I would've added the "GET UP, YOU SON OF A BITCH! 'Cause Mickey loves ya" immediately after that before Paulie said his line about "can't take any more hits, Rock."

The work-print, definitely. Tommy was manipulated by Duke and Rocky knew that. I also understand there was a bit in the work-print where one of the cops who picked Tommy up asked for his autograph and after he signed it he said, "All I wanted was respect." Nice conclusion for him.

I liked at the end he held his hand out to help him up. That’s the Rocky everyone knows and loves.

Work print is better. Much better. The music, the scenes, the dialogue, even how he extends his hand at the end makes everything more humane and dignified. Much better.

Everything I love about the final fight in Rocky V is summed up when Paulie yells, "Remember the streets, Rocko!"

Rocky just seems more dignified in the workprint version of this fight.

I think Tommy deserved a bit of redemption because what happened to him could happen to anyone. He listened to the wrong people. In the end he should have realized this and shook hands with Rocky and the movie should have ended with Tommy and Rocky in Micky's gym training.

I agree with it all except Rocky and Tommy training in the gym. He still punched Paulie and really tried to hurt Rocky in a Street fight knowing his injuries.

Yes I agree, everyone deserves a second chance! He was brain washed in believing he was Rocky's puppet. By the media and Duke offered him a good deal including the red head 😂

You know, to be honest, I agree. He should have had redemption instead of him going to jail and the actor who is Tommy Gunn? He really is the wrestler in life and he dine in his 50s. And so yeah, he was around my age back then. Well, I'm 21 and yeah, let's just say he should have had redemption instead of not going to jail.

I just love the way rocky is shaking Tommy's hand in the end of the workpint. This thing makes all the difference it can be interpreted like "now we're over no more bad blood between us, have a great life" + i love the way rocky is looking at tommy at the end of the workpint when he see the cops asking autograph instead of arresting him. He's happy for him that he'll be good. Like a big bro.

"Come on kid!!!! Beat the shit out of him." Why they took that part out fucking baffles me

Paulie: “Ya can’t take any more hit to the head” Rocky: “I ain’t gonna” *Proceeds to take multiple hits to the head*

The workprint is superior in every way.

I'd love to see a proper release of this workprint. This ending plays so much better.

Fight wise, the theatrical but it would of been nice to see a redemption for Tommy like at the end of the workprint

Tommy was a piece of garbage like Clubber Lang in the end. He didn't need redemption. I suppose that would be an idea but its hard to be sympathetic towards him either way.

"Fight wise, the theatrical" You're insane. The fight flowed WAAAAAY better in the workprint. The editing of the fight was clunky in the theatrical plus really silly like how they kept dragging on with the same right hand punches that Tommy was landing on Rocky towards the end of the fight just so that they can have all of the parts with Rocky's son and Adrian cheering him on. The workprint is far better edited.

I prefer the work-print of _Rocky V_ to the theatrical version. And I love it when one of the cops asked for Tommy Gunn's autograph after he lost the street fight to Rocky. I thought it was very nice. RIP Tommy Morrison. Tommy Morrison lives forever.

After rocky vs Drago that I saw...( Which was a perfect movie) sly should take another year off to fix this one. I know he didn't direct it but still.

Yeah he should, I would love if he did that. He may not be able to considering he didn't direct it. I would imagine as a producer on it he & the studio would be able to release a "Special Edition" cut of the movie

The work print for sure...the redemption arc gives the ending a much needed emotional lift and the original musical score is much more powerful.

Rocky loved tommy so much.He got abandoned and attacked by his protege and still lifted him up

The work print does wonders for Tommy's character. At this point, he'd been turned into yet another foe for Rocky to overcome and leave behind like in the theatrical. Here, the additional dialogue shows Rocky still willing to reach Tommy, intervene, then finally offer his hand in appreciation and respect after the fight where Tommy gratefully takes it.

Tommy definitely needed to be given a lesson in manners.✊👊🤛

the unreleased version is like... a horror film. i prefer the unreleased / unofficial street fight. wish they would release this in higher quality

This one was better, Tommy eventually realised his mistake and accepted his true mentor.

Love the Tommy Ending. He wasn't soo bad. He was piss, like he didn't deserve to win, he put his heart on it too. Shame.

I liked rocky v....it was cool seeing Mick back too

It was a good idea to show a Rocky which is confused between the train's lights and Mickey's ghost, but the theatrical Mickey scene is still better. But the Work-Print end of the fight is better, because Rocky destroys Tommy and gives him an hand which makes the scene special. In the theatrical version Rocky is being destroyed, with Adrian screaming as if he was going to die, and Rocky suddenly takes advantage, this is non-sense.

