I've been waiting for this review, Jamie, as you are the expert of the experts in the quality of your reviews! Nice job, for sure. I have the S7 MaxV ultra and love it. Most of my home is hardwood and some tile. Small carpet in living room and very small one in foyer. You mention doing Vac first and then mop with the S8 - why? I usually vac and mop at same time. What is the benefit of making 2 passes when you can do both at once? I really like the OMO cleaner and use it all the time. I wonder if anyone has tried Bona with the same Dilution Ratio as the OMO cleaner. The S7 does everything I need and more so no upgrading for me. I watch the dirty water bin and empty when less than half full - to eliminate possilble odors (because I do not have the Drying module). Looking forward to your next video.

Thanks June! I really appreciate your kind words and it is people like you that keep me motivated to do more videos! Vacuum motors and water do not mix. Having the brush roller spin and drag on the floor with the vacuum sucking could bring moisture onto your dustbin and start clogging things up which can cause strain on the vacuum motor and if the problem is bad enough like with the iRobot J7 Plus I recently reviewed, water could get past the paper filter and into the motor. Take a look at that video for the perfect example of why vacuuming and mopping is not great to do at the same time. I also find my floors are cleaner with much less streaking when I vacuum first and then mop. I have to admit that I went back to mopping and vacuuming at the same time before this video just out of laziness though. The new retractable roller deck on the S8 Pro makes sure the brush rollers are not contacting the floor in mop only mode. The vacuum motor is also completely off. That makes me want to go back to doing 2 separate cleanings with this new change. I have used Bono before. It is mostly water and not harmful. I still use OMO though with that being said. I wish Roborock would sell me a gallon of it. Thanks again for your support!

Both the S7 MaxV Ultra and S8 Pro Ultra are excellent products. Watching the many reviews such as this one on KZread is a big help in making your decision. Choose the model that works best for your home and suits your budget. I selected the S7 since my home is largely wooden floors and we have no dogs or cats. After one week, I'm more than pleased with it. I had to call Roborock's help desk with two minor questions. They were eager to help and provided the information I needed. In my opinion, Roborock is the best in the field. You can't go wrong with either choice.

Maybe it should just be marketed as a solution for pet owners? That is not unheard of in the vacuum industry. It is actually quite common.

@@jamie.andrews Yeah that is most likely something that can be fixed with software. They usually update software quite frequently so should not take too long if it's possible.

One thing to note, from someone who also has both the S7 MaxV Ultra and S8 Pro Ultra. I did have one gripe with the S7's object avoidance system. Reflections on certain parts of my floor would actually cause the S7 to think there was something in the way and even though it would come at it from a different angle it wouldn't ever correct itself regarding that "obstacle." I've ran the S8 through the same areas with those reflections and it didn't hesitate or assign an obstacle. Note: the S7 is seeing the reflection of cabinets on the floor and reflections of the sun on the floor and still sees them as the date of this comment. So perhaps the downgrade of the camera might have made it less sensitive to seeing false obstacles. Also, I have previously had to have transparent tape covering the cliff sensors on my S7 MaxV so it wasn't confused with complex carpet designs (aka Persian rug). The S8 doesn't have that problem. Since I moved the S7 downstairs and cleaned it up for that task, it doesn't appear to have this problem anymore, for me at least, perhaps there was a firmware update that I wasn't aware of (I have auto-updates active) that fixed this issue. For a little context, I've had the S7 MaxV Ultra on the main floor of the house since Nov of 22 and haven't used it at all in the basement. So now that I have the S8 Pro Ultra, the S7 MaxV Ultra has been moved downstairs. Overall I've been very pleased with both. It is great when the company Roborock can utilize feedback to improve its products. This shows they have a lot of passion and care about it!

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences. My S7 MaxV would do that when I first got it, but not much anymore. It was my tile pattern that would fool it. I saw the S8 Pro do it a few times, but not enough to make it in the video as a potential issue. I am working with Roborock to help resolve these issues. The great news is Roborock does work to quickly fix many of these.

Thank you for your work and the in depth review. Awesome! I've been a roborock user starting with the s5, 4-5 years ago, switched to s5 max, s6 pure, but now I am still rocking two s6 MaxV's. I've been thinking to upgrade, but to be honest, in my scenario, in which I still mop with a standard mop, the self vacuuming dock is not worth it. Also, I do agree that the removing the camera was indeed a downgrade on the s8 platform.

Both are great robots. I did a comparison video between Ultra Robots and if you have not seen it you may want to take a look. Both have their issues, but I am very fond of the detergent injection system and removable mopping plates on the L10s. There have been a few reports from users having problems with the L10s pumping water out of the dock when new. Good job! Roborock seems to have peaked out. They do have the best robots at present, but there are more than a few indications they have lost ground as they've tried to cut corners. Amazon should take note - If you add LIDAR intelligently, you should easily be able to retake the lead as the premiere robot vacuum company. Roborock still doesn't have sensors that indicate when the dust bin is full. Their AI is failing. And Roborock is going backward as far as removable replaceable parts are concerned. Mistakes like these are what competitors love to see.

Thanks! They are making changes which is good, but I do feel some of those changes are ones nobody asked for and are also considered by many as a step backward. The dustbin full sensor is another iRobot patent and the reason no other robot has it. I am not certain when that patent is up. Thanks for the support!

Great review! I have a question though.. does the integrated water tank get slimey? I was hoping to be able to clean it once a while and a little concerned about eventually making the tank moldy. I guess we should use specificly how can I say, 'pure h2o' (not filtered, drinking or tap water) but I'm afraid I might not find it economically. Thank you a lot!

