    I know this video is on the other side, it's 2021, this is got to be one of these best physical and audio demonstrations of a subwoofer I have ever come across on KZread. It doesn't sound like crap and you can actually get a feel for what the speaker sounds like. And I'm on a Samsung tablet listening.

    I know im almost 4 years too late but you really shouldnt have loose polyfill like that in the box, if youre going to use it, you need to glue some sheets to the back wall of the box so it doesnt get trapped into the voice coils of the speaker and burn it up. Hows the speaker holding up so far?

    Rockford Fosgate is awesome, I am a fanboy. They're developed here in Arizona. I have nothing bad to say about them!! Seeing from the wall of shame, It seems like it's not the woofer's that go bad from poor design, but the way you are running them. So if for some reason we see that this RF 8" "failed", I'm not going to blame RF, I'm just going to blame you for not operating this woofer within specs.

  • @JeepAndBass

    @JeepAndBass

    Your point? Btw this sub did fine. All of the failed subs on that wall other than the Polk failed due to age. I'm pretty sure I know how to run subs... I held first place in west coast dB drag championships and 3rd nationally last year. And currently hold first nationally in my class. And for as great as fosgste is they don't quite offer the caliber of equipment needed to maintain my competition standings. I never blamed any company for any failures that occurred. So don't attack my ability to operate equipment based on one video

    @sirtorrance2069

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Jattmexican First of all, I recommend actually searching for the answer yourself, but I will let this one fly... I would say if you are sticking with RF for an amplifier, I would suggest either a PRIME 1200.1D, or POWER T1000.1bdCP. I actually own the PRIME 1200.1D and it throws out sufficient power! But like Steve Meade says... "It takes power to make power" So making sure you have a sufficient amount of everything else is also important.

  • @GhilleGhille

    @GhilleGhille

    7 жыл бұрын

    If I were you I would've got D4 first off so you can wire it to 1 ohm, so now you've thrown out the option for cheaper power and you gotta get 1200w RMS at 2ohms. There is a Pioneer that does 1200 at 1ohm for $179 and it sounds damn good too.

  • @spacecowboy1924

    @spacecowboy1924

    7 жыл бұрын

    GhilleGhille probably the 9601. if I wasn't going all Rockford that would probably be the amp I would go with. either that or the 9605 for 5 channel. installed a bunch of them and if you don't abuse your stuff and know how to wire and tune an amp you shouldn't have problems. most people I see blowing subs usually have the gain set too high and are distorting like crazy. some people don't understand distortion and clipping tho. if it doesn't sound good at listening level then something is wrong

  • @sirtorrance2069

    @sirtorrance2069

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Ty Woodard Return the woofer, describe to RF your situation. Your buddies setup for a JL W3 is probably a lot different then yours. Its all about making power, not the bass. More power = greater amplified signal. Then you need a subwoofer which can handle that power. Also the cabin of the vehicles are probably different, and every space has a resonant frequency which sounds "loudest" played at that frequency. If I have a 8" woofer playing at my cabin's RF... and my friend has an 18" playing at the same frequency in a limo, my 8" is going to sound louder.

  • @spacecowboy1924

    @spacecowboy1924

    Sir Torrance you are very correct. it's all about the box and especially the car that it's in. SUVs hit harder period because the sound just resonates so well from back to front. but they also have space for multiple full sized subs. let's say you have an extended cab truck and all you can put in there are shallow mounts under the back seat without getting rid of some seating space. won't be as great as a single good sub in a decent sized suv. don't get me wrong I've seen some trucks that beat hard as hell, even a Jeep with no top that's one of the loudest I've heard before but it's all about the enclosure and that doesn't mean just the sub box. good info!

