The best song from one of the best films ever made. The film that accurately predicted in 1968 that the counter-culture of the 60s would die because of an over-fixation on drugs. "We blew it".

Out of the blue I heard the lyrics in my head tonight and for the last 30 minutes I have listened to it over and over and over...it IS that damn good. I've remembered this song after all these years and it's like listening to it for the first time...brilliant!
Mcguinn's best interpretation of a Dylan song, imo.
While Dylans song is an absolute lyrical masterpiece this version really has the edge that really creates the magic.

My brother saw easy rider in the theatre in 1969 when he was 13. He told me it cost him a lot, two dollars lol. The story I heard was that Peter Fonda wanted to fire Dennis Hopper after they fought on set. I loved the scene in the New Orleans crypt cemetery 👍
LYRICS "Darkness at the break of noon Shadows even the silver spoon The handmade blade, the child's balloon Eclipses both the sun and moon To understand you know too soon There is no sense in trying As pointed threats, they bluff with scorn Suicide remarks are torn From the fool's gold mouthpiece the hollow horn Plays wasted words, proves to warn That he not busy being born is busy dying Temptation's page flies out the door You follow, find yourself at war Watch waterfalls of pity roar You feel to moan but unlike before You discover that you'd just be one more Person crying So don't fear WHEN you hear A foreign sound to your ear It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing A question in your nerves is lit Yet you know there is no answer fit To satisfy, insure you not to quit To keep it in your mind and not forget That it is not he or she or them or it That you belong to Although the masters make the rules For the wise men and the fools I got nothing, Ma, to live up to For them that must bow down to authority That they do not respect in any degree Who despise their jobs, their destinies Speak jealously of them that are free Cultivate their flowers to be Nothing more than something they invest in

Easy Rider and Vanishing Point two epic movies from back then
Dylan told Dennis Hopper to get McGUINN to do this version for the movie. Harmonica played by Byrds drummer/multi-instrumentalist Gene Parsons. Note the 12 string acoustic guitar work by McGUINN.

A good choice. Iv'e heard Dylan sing this before. Bob Dylan is one of the greatest and most Prolific song writers of all time, but let's face it.....not the best singer although it doesn't matter with some of his songs. McGuinn was definitely the best choice for this particular song.

This is Bob Dylan all the artist used pen names because the record labels wouldn’t allow them to use the songs. Guess the 70s was a lot easier to get around then it would be now
Having just traveled across the country on a Honda cb900f from Philadelphia to Arizona this makes my 5th time on two wheels Coast to Coast. But this song reverberate across the miles. Only those who make that trip across the country on two wheels can fully appreciate this song
This is the best version,....love the harp !!!
First saw Easy Rider in 1972 in the cinema .... and now again and again on Blu-ray Disc ... that was a great time man.

Saw it first time last night. Came out 9 years before I existed. It's multi-generational too.
I'ed have to say, this is the BEST movie soundtrack I've ever heard in my life! Every song is fuckin' great man. Damn! I smoked alot of pot watching this movie!! "That he not buzy being born is buzy dyin!"

Yep, Bob Dylan.
to my opinion ,and I am a Dylan fan , this acoustic version is the best I've heard , good peace of music to test a twelve string guitar
i think this is the best version, because it is faster and the atmosphere is more intense than dylan's original.
definitely, his voice gives real life to the lyrics (which are, to Dylan's credit, amazing), plus the harmonica really adds that something special :)

They only have music sets, like a big juke box, you tube has the real meat and potatoes with class action gravy on top ,like this set here, i feel full with sets like this, and others from you tube. I hear you about paying for it and not being satisfied.
Who ever is out there that can dig this,I salute you! I challenge anyone of any age. write some lyrics that will even come close . Dylan, was sent to guide us. Thanks Bob✌💜& understanding!
McGuinn playing Dylan. Doesn't get any better. Alas, having seen the movie many times, I will forever associate this song with the horrific ending. It's one of those movie moments when the soundtrack is indelibly linked to what happens on the screen, e.g., the shower scene in "Psycho" with Bernard Hermann's haunting score.

It's nice to hear it had that affect on another generation. I saw it when it came out and it had a lasting effect on me and many others i know from my generation. Been riding Harleys ever since. Take care brother.
I still remember when I used to listen to it in my teens (14-15) and I did not speak English yet, though I was sure the words made up for a "protest song". Still I am only sighing
marvelous version, gonna see this man live in a few weeks here in small belgium!
Adore this song, watched Easy Rider with my father as a kid, all the soundtrack is amazing, but this stuck with me. I did a remix of it eventually, for the dance music lovers, but what an amazing record.
My captain America anthem for my road trip journey peace everyone .
Director Dennis Hopper asked Peter to talk to the statue as if he were talking to his mother, who died via suicide when Peter was 10 years old. Peter didn't want to do it, as he had never confronted his feelings about his mother. But Hopper insisted, which is why you hear Peter call the statue "Mother", and he states that he both loves her and hates her, which expresses his conflicted emotions. This scene persuaded Bob Dylan to allow the use of his song "It's Alright Ma" in one of the final scenes, which contains lyrics referencing suicide. Peter told Dylan, "I need to hear those words", and he agreed to its use.

Totally awesome, I love the lyrics. This goes father than the amount of the song shown on Easy Rider. Good stuff!
Ifins I is correctly recollectin, this song may have been the musical fork in the road that lead me right back to here,
Great version.
"What's wrong with freedom? That's what it's all about"
I prefer Bob’s live renditions of this but I like this one a lot! Thanks!

My now deceased father had a sportster 1200 designed just like Captain America that he sold. Now that he's gone it gets more relatable to this song.
Brilliant movie!
Timely words these days- "the Masters make the rules for the wise men and the fools". And I might add some Dylan- "The times, they are a' changin' ".
and i love this movie two ofma best actors ever jack and denis...rip
on of my favriote movies
God, what a song :D
That's Roger McGuinn, of The Byrds. In the 1960s they hung out with Dylan.
Timeless !!!
Thanks, Great Pick.

True. But Gotta give it that i love the harmonica in this one. Sounds alot better.
Yes the best version
Sad end, beautiful movie...
This was awesome. Absolutely as good when he went electric with it; i.e. Budokan.
ahhhh...Ive never known what this was called....I reckon I'll be listening to this a few times now Ive found it!
i think the harmonica adds this feeling of freedom to the song. or i just have watched the movie too often ;)
Groovy!!!!!!
i really like this cover
"Oh them that must obey authority, that they do not respect in any degree. Who despise their jobs and destiny, speak jealousy of them that are free. Do what they do just to be nothing more than they invest in...."
best music
The best song of the best film made. The film that accurately predicted that the counter-culture would die because of an over-fixation on drugs. "We blew it".

You know what? We blew it billy.
2012 my eldest boy has and still does ride a Triump Daytona 675 triple in Aussie, good for 255kmphr plus and yes he has tested it
i think that dylans version is alot more tense and prophetic, i like dylan's better but the chorus sounds better in this version
cool movie
This is definitely the definitive version of the song. I have an indelible memory of “Easy Rider.”
A real tour de force!
It would be a devastating shock to our antiquated systems...
EASY RIDER.......
because the original version is from dylan. maybe you heared that first and watched the movie later. i dont know xD
I'm hip about time.
This version is better than Bob Dylan version . This version is little bit gives you cold sweats ..
