But they all still pushed themselves as hard as they can to deliver a great game and prove that R* isn’t a one trick pony. The game turned out to be a huge success both commercially and critically

@@crisolivares7847 I really hope the next GTA isn't a "one city" deal like titles in the past... It's been 7 years since the last release.. I think they're creating multiple maps to release at once. The ability to fly from one map to another using the airport feature.. I'd like Chicago to be one of those cities. We need a densely urban location for the next GTA. Not another coastal city. Although a beach city would be nice. Or maybe one large integrated map of the country with little cities sprinkled in between. Like The Crew 2? I really think next gen provides too much opportunity for them to stick to 1 single city like in the past. 7 years is too long to wait for just one city

@@MrVoland44 RDR2 was in development for 7 or so years.. how would it have been anyway possible for them to create GTAVI and RDR2 for the PS4? It's simply not. The games Rockstar create with their standards can not be made without the entire team working on it, testing every little thing they can, adding small details; yet you believe they could put out 2 open world masterpieces for the same generation? Yes, they did it on PS3/360 with GTAIV and RDR1 but the scope of those games, the technology and limits they had then compared to now is not comparable. I agree the financial success of GTAO most likely helped and slowed down the production of GTAVI, but game creation has changed and expecting 2 flagship Rockstar titles the scope of current GTA and RDR on the same generation is close to impossible.

​@@Ziddy.I do want to point out that they did release GTA 3, VC, SA in just one generation, along with like 5 more games (Bully, GTA VCS, Manhunt, etc) on just one generation. And each of those games were *flagships*. Hell even in the PS3 gen they released GTA IV, V, La Noire, RDR 1 and quite a bit more.

@@ameyskulkarni While that is true, GTA3/VC/SA ran on a WAYYY (and i mean extremely) more simplified engine and I did also bring up myself the scope of games back then, even GTAIV and RDR1 aren't comparable to the way games are going now, especially the level Rockstar are taking it. GTA3-VC-SA while they did have notable improvements and changes/additions to each title; they were no where near as innovative or as grand in scale (VC to SA is debatable) as the jump from RDR1 to RDR2 or GTAIV to GTA5. Let's say for example Rockstar wanted to make Bully 2 at this moment, it would at LEAST take a minimum of 4/5 years development, if you're expecting the quality Rockstar have put out consistently. Rockstar knows GTA6 has to meet and even surpass peoples expectations, they literally CAN NOT afford any staff member to be on anything else other than VI, it's just that demanding of a task.

@@Ziddy. Then frankly they should not have done the definitive edition at all in my opinion. If you gotta do something, do it right. Frankly ideally a RE4 type remake would have been great. If not then keep the old games as they were. Let modders fix them. Instead they: 1) Slapped some textures on it. 2) Removed the best things (like fog), breaking people's immersion. 3) had the gall to charge a big price 4) destroyed several fan-made mods along the way (via legal action). They earn enough from GTAO that cashflow wasn't a problem.

Cam The difference is Jobs was very hands on with the process and got extremely involved. Houser for the most part stays in New York and beside the writing has almost has nothing to do with design and how the games come together.

That’s because MOST people grow up and stop playing video games once they become an adult. They look at the games industry like any other grown, responsible and mature adult - it’s a business designed to make money. We live in a day and age where 50%-60% (it seems that way, anyway) of young males don’t want to grow up and move out of their Mommy and Daddy’s house. They just wanna stay at home and do childish crap like play video games all day, which is something you’re supposed to do when you’re a much younger child.

please don't compare GTA 5 with San Andreas. If you actually fully appreciated how good San Andreas was/is then you would see there is really no comparison.

the cool thing about the Houser brothers is that even though they are an grew up in the UK you can tell they are hip hop fanatics just from GTA San Andreas

The way he talks he sounds genuine and you can tell mfrom the games they release and make witha unique style that just stands out. He's not talking some pretentious bollocks like Ken Levine or that guy that made Gears of War.

1997: gta i simple 2d game------->2008: gta iv massive open world game with hd graphics (11 years) 2013: gta v ps3 game-------> 2023: gta v ps3 game remastered (twice) 10 years

Since 2013 we've only had 1 new game because R* would rather milk GTA Online than make anything new. Sam Houser has clearly changed since this interview.