    Put's the Polk on the wall of shame, praises Rockford as the better sub. Don't lie you put too much power to that Polk, didn't you? lol I run Polk speakers with Rockford subs. If I had to nitpick these shallows have a lot of motor noise and can't play very low due to the very small cone area. Both brands are great but I should have gone with 2, 12" Polk subwoofers for better sq. Also depends on the box too, slap a Polk in that small of space and your chocking off it's cooling capacity, which explains why it died.

  • @JeepAndBass

    @JeepAndBass

    9 жыл бұрын

    Travis Piper The cooling capacity of the Polk was a joke. I don't lie about anything I do; I have full reasoning behind the failure of the little Polk. Granted it was as in a small sealed box but the Fosgate in the same situation takes more power and stays cooler while doing so. In a head to head comparison in the same box on the same amp the Fosgate has more than doubly out preformed Polk. What is my reasoning? First off, the Polk uses a low quality voice coil glue, it starts to smell and break down quickly showing it's not a high temperature resistant glue like we see on higher end products (the Fosgate for example). Secondly, the voice coil size was small; small coil size = limited surface area for cooling by interaction with the air. Did Polk try to to overcome this no, they just made a cheap consumer product; which is fine but it did not please me for long. Fosgate addresses these issues with their shallows. First thing is the Fosgate has a better engineered cooling system that not only cools the top half of the coil using the pole vent and under spider venting but also uses gap venting to cool the bottom half of the coil where all the heat is mainly focused! Setting aside their cooling ability the shallow uses a larger coil = more surface area for interaction with the air! Also Fosgate uses an aluminum coil former which is a much better heat sink than Polks plastic former. Finally, the glue used on the coil is much more resistant to heat and has never smelled under the conditions I have it under. As far as sound quality goes, the Fosgate wins again in my opinion but I do believe that is to do with how it better favors the box than the Polk did simply because the q value of the Fosgate shows how much more it likes small enclosures than the Polk; despite going with Polk's box recommendations. As for my general opinion on shallows. They cannot be expected to preform the same as a full size subwoofer but that does not necessarily mean what is said about them. Cone area alone does not dictate a subwoofer's ability to produce low end frequencies. I've spent a great deal of time with Sundown Audio's SA-8 and have had it playing just as low as my 12's ever did. It was designed to do that so cone area was no limiting factor. The reasons why shallows don't get low are because they are designed with a high fs (free air response) so they naturally want to play higher notes. That is because they are made to go in small boxes which are always tuned high. Plus why would anyone buy a sub that wasn't going to get loud? Manufactures (especially the cheap ones like Kicker) will design speakers so that they can get loud as possible and not necessarily sound all that good while doing it. The way to get loud it to play higher frequencies. So any smart company will appeal to the average consumer who just wants loud but does not realize all the other factors. Kicker has stated that any frequency under 40hz they believe to be "wasted energy" which is completely bogus if you are into sq at all. But they say that because they shoot to play the loud frequencies. That gets me back to why the shallows are not able to play low, they are not designed to do so because they have a need to get somewhat loud in order to sell and they physically do not get the space needed to do anything else. Sorry for the rant but I figured I'd give a good response. If you want to see a truly good line up of shallows look at Sundown's newest line up, these are some of the only shallows you see that can be tuned low in a ported box. www.sundownaudio.com/index.php/products/subwoofers/item/sd-3-series.html

    JeepAndBass I didn't need a book on what everything is, I got it. ;) Yah, in the right box they stay pretty cool, the glue probably broke down from excessive heat even RF's smell a bit during break-in. The reason though the Rockford worked better in a smaller space (besides better cooling) is the fact that it's designed for small cramped places, but you already know that. Eh, Polk's do look cheap but I don't think they use inferior materials, could use a bit more engineering to compensate for boxes under the recommended ported box size. Yep, I'm looking into sundown as an upgrade the RF shallows aren't as efficient as I'd like them to be due to their stiff suspension. Can't remember what series off the top of my head but the Sundown 10" 500wrms drivers is what I had in mind, along with a 2nd 500w mono RF Prime.
