Excuses. A great-playing Murray costed him the gold medal, not this match. Federer wasn't tired after the long SF against Del Potro. The Del Potro-Federer Olympics SF only lasted 4 hours and 26 minutes. The Nadal-Dimitrov SF in the Australian Open 2017 lasted 4 hours and 54 minutes. That is to say, the Nadal-Dimitrov SF lasted half an hour more than the Delpo-Federer one. Federer was 30 years old in the Olympics 2012 SF, just like Nadal was 30 years old in the AO 2017 SF. Followiing your logic, Nadal lost the AO 2017 SF because he was tired. To defend that Federer lost the Olympics final because he was tired, but Nadal didn't lose the AO final because he was tired is a fallacy (wrong argument) known as double standard logic (judging two similar situations by different standards, when in reality you should use the same standard).

@@jameswalker6864 At least in slams you get a day's break between matches. The Olympics asked you to play 6 matches across 7 days. Yes, it was Bo3 but I still think it stands to reason Fed would be a bit knackered after this match going into the next day - especially as Bo3 tournaments usually end third sets on a tiebreak, unlike those played at the Olympics.

This is why Murray won that Olympics and Wimbledon 2013. No way Fed loses 3-0 in the final on GRASS against Murray with a chance to win his first Olympics. Also, knowing what we know about Djokovic at Wimbledon now, no way Djokovic loses in the Wimbledon final 3-0! Murray will take it though, no complaints for him, he’ll take whatever he can get in this brutally talented era of tennis.

What so Federer can't handle a single three-set semi-final? Give it a rest. Murray's matches with Federer were always competitive, and he beat him fair and square in the final, after beating probably the best of all time in the semi. In fact Murray was up i the 2012 Wimbledon final before it rained and the roof was put up

  • @andrewgreen5892

People even diminish Murray's achievement in winning Wimbledon 2013 because Djokovic played 5 sets in the semi. Huh well (1) Murray played 5 sets in the quarter, and (2) this is the same Djokovic who beat Murray then Nadal in two of the longest five sets in history in Melbourne in 2012, after which both of the finalists could barely stand up? That Djokovic?

@@andrewgreen5892 The key difference for Djokovic in Wimbledon 2013 as opposed to Australia 2012 was that he had 2 days of rest after playing a five setter in the semis of AO 2012, whereas he had 1 day of rest in Wimbledon 2013 because of the scheduling. The semifinal match in 2013 was played for 2 days. Again, Murray will take it in this era.

It's not as if Federer was a class apart in the 2012 final, Murray won the first set. Murray could always do Federer damage even in his first two grand slam finals, he just had big dips in concentration. When that part of his game improved and he got more aggressive, he started to win grand slams
