Robin Hood The Movie (Rare 1991 Movie)

A movie practically lost, however made from from select episodes from the 1950s series staring Richard Greene as Robin Hood. I do not own this movie and no copyright infringement is intended.

Television gave the children of the 1950’s their first view of a weekly Robin Hood show. Errol Flynn had done him in the movies but movies didn’t come so easily to TV like they do today. So RIchard Greene became a hero to millions of people. He appeared in other films but this role is what he is remembered for. He was inspiring. If you were a kid in the 1950’s and you heard that voice, you knew it. Another famous hero’s voice from this time period was George Reeves as Superman. Our hero’s back then set an example. Fess Parker speaking as Davy Crockett also exerted a strong influence on America’s youth during this same time period. You remember these historical figures all your life. When these programs are shown again after all these years, it makes you stop and think. We’re they right in what they did for others. Remember Achilles from the Trojan War. The gods offered him a choice. Live through the war and die in your old age as a little remembered king in your country. Or die now in the Trojan War, a great hero remembered for ten thousand years. If you’ve seen the movie, you know which one he picked. Is a man’s reputation that all consumingly important. There are many surprising hero’s in our modern times who fought more bravely with words than with weapons of war on the world’s stage. We remember their actions and speeches. Great leaders like Ghandi, Franklin D.Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and John F. Kennedy. It depends what each generation thinks. As time passes and you don’t see others with visions of peace and unity, who can inspire their nations, you realize how few good men there really were passing through your lifetime.

I read about Robin Hood in English readers as a child at school and have never looked back since. He will always be my hero no matter how many various tales about him appear on TV and cinema. The screens brings him alive so that once again I can refresh myself to all the adventure of him and his merry men while they out maneuver the plans of the vile Sherrif to capture him.The ideals that he stood for make him a lasting hero to one and all. There is a huge appeal in his stories to all those who love fair play, truth and justice and will just about accept any challenge to safeguard it and win.

Agree. Although, Bernadette O'Farrell, Alan Wheatley & Alexander Gauge are also perfect in their roles as the Lady Marian, the Sherriff & Friar Tuck respectively. I always thought Bernadette's Lady Marian made Richard Greene's Robin seem more noble, brave & chivalrous somehow while Alan Wheatley's portrayal of the Sherriff made him seem more heroic, decent & upstanding. In fact the entire cast is outstanding.

What a fantastic show & cast. Bernadette O'Farrell is a delight as Lady Marian, such great presence, beauty, dignity, poise & speaking voice. Many fans believe her the best Maid Marian ever. Always courageous, loyal, clever, heroic, kind & noble. A brilliant archer, horsewoman & spy & always a real lady. Lady Marian saves Robin (or his men) as often as they save her & she makes ingenious plans for the band. You can see why Robin falls in love with her. Bernadette was a huge fan favorite in the 1950s. When departing the show, thousands of fans wrote to her begging her to stay. Patricia Driscoll who replaced her as Maid Marian was also excellent in the role. However, no one could replace Bernadette completely, as she had made the role her own. Likewise, Alan Wheatley is perfect as the Sherriff. His Sherriff is delightfully villainous & dastardly, a cunning opponent & always a deadly threat to Robin & his men. However, he also retains a vestige of humanity & decency. He might even have the best line in the show (at 1 hour, 15 mins & 20 seconds) when he says "Marian, I claim to be no better than the evil times in which we live, but I'm no worse. Would marriage to me be so harsh a sentence?" And Alexander Gauge is a great treat as Friar Tuck. He is witty, friendly, kind, courageous, loyal, honest & learned but ever on the lookout for good food & drink. His timing, cadence & delivery of his lines are tremendous. Richard Greene's portrayal of Robin Hood is also wonderful, perhaps perfect, as many comments here attest.

This is a movie made by stitching a bunch of episodes of the 50's series together and ruin them with awful stock audio design that doesn't fit with the original series and sounds way crisper than the original audio which is super jarring, by far not the best way to watch the series. Tho it is kinda cool how they colorized it even if it makes it look kinda cheap unfortunately but all the edits feel really cheap.

It lead me into doing archery for many many years. I was forced to quit in my 60's, but I could place 6 arrows in the center, and wrap my fingers around the whole bunch, after the 6th arrow was shot. I have also made robin hood shots over the years as well. My family is of Welsh descent, and I also bare the names Richard Lawrence from my birth. I maybe getting old, and my eyes are not as good as they once were, but I'll still bet anyone, that I can still hit very close to a mark on any tree 6 inches wide. I started archery in my teenage years, and completed as well. This is why I treasure this movie. Thanks to You Tube, I can still go back in time, and watch many a Robin Hood program, as well as the movie, with Richard Greene as Robin Hood..

This was my favorite TV show at this time. At the start there were only 3 or 4 TV's on the whole estate, I used to watch it 2 doors down, it always seemed like every maile kid was present to watch Robin Hood on their 10" B&W TV. When they bought 12" colour TV all the older teenagers were inside trying to help, until they were all kicked out. Wow, it was incredible seeing the show in colour.

Gene Autry was that goomer who killed all those feathered Indians with a pair of Six-shooters. Without ever having to reload. A hell of a feat for a Texan!

AH YES - "Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen...." - tried never to miss any (of the Richard Greene) episodes back in the early '70s - rousing theme; bad buys; good guys; plotting ladies; derring-do; archery-action; happy ending! - what's not to love? Then Maid Marion went on to advertise Ribena. Fun! Thanx for uploading - very enjoyable.

A bit simplistic in comparison to today's action hero movies, and refreshingly so. A shame that the last bit was put there out of sequence when the tv series has Will dying much closer to the beginning. Still, the scene where Robin smashes the sword is a great bridge to further " chapters ". And yes, Richard Greene, the one true Robin Hood. Thanks for posting.

This ran before I was born, and until the mid-70s, my family usually didn't have a working TV...so I don't know why I have the theme stuck in my head--I haven't even started the video, but it's in my head anyway. Obviously, I saw it enough for me to memorize the theme, the same way I can remember the themes to Davy Crockett and Swamp Fox. Can't remember a thing about any of those shows, except for the themes. **Come to think of it, I probably know the themes from my parents' record collection--at least a couple of them were on 45s.

Wonderful in its way. It is interesting that they did show Will Scarlet in this production. Will Scarlet was actually the leader of the Sherwood men while Locksley known as 'Robin Hood' as a cover name in the Sherwood group only came along later after the Sherwood group was already established. That is the real historical reality and they show it in this production. And also, if you know who Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid are, you know who Will Scarlet and Robin Hood were.
