The thing is Federer didn't play to hit these special shots. He would just hit them cause that's how he played. He's barely even celebrating most of these shots. He's dialed in and simply playing the sport

I think the key to a lot of these shots is the ability to generate torque in his wrist as opposed to his arm, his opponents are looking the wrong way because the arm isn't giving any clues as to the direction of the shot.

You don't hit tennis shots with your wrist, nowhere near enough power

Federer is the best tennis player ever because there appears to be a lack of 'engineered-ness' to him; Nadal was taught to be left-handed and apply savage top spin for x reasons; Djoko is known colloquially as a machine (no surprises there). Federer's innate sense of where and how his opponent and his body was moving, where his racket and court positioning was - there seems to be an artistry to that. In Djoko and Nadal, there's a sense of bullying your opp into submission; Fed out-danced you.

Todays game is everyone playing the exact same style-grunt and hit it as hard as you can 👎 No one serves and volleys anymore.

If u actually believe he improvised those shots, instead of having practised all these trick shots during training, then u would be a fool.
