Grammy Award winning songwriter, record producer and musician Rodney "DarkChild" Jerkins invites us into his LA studios for a tour of the facilities where he's recorded artists such as Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Pussycat Dolls and Mary J. Blidge.
In this segment Rodney explains the different types of setups he uses and goes into detail about his favorite outboard gear such as Neve EQ's, Avalon Compressors and Auratone speakers. We'll go in depth with the software he uses like the Waves Mercury Bundle and the SSL line of plugins which help him achieve his signature sounds.

Hi, thanks for watching! What DarkChild is referring to are the individual outputs of the MPC. He moded them so their output is hotter (louder) than usual. This allows him to track more aggressive sounding drum patterns which he can then continue to mix once in Pro Tools. This is a technical modification and should be researched before doing it yourself so you don't damage the MPC.

@lilkjsizzle Hi, thanks for watching! DarkChild also prefers the Yamaha NS-10 near field monitor because of it's frequency range. They are designed to be flat and represent consumer grade listening devices so if you can make your mix sound good on the NS-10's chances are your mix will translate better when played through the listeners ear phones, car stereo or home system.

@thuglikepac0 haha, not really dude. The stars are like the front men, they get the attention but they die quicker also. If you a producer, you have longevity. Also stars are likely to be vain bc they are judged on many superficial factors, whereas producers lay low, under the radar, in other words, CHILLIN' !

9000J is the same board they used to mix Never Say Never album. Which is the best album that Rodney ever made. But he should not dwell on all those old af accolades. Because its not about what he did. It's about what you are doing. He hasnt done s&&^% lately. All that equipment and hasnt made an impact this decade or most of last decade. Either he has gotten lazy or his s&%$ is not hitting the same.
