My niece was a Rockette for three years. She made it on her second audition. Her advice? Really be strong in tap. They line you up by shoulder rather than physical height. She was a tad under 5'6", but they still took her. All of the girls try out every year, but when she made it, there were really only 3 "openings" in her cast of 40. She loved the experience, and I was able to live vicariously through her up on that stage!

I know Stevie! She went to my high school and she knew my choir teacher from middle school! She is who inspired me to audition for the RSI and I made it at the youngest possible age and it was the best experience of my life! Can’t wait to hopefully audition just like her!

Auditions for Rockettes should be international. There should also be some Asians (tall) applicants. Unless they only prefer whites and a couple of blacks.

I SO admire their dedication and hard work ... those leg kicks are the same height every time and their timing is incredible ... this institution and these beautiful, feminine ladies just knock my socks off ...

When my son was young, he tried out to be the boy character in the show. He didn't make it, but it was still one of the most memorable experiences ever. We saw the women auditioning and practicing and even got to go by the wardrobe rooms. It was totally a great day.

I like seeing Australians get that far. I'm Australian and I just like to see Australian people in the arts.

I would kill to do this one day... I can't wait until I'm old enough to just audition! So in awe of everything about them!

I also love seeing fellow Aussies succeed overseas!!! I got to see the Rockette's in December 2016 for the first time and absolutely loved it!!! I hope the show never ends!

I've been auditioning for the RSIs for the last 4 years! It's funny to see the audition room on camera (it feels smaller in person). First of all, anxiety doesn't even begin to describe it, but I always leave the audition feeling glad I put myself through it. All the rockettes and instructors there are strict but very nice and it definitely helps calm down the room. There really is almost no time to learn each routine and they have so many little details they want (head angled like this, hand facing out, leg turned in, hide your elbows, eyes away/towards the audience etc) it does get a bit overwhelming at times but it's an experience I'll never forget!

The heels aren’t hard, a lot of us who have done tap for years are quite used to them from a young age.

I could be a Rockette, I’m 13 and 5’6, but unfortunately I haven’t done tap, jazz, and ballet all my life haha

You're never too old to start dancing! You need to be 18 to audition, but there's no upper age limit. Start taking dance classes now, and hopefully we'll see you at a Rockettes open call soon!
