Big props to cinematographer Gregg Toland. I believe Citizen Kane is a great film due to his indispensable creative contributions.

I couldn't agree more, FWIW. Gregg Toland's camera work is dazzling and endlessly inventive. Every scene, every still is a masterpiece, perfectly composed.

Denise Coffin ebert is the only critic to have a pulitzer prize and you fail because he didn't write movies as you stated he wrote about them

William Ogle Wrong, stupid. Ebert wrote trash like "Vixens Up" and co wrote "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls". He never told me what to watch, he couldn't even pick his clothes

Ebert is doing what he did best--sharing his synopsis and diagnosis for what's widely considered to be the greatest thing anyone ever put on film. And all anyone her is doing is quite simply, spitting venom and pissing acid on the grave of this esteemed film critic who is now long dead. What is wrong with all of you? He's discussing on the most vital contributions to cinema there is... and all you haters and never-wills out there are just bitterly talking about how Ebert never himself had a career penning scripts with the same success of David Mamet or Quentin Tarantino. A little respect for Welles... and maybe for Ebert, too... and cinema. Jesus...

giving your opinion is just that...it is not compelled by anyone else no matter how great they are. It's a good movie..but it's not great...the acting is not great, the story is not top notch either...but since all the great critics agree, then I guess i have to agree? Sorry...I don't. And it brings no disrespect to Ebert or Welles. Both greats, no doubt about it.

@@lgmnowkondo938 The acting is amazing, the cinematography, script and directing are great too. I can understand some poeple might be disapointed, after all this movie is a legend or myth if you want, almost 80 years being called the best movie, what could leave up to that?

The Criterion Collection version of Citizen Kane features Roger Ebert's commentary on the 2nd audio track. Rich in detail, I recommend it very much.

If it wasn't for Roger widescreen on home video would never have existed. And if widescreen never caught one, I have to wonder how much longer it would have taken for HDTV to exist.

This really, really makes me want to kick myself. Get this: I was living in Boulder, Colorado one summer when Ebert did a frame-by-frame (literally) analysis of "Citizen Kane" at the Univ of Colorado Mackey Auditorium. And I didn't go to see it . . .

I really like this movie, I probably wouldn’t call it the best movie ever, not with films like Vertigo, King Kong or Batman The Movie (1966), but certainly it is a great movie and it does deserve its status as one of the greatest films ever

Noooo u r wrong Avengers endgame, infinity war and few other commercial, repeated and soulless superhero movies(excluding the dark knight trilogy and watchmen bcoz they didnt have action which i require the most bcoz i neither have the patience nor the brain to understand great stories) are the greatest movies of all time.

I just watched this movie and I would have to say that it was ok...perhaps even good. But, it just might not stand the test of time...everyone who is anyone says it's the best movie ever made...that's just classic Hollywood group think. We all agree that this is the best, so we know you will also agree.....well, I don't agree.
