Entertainment wise nothing beats the scream of a petroleum powered vehicle attacking an obstacle with pure power and speed. However, electric motors (or hydraulic in this case) based at the wheel provide incredible low end torque don’t require a transmission or “Rube Goldberg” style drive line to get power to the wheels. The Hulk was more fun to watch but I have a feeling that as the technology develops (especially vehicle interface), controlled articulation like the spiders design will tackle obstacles that are impossible for reactionary articulation.

I figure a lot of offroaders will hate something like that since its not a "car" which seems to be the case based on some of the comments, and in all honesty that contraption will outperform a standard 'car' based rock crawler no matter what(unless you get points for speed on the easier stuff) simply due to its geometry sorry it pisses you off lol. But take heart knowing that thing probably cant chug down the freeway at 80mph either, atleast not very safely. Keeps reminding me of nasa's design for their rovers

Why are you not using accumulator tanks to give the hydraulics some ability to act as suspension, you can adjust the pressures to carry the load and have some flex

I'm planning on building something like this, with all the above. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I'm a hardware and software dev, so it should be a fun challenge.
