into any single caregory. Was that a blessing or a curse.?. Roger was indeed an enigma.

genius mchaggis ... poor ANYONE who is an alcoholic. Poor family, also. For 17 yrs i was married to a gorgeous alcoholic whom i loved very much, so I know very well the devastation. It took 2 yrs after he left so he'd be free to booze, party, & sleep wherever before I could accept that he did me a favor. It took yrs to rebuild the kid's & my life. That was nearly 40 YRS AGO and, unexpectedly, it still hurts just to say that....
