Tremendous bat control he used the whole field. He approached hitting like an artist to canvas. Rod is one of my favorite players of all time.

In my opinion rod is one of the most underrated players in major league baseball history. When great hitters are discussed his name seldom comes up but he's absolutely one of the greats

Underrated???? 😂😂😂😂 someone ALWAYS has to post this ridiculous comment about some famous, artist, actor, actress, musician , etc..on KZread. 😂😂😂 Listen Skippy, maybe the people in your sewing class make that statement but anybody associated with professional baseball would NEVER utter such a mind numbing and retarded statement that he's underrated...😂😂😂LMAO!!!

I grew up a HUGE baseball fan in the 1960's and 70's. I watched players very closely. Rod Carew was the BEST baseball player I ever saw personally. He could absolutely handle a bat. Amazing bunter. He could often hit the ball exactly where there was a gap in the infield. He was a fast runner, although not quite the burner like Ralph Garr or Tim Raines.....but he studied pitcher's tendencies and had a great feel of timing, so he could steal many bases including stealing home, which is an amazing thing to see! Later as a hitting coach, Rod Carew was instrumental in the teaching and development of Jim Edmonds.

lucky enough to see rod carew and george brett a few times, tony gwynn in that class but i didn't see much national league, carew was a magician with the bat, i watched him go 4 for 4 one game, a lefty on the mound he put 3 in a row between short and 3rd for hits, they bring in a right hander and he hits a line drive into right. amazing eye and hand coordination plus like he said, he knew what he wanted to do when he got up there.

Rod got 7 Batting Titles, and the American league batting title named after him. and Tony Gwynn in the national league. that brother got 8 batting titles.

In 1969, Carew stole home 7 times. That tied him for second place for one season. Only Ty Cobb stole home 8 times in one season.

I used to have an old record that had several tracks that would have Mel calling certain at bats so you could play a game with it. Always great to hear him

He often cheated up in the box and not behind it like most do. He would especially do this for pitchers that threw a lot of breaking balls because he said it gave the ball less time and distance to break.
