He's really grown on me as I learn so much about him from YT etc. He was not a dumb brute [eg, like Galento]. Gleason is right about fighters who are gentle outside the ring, though there were plenty who weren't . .

The Rock refereed several of Bruno Sammartinos matches in WWWF When Bruno Was Champion. One of those matches was here in Denver, Colorado. It was to be in the stock yard stadium, an out door venue that sat about 2500. Demand for tickets was so great, Vince McMahon Sr (Owner/Operator/Promoter of World Wide Wrestling Federation) had to move the cars to the coliseum across the highway that sat 23K. Sold it out & still turned away thousands. The Fire Marshall turned a blind eye this one time & people sitting in the aisles. North Denver at one time was all Italian. My dad, grandfather & great grandfather said it seemed like every Italian in North Denver was there. They knew 3/4 of the crowd. Bruno went 45 minutes with Dr Jerry Graham with The Rock as ref. Bruno was champion on the east coast where his territory was 11 states & DC. He would leave the territory often to take on red hot heels in other territories such as Ray Stevens, Killer Kowalski, Harley Race & Fred Blassie. He loved Denver because the Italians were extremely supportive. I met him several times & broke bread him. My dad used to tell me Bruno, Graham & The Rock blew the roof off of the place

Bruno was born & raised in the town of Pizzoferrato, very close Ripa Teatina. Rock was Italian speaking & could read & write in Italian as could Bruno. Rock's mother was from Campania. Rocky Marciano wasn't made to host TV shows. That wasn't in his wheel house. A Renaissance like Mike Tyson could do that or Cassius Clay or George Foreman but he couldn't really do that even though they tried to sell him like that. Boxing was more popular then but they couldn't sell him cause he wasn't good at it. Everyone isn't good at everything

Harald johnson, maxim etc. Walcott was so washed up he just had his best career win with a spectecular knockout over one of the best fighters ever ezzard charles. Marciano beat Charles twice. Louis was old i give you that but still nobody besides charles was beating louis at that time. Schmeling beat him earlier
