    I have to hit the whiskey with something extra or let the ice melt. If I don't, the night rarely ends up under control. 😄

    I just realized you’re over here too. Funny how like minds share so many common interests. That’s a beautiful knife. Solid 66 hardness, Japanese steel is unmatched IMO. Very, very nice. I’m into the handmade Japanese carbon steel kitchen knifes. Have a few beauties. Also learned to hand sharpen, Japanese style with Japanese stones. Practice practice. It’s not as hard as you’d think. But does require OCD to get the best edge. I’ve always said sharpening and alcohol don’t mix. 😆😆. Cheers Pal. Hmmmmm did you say Katana’s???? 😅😅😅

    Japanese win at the forged steel game for sure. My katanas are studio swords - not particularly sharp, but I have some other Japanese swords that are razors. They’re best handled off camera! 😄

    Love the video juts wanted to add ZDP-189 steel is rockwelled to 64-65 on average but some companies get it to 67, I only mention this becasue there are several companies offering it for under $200 in some cases under $150...Rockstead also used it on several models but Spyderco is known tom have used it on dozens of models over the years...great edge retention BUT the harder to steel the easier for it to ship on hard medium like bone or something like zipties...PS good lookin drink looks VERY refreshing on a hot day :) PPS I dont own a rockstead but it always looked like they have a zero edge meaning no bevel Ive used dozens of knives with a zero edge its scary sharp, if you havent already checked one out look at the Cold Steel Spike series for around $35 you would get the same cutting experience only way less edge retention in a small fixed blade, might be a fun food prep knife for camping if your into that...I happen to have carried them as neck knives for years...

  • @doormarkedprivate

    @doormarkedprivate

    Yeah, not a typical edge. They use a hozukuri method like a sword. No offense to Spyderco, but I have more than a dozen, and they don't compare in any way. Spyderco under a microscope would look like a jagged saw blade in comparison. In terms of hardness, you're the first person I've seen suggest there are others putting out knives with a similar hardness scale. I'll have to look into that. Cheers!

    @@doormarkedprivate In overall fit and finish spyderco cant compare at all, they make mass produced knives and although very nice by themselves its on another level its like comparing a nice brand new corvette with all the bells and whistles to a Bugatti, and the prices reflect that ad well :) As you mentioned these are in the factory custom category not one offs but certainly treated the same as customs made stuff...

    Excellent sir! Good call on not taking out the katana while having a Mai Tai, and Appleton is a very good rum. Since I no longer do fruit/sugar filled drinks I do love my 2-3 ounces of a bourbon or whiskey nightcap. I just pickup up a new bottle of Wild Turkey 101. Of course, it’s not on the high end of the spectrum for bourbons but it’s always been a good go-to & not-break-the-bank bourbon, and they’ve recently redesigned their bottle design which I believe is an improvement. Lastly, I have my own small collection of Easton Press books. Like the Wild Turkey 101, Easton Press may not seem to be on the high end for elite connoisseurs, but Easton more than satisfies my particular “taste” in books.

    Not just a great taste in gold but rum too! I brought home a bottle of that Appleton estate from Jamaica a few years back and it didn't disappoint. Quite partial to a Habana club 15 años too, forget the insipid pale stuff, that's the only way to make a decent mojito in my opinion. Cheers! 🥃
