You know a restaurant is going to be lit when it is spelt Spyce with a letter "y" instead of an "i". Spyce Restaurant in Boston lives up to that challenge by presenting the best meal you've ever had untouched by human hands.
Created in 2018 by a team of MIT grads, Spyce Restaurant is described as a culinary experience enhanced by technology. They're not joking about that either, as this robotic kitchen can produce a stunning 300 bowls or food per hour with little stress. In fact, they have gotten a lot of good press from the fact that their Infinite Kitchen performs tasks like
searing proteins, steaming grains, and measuring toppings to create delicious food in less than 3 minutes.
How does this work?
Well, they make use of a series of seven mechanical cooking woks in place of human chefs. These kitchen robots are designed to simultaneously prepare food in less than three minutes. The only time human hands will touch your meal is when the ingredients are getting prepared and during the garnishing of the meal to give it that 5-star restaurant look.
Eating at Spyce Restaurant can be a bit troubling if you aren't technologically savvy, as almost everything is done through technology including placing your order on a touch screen, and the clean up after the meal has been consumed.
The very best part of the restaurant is the auto-cleaning system that consumes 80 percent less water than the average dishwasher in the process, which is extremely kind to Mother Earth and the average meal starts at about 7.50 USD, which is extremely kind to my pockets.

The spinning barrel is in almost every cafeteria in China, I have seen one ten years ago.
I need a home version of this machine, that will prepare all the ingredients as well. Looks like just need a refrigerated whole food and liquid dispenser like a vending machine and a spice dispenser with a blender before the pot.

Spyce got bought out by Sweetgreen and shut down both their locations back in 2021. I miss them - the food was really good and it was fun to see my bowl go down the conveyor belt in their 2.0 configuration of the restaurant after they got rid of the spinning pots.

That's more to do with the risks and leveraging with new businesses rather than the practicality of the automation. We'll see more automation in restaurants, the pandemic was just a time where restaurants without deep pockets simply went out of business, new investments will fill the market niches and scoop up their used equipment at a bargain.

10 prep cooks in the back and 1 guy on the line operating the machines lmao

The prepping might be at a factory plus there are also machines that chop. It's not like fast food restaurants chop their own French fries before frying and we do have frozen chopped vegetables. It's not as if those buns at Subway are delivered as flour, salt, water and yeast individually, the dough comes frozen already in the general shapes desired. Even restaurants only bake par baked bread where 89% of the baking was done at the factory and then shipped frozen. Most bakeries these days also just bake factory par baked breads.
Was Pluto in Aquarius over the next 20 years we will witness the birth and death of technological advancements.
They need to automate the bowls

And in the end it'll be a vending machine. Maybe a drone vending machine that travels door to door, delivering the food it cooks on the way. Of course, then people will vandalize, block it, and ride it while posting videos of doing so on social media...
That says "lost jobs" to me.
Gordon Ramsay truly hates it.
Amazing 👍! And it's so affordable, considering no hired chefs in this kitchen, prep cooks get paid to do that at a much less pay grade. I can see this kind of kitchen in the homes of the future ( seems strange referring to the future when we're all in it already).
$20 minimum wage? No problem...
But does the food taste as good as when a human made it?
Not only you get your tummy filled up but also your eyes and curiosity with amazing technology while prepping your order. Kudos to those MIT grads. ❤❤❤🥘🥘🥘👏👏👏

Yes. They have prep staff. They load the automation with prepackaged and freshly chopped ingredients, and they’re done. The machines do virtually everything else. Why, were you hoping trucks full of broccoli backed up to the door and C3P0 unloaded it, signed the invoice, then switched to prep mode? Or was Scotty supposed to beam it all directly into the pots?

$7.5 for a small bowl of food Seems expensive Good promise. Many chefs are overworked and stressed. This will help them a lot. Won't eliminate jobs but help chef make more food. Like how dishwashing machines help dishwashers. Need home version so i don't have to go out anymore.

😂😂😂, don't you guys heard about preserved meal? 20 years ago restaurant had found ways to cook with just a macrowave oven. These robot is for gimmick only.
Creating food in less than 3 minutes may sound impressive. But… will it create for you this memorable culinary experience that will create the emotional connection needed for you to become a regular customer ? Can robots do this ? Maybe it’s possible… somehow I wish it will never happen. Cooking is an art and eating is an experience that creates emotions.
Could they please invent a machine to push the start button……😂

My family run food business since my grandfather was young. The food industry is real tough, physically demanding on the body. My dad, uncles, aunts made lots of money but their bodies at old age have lots of health problem due to the prolong tiredness of their career - manual labour. I welcome these changes in technology that reduce the effort needed to whip up delicious meal. You will still need a chef to monitor and ensure the food output is still of decent quality. But you now need hire engineers instead of chef to maintain the equipment. I would say this setup would be suitable low cost but high demand for food. Otherwise, if i have to pay a premium for food, i would want a chef to cook it

Automate more. Why have people standing around shuffling bowls and pushing buttons.
If governments focused more on keeping costs of food transport housing power down then low paid workers wouldn’t be desperate for pay rises. Besides I didn’t see it making a burger and fries which is virtually all they eat over there isn’t it?
That's depressing!! Another reason to stay home.

With those idiots making 20Usd the minimum wage without realistic considerations, this will definitely take over.
Perhaps eating out in the future where a human chef actually cooks it would be deemed fine dining only few can afford while the rest is just machine cooked fast food chains. Or would there be a Michelin category for robo-chef? Yet another way to de-skill life.

The instructions on how chefs are supposed to track all possible varieties of orders using plating techniques and a chef handling 4 orders simultaneously honestly this would be an improvement on the stress level of the chef at this point. I find this technology of selecting, collecting, and pooling ingredients into a heated stirring surface to be pretty genius.

So they should be paid 7 dollars an hour when cost of living in most places is above 3000 dollars? The problem is how rich people literally want slaves, if it wasn't illegal then they would have treated every worker like that. Now they found a new system to use robots. Maybe if you think all the staff should be paid less then go on work for them at low cost, they would love to hire idiots like you.

I wanna know what's gonna happen to those in minimum wage jobs and those chefs? For other people its all fun cause it's not worrying them but for those people, their whole life is gone. Never ever would I or any person with actual empathy, should support this type of business. These ceos and rich people who owns these businesses would still list the food at same price but this time they don't have to pay the workers. You all will still pay the same but this time, it will directly go into their pockets benefiting them. This is just gonna create more homeless and jobless people relying on social welfare while rich people becoming richer. Robots, ai are supposed to help us, make our lives more comfortable not take our jobs and make one section of us poor. Minimum wage jobs and many other jobs will be gone and cost of living will still be high. Not long until whole USA is becoming San Francisco, the fall of middle class, because some people at top want low wage slaves.

They won't be paying much for workers but for maintenance of those machines, they will have to pay another kind of workers to keep it maintain and repair if needed, depending on how often these machines will break down or replace. Human are still needed but only switched into paying someone else. Depends how well these works, it may increase production in return saving money or become overly costly to maintain compare to using human.