The work print was better in terms of the actions that take place but the original music doesn't fit with it for me but I like how he helps him back up that makes the scene a lot more powerful imo

This hits so hard, sly gotta drop the his cut of the fifth movie for sure, might be one of the greatest if it wasnt so cut, if we missed all this, imagine the whole movie

The sad thing is that if the original work-print showed, Rocky would have died in Adrian's arms at the end and there wouldn't have been a Rocky Balboa or the Creed series

I don’t think that’s the case because at the end of the fight for the workout print version it cuts to the ending scene with Rocky and his son like the theatrical release, yes Rocky was originally supposed to die but that later changed

Interestingly... At the end of Rocky, he and Apollo hug each other and mutually express, "no rematch". At the end of Rocky 2, Apollo raises Rocky's arm to say "This guy beat me, respect him." At the end of Rocky 4, Drago listens to the interpretation of Rocky's big speech, humbled by the unlikely knockout. Here, in the work print, Tommy accepts Rocky's hand. If they'd gone with this ending, Clubber Lang would be the only opponent who didn't accept Rocky's victory.

This fight was awesome

The fight was cooler in the workprint but i like how in the original he fought tommy like he's his new enemy

Yeah the beginning of the workprint makes Tommy feel like much more of a threat. The theatrical starts with Rocky steamrolling him at the beginning and u just feel from the start that Rocky is just better

Workprint was so much better

You left out Mickey's theatrical appearance in the seconds before the start of the video, so this is a bit misleading. The initial Mickey scene in the theatrical cut is superior. The dialogue and cinematography is better. Its quicker, its tighter and ties in with the flashbacks images well. Maybe if they polish that workprint a bit more and cut it a bit better and make Mickey look more like a flashback it could be alright. Or more ghostly. But his dialogue felt a bit off, its also partly due to his swearing out of character. I get internet fandoms will always side with the more obscure version, but I think Stallone and Co. probably felt the editing was a bit tighter in the theatrical one. That could change if they worked on a full Director's cut but until then, I say the theatrical version is a great scene in its own right. And Rocky V is a great Rocky film in its own right.

I don't like the way Avildsen used "Going the Distance" in the workprint cut since the song was meant to represent Rocky's inspiring resilience (either against Creed in the first film, or getting back into shape in Rocky II) as opposed to signifying Rocky just pummeling or dominating his opponent. That said, the workprint version of the fight is superior. After seeing Stallone's improvement of Rocky IV with the director's cut, I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting him to also make a director's cut for Rocky V.

I think that the previous scene is simply better because Tommy at this point was already aware that for money and fame, he would bite the person who shook his hand and I doubt that because of a beating, he would change his way of being and Rocky was upset because he hit his brother-in-law and on top of that he opens his wounds caused by Draco, realizing that they have no regard for him at all, it is normal for Rocky to be resentful and he simply understood that Tommy was ungrateful and that is his essence.

The noise masquerading as music in the theatrical version is not only out of place in a Rocky moving picture, but grating on the ears like nails on a chalkboard. Bill Conti and Vince DiCola's music knocks out that earsplitting jungle sound.

I know it’s cool to say that the workprint is better, but I like the theatrical cut better because the workprint makes Rocky look weaker in the final fight. In the theatrical, you could tell that Tommy only had the offense he had because Drago had already fudged Rocky up.

No me cabe en la cabeza que rocky v no fuese más exitosa ya que fue un guión brutal y la pelea final ni se diga,en el 90 la vi en cine con solo 12 años de edad y salí peleando de la sala por la euforia producida por el film, si bien mi favorito de la saga es rocky iv y luego rocky lll la v me encantó también.

Oh man is this work print sooooo much better. I think fans of the series would like Rocky V way more if they chose this one. That says a LOT since it’s human nature to like what you’re familiar with already. The original to you always seems better. Versus remakes to movies , songs, recipes of food you eat etc etc

Not that I would want to see Rocky die but can you imagine the historical impact this film would have made if they killed him off at the end as originally written. It would have been such a better and more significant movie….And a bigger tearjerker than schindlers List, the notebook, Sophie’s choice and Bambi combined

I would take the work-print and put it with the music from the actual scene. I did like the music from the work-print scene and with Mickey there giving him advice was great. I liked the actually scene when Mickey said, “Get up you son of a bitch because Mickey loves you!” Tommy was absolutely manipulated by Duke and Rocky was trying to relate it to the young man but money was talking more than Rocky was

Workprint, i like more on almost everything i saw on other clips, minus mickey scene i perfer the "get up u son of a bitch, cuz mickey loves you more" and the fade in outs more thrn a ghost on the subway seemed off just telling him to beat the shit outta him.
