Our Ergonomic Partners engineers, fabricators, and robotic teams designed, built, programmed, and automated this robotic welding process for large tanks. This turnkey robotic system uses a Yaskawa high speed 6 axis extended reach welding robot, Yaskawa headstock/tailstock work positioner, Fronius welder, adjustable sliding headstock/tailstock with foot operated pneumatic headstock gripper with lock, torch cleaning with wire cutter, full work cell fencing with laser safety scanner, and has a touch screen kiosk for human machine interface (HMI). The robot uses a servo camera and touch sense to autonomously track the tank seems, joints, feet, holes, fittings, and flanges during and throughout the welding process. Automating this process allowed this welding shop to improve productivity, increase consistent part quality, maintain dependability, and provide worker flexibility and safety.
