Wow that’s an amazing SteamPunk Lamp
Nice job on the rocket lamp. Couple of comments though. The lamp fixture is available at home Depot and it comes with half inch threaded holes, which alleviates the need for half three quarter inch adapters. I completed one myself and decided to ground the fixture as it's all metal. The screw you removed is actually the ground screw for a three conductor wire. If any of your hot wires come loose, the entire lamp will be an electrical hazard.

Hey Terry. Thanks for the feedback. I couldn't find the lamp on home depot's site (maybe it not available online?) Can you email me a link? woodified@gmail.com. Thanks

Yes, please list your resources. I'm very interested in building one of these.
This was a great video, thank you! I'll be making one of these as a gift for my son's birthday. It will mean a lot more to him knowing it was made by his "old man". Really enjoyed the sound effects.

That's great I'm glad you liked the sound effects. It was my first time adding precise sound effects. It was a time consuming process but I actually enjoyed editing them to get the timing perfect. Have fun with your build.

Don’t forget earthing like the guy on video, it may kill your son, sorry to say. Or use 12V for your own good. The cover is from steel and he’s got only one layer of insulation, it’s sooo dangerous
Masterpiece!

Omg so neat! I've wanted to build my own steampunk lamps someday 😎

Great video. The only thing I would do different is either get a dimmer bulb for the rocket or just use a small dimmer switch instead of a toggle. Either way.. I think I'll be making one for fun.

A dimmer would be a nice feature.

Awesome! Stupid question though. Do the flame bulbs actually make the engine noise cause none of the other videos of these type of lamps show any noise? They are all silent.
@Woodified
2 жыл бұрын
Not a stupid question. The bulbs do not make any noise. I spent some extra time learning how to edit sound for this video. I think it sounds cool in the video.
For safety, you should have used a strain relief on your cable where it goes into the base, as looking at your cable it looks like two core with no earth and the lamp is all metal so if the live wire comes off and touches the metal body then you could get a shock. I am in the UK, so the electrical law is all metal parts to be earthed for safety, but the lamp looked good, thanks for the video.

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep that in mind on the next lamp. thanks
Great video, however you mounted it differently than the one I built I mounted the lamp box (base hole) to the pipe that is connected to the wood base. that makes the rocket engines on each of the 4 sides of the lamp box.

That's great. Thanks for sharing that you built the lamp.
I've been really wanting to build this type for along time. I have everything & am halfway through wiring. I just have 1 quick question. Is your drawing of the wiring accurate? If so, I'm going for it!! Thanks much
@Woodified

Yes the wiring diagram worked for me. It just took me 3 times to actually wire the lamp per the diagram.
Nice lamp! Went to a glee market and a gentleman was selling one for about 240$!
@Woodified

That sounds like a reasonable price if one was making them to sell.
You use the large nuts to tighten the elbows to stop them turning.

The parts that look like large nuts are reducers. The 3/4 treads down to 1/2.
how did you do the sound effect, great video

I really want to make one for my nephew, but the eletrical part looked a bit confusing. It went from connecting all the white wires to a finish product. May you help me explain your drawing? 😊

I briefly show the drawing in the video. If you pause the video you can make out the wire diagram.
What size hole did you drill for the wire on the side of the wood support and on the top? Thank you
@Woodified

3/8 inch. Big enough for the wire to fit loose in the hole.

Yes figured it out with the help of a neighbor. My main body of the rocket has 1/2” holes so I had to adjust the pieces making the boosters. I am now at the wiring stage and drilling holes for the toggle switches.

Wouldn't it look better if the pipe holding the rocket goes in the middle and you have 4 symmetrical thrusters around 🤔

Cheaper to buy one from eBay for £18.00, plus free postage.

Thanks for sharing. Yes it's cheaper to buy a plastic one than to make your own from metal parts. I found it on Amazon and ebay. It's made from cheap plastic even though the listings (I found on Amazon) said it was made of metal. The tell was when I looked at the listing weight. As a comparison the one I made is 7lbs.
