    Starrone83 For the business to make money. 80s were not good. In 90s there was WCW..then ECW. I think the PG era is the best era because I grew up watching in the pg era; wrestlers like- John Cena, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, Wyatt, rusev, etc. also watched TNA- Mick Foley, RVD, Hulk, Sting, Kurt !

    Starrone83 1983. How can you remember things from 82-93. You probably talking about new generation era. 93-97 ! I am from PG era. After 2017 I stopped watching. Mainly followed in 2014-15. Started watching in 2012.

    When he went there was the best thing happened in wrestling at the time. Pity Vince never went hard on Flair Hogan first time match ever on pay per view instead of giving it away at house shows. ...it would of been massive.

    As a teenager then who grew up watching Flair, this was EXACTLY what I wanted and expected to see when he arrived. He brought some legitimacy to WWE, some non-cartoonish violence and attitude from the NWA.

    I was at this TV taping, The commentating is generally added in AFTER the fact from the TV studios in CT. The commentators would come out at the very beginning to introduce the show and then disappear backstage. Every so often between matches they would come back out so the camera man could establish a shot to make it appear like they were doing live commentary and they’d go right back to dressing room. So some people in the audience kind of knew something was about to happen when Vince, Roddy and Savage came out and sat down before the match and then STAYED there instead of heading to the back.

    @@cloud1stclass372 I was very shocked in hindsight that Macho allowed Flair to effectively wreck his loving image of Elizabeth until I recalled their relationship was long over in real life during this time & Flair was the perfect heel to take any real-life heat during Macho’s downtimes. WCW went the cheap route though by rehashing the Flair vs Macho feud, where Liz actually turned on her former husband, as we all saw it coming. Her being so candid in WCW vs her demure WWF character was very new at least.

    @@mac888spectral7 That should've been tag matches with other guys where Hogan took legitimate dirty pins that could've been broadcast weekly for months where Flair boasted of how many times he pinned Hogan in a few months vs. any other superstar in WWF history. Imagine how much sympathy and vulnerability Hulk can sell to rejuvenate his career by acknowledging Flair's "dirtiest player in the game" persona to where he's barely winning matches against other foes on the road to WM that year.

    Absolute class, I remember at the time thinking this was the best thing I'd ever seen (I still thought it was real). Makes me sad to see the state of WWE these days.     @@middlefinger1565 SHOULD is the key word. Vince SHOULD have done a LOT of things but his ego never allows him to acknowledge the greatness of something HE didn't "create". We NEVER got Slick Ric, the Naitcha Bohwyyy in WWE. It was too mature for that live cartoon Vince was producing 😆😆😆

    Back then the guys in this industry knew how to sell it They were the masters flair and Piper and many others. The majority of these wrestlers nowadays are nothing but hacks and alot of it is slick and polished a bit too much. AEW/ROH is bringing the old school hard knocks back tho.

    Piper and Flair were actually good friends. Sad this time is gone as are most all of those wrestlers in that era of late 1970s to early 1990s. Best era as far as mass attention on the sport/entertainment of pro wrestling, and the birth of wrestlemania took place, 1985. I still remember it. Piper best villain, ever, IMO. So funny. great entertainer.

    Yup. The first time they met Piper walked into the locker room while Dusty Rhodes and Dick Murdock had Flair on all fours on a table trying to shove two hemeroids back up his ass. Pipers said hi im Roddy piper and walked out.

    I had this episode of WWF Superstars on tape when I was a kid, and gods only know how many times I watched this. Of course my memories revolve around the first match, which was the first time I saw Bret Hart as the new IC champion vs Brooklyn Brawler. And while I've been a fan and have never stopped watching WWF/WWE since around 1989, this is the era I miss the most - more so than the Attitude Era. I miss the days of Superstars and Wrestling Challenge.

    Ric kept his promise that the minute he laid eyes on Roddy he was going to slap him so hard his skirt was going to fall around his ankles. Roddy had no business assaulting Bobby Heenan and spitting on the gold. RIP to the memories of Hot Rod and the Weasel.

    @@mdczern1 The only matches the national audience saw were the Survivor Series with Flair surviving and the 2-minute one-sided beatdown during the Royal Rumble as Piper was on the offensive for 100% of that encounter.

    Flair came in as the real world champion and I for one truly believed that statement. And as the old saying goes the proof in the pudding. He went after the two top guys at that moment in time first Piper then Hogan. This incident set up the team match with piper/flair for the SS and of course with flair being the sole survivor.

    Billed as the "Real World's Champion", yet still allowed to wear his "Nature Boy" robes. Very glad Vince never tried to rebrand Flair or the rest of the Horsemen that arrived on his doorstep once the NWA lost this stable.

    @@fivebearrugs Besides a team name that aligned them to Bobby Heenan, Arn and Tully just had to point to their heads and wear that team name while still sporting their NWA look and wrestling style. Windham got several raw deals, yes. First, they ignored his US Express history with that "Widowmaker" moniker, then he was "The Stalker" during the very early days of the Attitude Era. Then again, we were also supposed to believe Mike Rotunda was IRS after nearly a decade in-between tagging with Barry and returning to the Federation. Same with an Iranian Iron Shiek being an Iraqi colonel after several years.

    Flair's entry into the WWE was such a good angle. It involved no many characters. The best storylines get multiple people involved, all with different motives but woven together in one story. Hogan, Flair, Piper, Savage. Great stuff.
