After watching this match live in 2014, I was convinced fed could never beat nadal at grand slam level. Glad I was wrong when 2017 came along. That was the most special AO. Love both those champs.

Rafael nadal was unbeaten in AO 2014 the forehand as usual and controlling backhand and ball returns and serves and sliding in hardcourt

@@masters.1000 Right. A player against whom, up to that point, he had never lost a set. Seven years. 12 matches. 26 sets. Three different surfaces (Outdoor Hard, Indoor Hard, Outdoor Clay). Not one set lost to Wawrinka. Only one set lost to Dimitrov in the quarterfinals of the '14 AO. Coming off the best hardcourt run of his career. Yep. Nadal is simply a guy who has never been injured and just conjures up excuses for each of his losses. That makes total sense. 👍

  • @NLLeFa

People don't realize that when Nadal had the legs he was an absurdly hard matchup for Federer. What I mean is he was able to counter punch every shot that Federer had for the majority of their meetings on any outdoor surface. Rogi had the cards on indoor hard only and on grass in 06. Wimbledon 07 and 08 were both 5 sets so we call it even. However, Nadal lost them legs, at least in terms of speed and being able to be so explosive from both sides. He had to change his style and go for shots rather than be able to resist from the baseline and wait for the perfect opportunity, he had to stay more aggressive which would never work vs Fedi, since he has always been the better shot selector between the two. Nadal needs time to find his shots, he needs to find the best positions and angles and everything. And when he has that, he is better than Federer. But both of them toe to toe, just shots wise, no energy and running, Fed takes it. Which is what we saw in 2017.

Je ne sais pas quel tennis vous regardez mais Rafa est un joueur très technique, intelligent, avec un tennis IQ incroyable, qui a joué des matchs et délivré des points légendaires et iconiques de ce sport.
