the funny thing is....this is something that they were kind of setting up in the remake. What happens when the tech responsible for Robocop..originally intended for medical purposes...hits the open market? or more precicely..the black market? you really thing the yakuza wouldn't fund their own cyborg? or the russian mob? italians, even? probably not as worried about keeping the brain animating the body SANE, either, given what they would want them for.

It's a combination of the rough script having some bright spots if it had time and money plus being able to laugh at how bad it is. The remake had more than double the budget even counting inflation but never had memorable scenes despite having the first movie to copy and CGI beyond the wildest dreams of anyone in the 90's.
@SonateSonate

The scene where Murphy is shown what's left of his body is memorable.
@fear5735

Anyone that followed the politics of the movie. It's a better sequel than two. In the first we witness the horror of a man trapped in a machine's body struggling to find his own identity. In the second we... watch a drug dealer. In this entry we watch Corporatism in full effect with lobbying in full allowing not one but two corporations claim and lay waste to a city in chaos. RoboCop 3 is better than 2 and the new game canonizes it.

He had been interested in it, but had already committed to Naked Lunch (weird movie, check it out sometime). He did show up on set and talked with the director, which made the transition easier. It's a combination of the rough script having some bright spots if it had time and money plus being able to laugh at how bad it is. The remake had more than double the budget even counting inflation but never had memorable scenes despite having the first movie to copy and CGI beyond the wildest dreams of anyone in the 90's.
@SonateSonate

@fear5735

"in 15 seconds everything within 5 seconds jog will be atomized, so I better just stand here"
Going by this AI made clip it's a good job nobody produced a third RoboCop movie in the 90s, it might have worked out so bad that people would spend the next thirty years denying its existence.

He had been interested in it, but had already committed to Naked Lunch (weird movie, check it out sometime). He did show up on set and talked with the director, which made the transition easier. Not sure if the movie would have been much better with him in it, but at least he'd be a lot more comfortable in the RoboCop gear than Burke was (well, as much as possible with the suit), since they didn't make a new one for the new actor.
