As a fellow model railroader for over 50 years, you to appreciate the time, effort, creativity and money it takes. It's not as easy as it looks in building this piece of 3D art.

I really would love to hear and see more about Rod Stewart’s hobby and see and hear less from commentators! Not interested in your hobbies I’m interested in Rods hobby which is quite breathtaking.

Well said John. It drives me nuts when people refer to my model railway as a "train set".

If Rod had painted a picture he would be considered an artist. Instead he paints in 3D. Model railways can simply be about loving trains but also recreating in 3d a scene that other artists paint with a brush. Lets hope that one day Sir Rods art can be part of a nation treasure for the public to enjoy. Also a trainset is something you get in a box with track a few wagons and a loco. When you build a model railway it can hardly be a called a trainset.

It's NOT journalism ! It's sensationalism !! Real journalists would have visited Rod in his home and gone more in depth of his hobby. As I too am a model rail, this sucked..People outside of trains never get it right ! That scene in "Unstoppable" where the engine is tipped over running on the outside rails on the curve, squealing and sparks flying is a perfect example ! Engine would have completely derailed before this ..AND if there is a runaway train, they'd dispatch a loco and cars miles ahead of it, rolling slower, and hunker it down...

It does not have to require tons of space...Thousands have 'switching layouts' and or short-line/branch-line layouts. Plus it depends on what scale you are in: G, O, S, HO, N, or Z; G being largest, Z smallest..

Model railroads. He is a model railroader. No wonder he's so cool.

The reason Rod's model trains hobby is a good thing is it keeps him out of trouble. As rock stars trouble with drugs and other things is avoided by having something to do.

As I understand it Rod as way prouder of being on the cover of Model Railroader than he is of having been on the (que the music) cover of Rolling Stone.

That is really a beautiful work of art, one of the nicest I'e ever seen.

Model railroad or model railway. Not model train set. And his layout isn't a secret, it has been known he has been building this for the entire 23 years he has been.

That layout is fantastic. It needed to be respected.

Let's not forget that Neil Young is huge into model trains as well - even owned a chunk of Lionel Corporation at one time. Also helped develop a controller for his son who had some physical issues.

I waNNA like this for Rod stewart but dislike for these people.

People that call my model railway a "train set" get tied to the tracks in front of the 12.22. You call it Model Railroading so I guess you're from the US (maybe Canada?). In the UK we call it Railway Modelling.

Less than a minute of Rod's railroad.

Rod recently visited a local model railway shop in Australia and BOUGHT some items for Rod doesn't have a huge ego and thinks because he is who he is that model railway items should be given to him. Here in Australia we don't suck up to celebrities and when we see them in the street we treat them like normal people. Sir Paul McCartney was having coffee in a coffee shop and no one approached him, they just left him alone to enjoy his coffee and what he bought to eat. Okay they're multi millionaires who've had very public careers but they're also human just like the rest of us and deserve to be treated as such.

Now here sits a bunch of certified geniuses.

How did he do it? He's colorblind... his house was painted like mint green for years because he thought it was white... i wonder who painted it

He referenced that in a "Model Railroader" article one time. He has trouble with greens and his scenery was ending up with a lot of reddish hues. I think he said he later got some help to assist in the color balance of the scenery materials.

All mouth - no content. The first engine shed looks like it's modelled upon Kyōtō's railway museum. If you love locomotives, and visit Japan, then you have to visit that museum.

I kinda wanted to see more of the train set and really couldn't give a crap about whistling, ear moving and whatever toupee dude was on about..

The talk show host with the young kids can have a hobby - by assisting the kids with their hobbies. There was a live -TV kid's show on a Los Angeles station called " Engineer Bill's Cartoon Express " in the 1950s & 60s ( it's on You Tube ). His guests were elementary school-aged kids who would build a model train car to display on the show. It was revealed that the kids got help to build the car from their parents & older siblings.

"I don't have a passion, I have children" ... Rod Stewart has like 9 children.

Maybe if they liked the model train hobby; they'd be awesome musician's too, which they clearly aren't.

THE WHOLE TRUTH & NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH !!!!! Strange.The Rumour on the Street is that Rod's "train sets", were commercially built to order ! Certainly one of his earlier layouts was built by "Bertram Otto" a professional layout manufacturing Company, well known for their famous Film & Rock Star customers ! Their original workshops were in Lord Montagu's, Beaulieu Abbey grounds, also known as the home of the National Motor Museum, near Brockenhurst in the "New Forest" Hampshire U.K !!! And I would argue the concept that they were "mind blowingly realistic" as they do not even have handbuilt professional track. Virtually everything is commercial "out of the packet" products.

I bet Rod didn't get his hands dirty.