For me I have never expieranced slime in my tanks, but that is because of my water quality and has nothing to do with the robot. If you get slime I would suggest switching to a filtered water source. You could also try a silver ion block which fits in the clean water tank. You can find them on Amazon. amzn.to/44KMTsv

You can schedule it to go back to the dock to have the mop washed in the middle of a mop job. You can select between 10 and 50 minutes.

Hi Jamie, thank you for the rev, your channel is now my first go-to as I am researching for my first bot. I am now down to S8 Pro Ultra and L20 Ultra…. I have considered Q Revo before but sadly it is not available in my region. Which one in your experience is better? I read some reviews that the S8 Pro Ultra performs well on carpet only when it is on the max mode - which is noisy and depletes battery quickly. On other code the vacuum on carpet is not good. I am slightly worried about this as half of my house is carpet. I could not find much on the L20 side (though obviously I watched your L20 review). Thank you so much!

First off thanks for the support! The L20 is a fantastic robot that has more bells and whistles than the S8 Pro and better object avoidance. The S8 Pro Ultra has Roborock's reliability, excellant flawless app, navigation and good gereral overall experience. Which is better? That depends on your budget and needs. I plan on doing a head to head with these 2 plus the Ecovacs X2 OMNI in December.

Wow really looking forward to that head-to-head comparison. If by any chance you could include some comments or tests about their vacuum performance on medium strength suction modes (which I suspect many people will be using in real life to vacuum), that will be highly appreciated.

@@michelleliang3503 Thanks for the suggestion. I have struggled with whether or not to include other power suction levels in my tests. There are a few issues with it. 1. Medium suction level is different for every robot so setting each one to medium instead of their very highest setting would mean direct comparisons between the robots would be certainly invalid. 2. I could do it as a second set of tests but that would mean doubling the amount of tests I run. Currently for each test you see I run them 2-3 times and go with the best result. As you can imagine that is a bunch of time and work so I have settled with testing their very best efforts on high power. I have the same issue with the mopping test too. I am open to hearing your thoughts if you have any more.

That way you may see whether audiences are interested in these comparisons (in an indirect way like you said, not really Apple to Apple), or people like me could benefit from their sharing and get some insights even if no comparison could be done in a fair way. I have s8 ultra. It definitely will hit and eat cords. I had it twice cross cords and roll up in rubber rollers and fault out. The app has no feature to vac only. The mop will always drop down and get dirty with dust fines. Now you have to remove mop pad and clean it periodically. If you have skirts on you bed or furniture this robot will not pass thru skirt and clean under furniture or bed. Same goes for curtains that hang down to floor. The competitors robot is not stopped by skirts or curtains so it gets to those areas

If you look at 06:10 in my video you will see the option to select the vacuum only which should help you out a bit. Cords are a bigger problem with 2 rollers for sure. The curtains look like a solid wall to the lidar so any system with a lidar on top will have this same issue. Irobot and Yeedi use a camera based system which may clean behind curtains and bed spreads, but come with other less than ideal navigation problems.

I am still debating between s7 and s8. One biggest concern is that my wife wants the large carpet in the living room to be cleaned, we don't have pet, it is only the hair. Currently we have the regular s7 and it cannot get the work done. So which one you would recommend, S7 max V or S8?

If the S7 can't get it done there is a good chance the S7 MaxV might not be able to either. It does surprise me the S7 can't handle that though. Give the S8 a shot.

I have the S7 MaxV Ultra and the main problem is having to move rugs (light rugs) before cleaning to avoid it getting trapped in the rug. Would the S8 handle that better?

I have not tested that officially, but I still have to pick up my small rugs in my house with this one.

As you have tiled floors, is the robot able to properly clean the grout? This is one area where the Q Revo might have an advantage. Any comments? Thanks!

I have not really seen a robot be able to clean my grout. They just don't have thick enough pads to get down in the grout. I use the Dreame H12 Pro for that.

Always a little frustrating when the upgraded new model includes some downgrades! Not unique to Roborock unfortunately. The video feed on the S7 has come in quite handy in my experience for remote monitoring and even when it gets stuck to see how to free it by maneuvering it while I’m at work. The ability to remove the water bin also helps with mold in the tank inspection and removal. What a great unit the S8 could have been without the downgrades! Just someone who likes to write it as he sees it!

I am expecting there could be a MaxV version released later that might have the old Reactive AI, but I have no concrete evidence on this. Not sure that they would go back to a removable mopping plate and water tank though.

Hi Jamie, when the S8 is charging in the Ultra dock. Does it makes a noise (like a fan)? If yes, is it because it’s a fast charge? Is it correct that the Q Revo is silent while charging?

You really should not use it for large spills since the mopping pad is just a thin cloth with little ability to absorb spills. For that take a close look at the Roborock Dyad Pro which I have reviewed on my channel.

I was thinking about non-removable tank by dropping a few drops of bacteria killer like Lysol Sanitizer ,,,it should take care the mole infestation anywhere!! I am now waiting until the hefty discount for this S8 Pro Ultra!! like $1199 should be the right price/right time to get ịt and/or some fixes might be found for the first batches!

@@jamie.andrews I'm not sure but I use both modes. I've moved into a new apartment that didn't have noticeable scratches on the floor. However, I started to notice quite a few long scratches after using S8 Pro Ultra for a week... I'll do more testing in next few days and let you know if I find anything interesting.

Why do these things detect pet waste then get so close? If anything, I’d make it send a notification and then skip that room entirely.

i think they've changed from the rubber side brush due to the rubber blade things getting wrapped around carpet fibers, and hard to untangle... that's just my theory though.
