It was a great fight. Could have gone to both. What is strange is that no one talks about Dricus' kicks. There were more than couple really hard ones. Sean got gassed because of body kicks and pressure. Btw big fan of you, Rob. My fav fighter for a long time now. Always rooting for you and hopefully that MW belt becomes yours again.

Almost every one of those leg kicks were checked (where he lifts his leg and creates shin on shin contact.) It hurts the kicker more than the one getting kicked.

What’s actually strange is how nobody talking about how DDP had over a hundred misses while Sean had very few. Sean was making him miss and look bad throughout the fight. I guess misses don’t count apparently DDP was being more “active”. Sure the rounds were close but the fight was not. 99-55 significant strikes for Sean. GGs

@Beebersky821 he did yeah. I Mean not taking anything away from Strickland. That jab has the precision of an online warzone aimbotter and uts lighting fast but he wasn't stopping ddp. And ddp hit harder. Much more power and Sean bled ddp had a blue eye, but to us that's just load shedding, we used to fighting in the dark. Lol

DDP was a mess at the end. Sean other than a cut was fine. Sean was in control the whole fight. He got up from all the take downs. I think it was close but I think Sean won. One judge agreed

I don’t understand how people think DDP did more damage when his face looks like he was mauled by a beehive and is in a boot whereas Strickland only has stitches above his eye and is installing air conditioners on a ladder the next day.

Rob giving props to DDP is part of why everybody respects Rob so much. I thought DDP won 2/3/4 personally, maybe i'll rewatch the fight and see if my opinion changes but it certainly wasn't a robbery. Eric Nicksick literally said after the fight that optics won DDP the fight, particularly in R3 and i agree with him. In 2/3/4 which were the most contested rounds DDP was the aggressor, putting way more into his shots and it swung those close rounds for him.

Sean’s shots were much harder, they sounded like a baseball bat hitting a car every time he landed lol. Watch it and ignore the commentary talking about how Dricus was getting “closer” to landing his overhand in round 2 because the only difference from rounds 1 and 2 was Dricus in round 1 was missing by a mile and in round 2 was missing by just inches but produced the same results which was he was hitting nothing air. Strickland won, Rob is just saying Dricus won because Dricus beat him.

The jabs for Strickland did more damage than the overhand rights of DDP. Just look at their faces, excluding the head bunt.

Wasn't caused by a head butt. The right hand caused the cut initial and then the elbow afterwards made it worse. This headbutt narrative is such a cop out

I think a lot of people just saw Dricus's face and assumed he took more damage. But honestly a swollen eye or a red cheek is not that high on the damage scale. Marks on the face can even be influenced by skin color, blood vessel density, etc. You can get a more visible mark from a leather belt than from a closed fist. I don't quite get the "look what his jab did to his face" argument. By that logic body shots don't count unless they leave a big mark on the ribs?

This is the best breakdown video of the ufc 297 fight . DDP didnt land many shots but still he never gave up he kept moving forward and switching styles and not just going for the head doing some body shots and leg kicks .strickland mostly did jabs and here and there kicks .. the last round he gave some more moves .. congrats to DDP and penigton Much respect for you rob and jonny🤘

Yo Rob and Johnny, good to see you lads back after the new year! To answer Rob's question about Dragon's Dogma, I'd definitely recommend playing it if you want to, gameplay is super fun and the final boss is a blast to fight, although honestly the story isn't that great. Didn't take me too long to finish either although there's a bunch of post game content I didn't play very much of. Hope this helped and good luck on the camp for Costa!

My reply to @ThaWeasle 's breakdown: IF YOU'RE WRONG, Weasle, you're wrong because Strickland is very hard to hit clean, and because his jabs are actually medium strikes, often, rather than light ones (as Dricus admitted); and because you should count a checked leg kick as a strike on the part of the checker. Everyone says that shit hurts and discourages further leg kicks. I'll give you the body kicks, most if not all of them. But, watching the fight, my overall impression is that, for every strike Dricus hit Sean with, the latter was already rolling with it, blocking it, and tiring Dricus out by making him throw a lot of big shots that didn't land. A strike landed on Du Plessis is not the same as one "landed" on Strickland, and so should not be counted the same. And if body kicks count for damage based on tiring the opponent out later in the fight, then so do Strickland's blocks. The commentators seemed to be exaggerating Dricus's strikes throughout the entire fight, and never once pointed out how hard Sean is to hit clean--which may be biasing your own view, Weasle. My frustration with the commentating, likewise, might be biasing my view here--so I'm not sure you're wrong, and generally trust your "robbery" fight breakdowns. FWIW, Joe Rogan and crew thought Strickland won the fight as well. Politically, a Dricus-Izzy fight is worth more $$ than another Strickland-Izzy fight....I think. They can play Izzy's racism card, there, get the casuals really worked up enough to turn out in numbers. Whereas Sean just beats Izzy once again the same exact way he beat him the first time, kinda boring, makes Izzy look pathetic rather than an anti-racism hero...So a pro-Dricus bias makes sense in terms of profits.

Well this is not an immediate rematch DDP and Sean fought for it first 😉 plus Izzy and DDP should have happened before Sean snuck in. So it's completely different. Sean beat one top 5 guy in his life he doesn't deserve a rematch and his attitude afterwards sucks the guy is just crying and making excuses. He has two options wait and hope he can fight DDP after he beats Izzy or fight a contender to cement himself as the rematch. All in all khamzat will probably get the title shot which sucks but he was promised it.

The Octagon Rules are based on *"EFFECTIVE striking."* Dricus missed most of the punches he threw, which counts in Sean's favor. Moving forward and shadowboxing amounts to nothing (Maycee Barber). Missing is the opposite of effective. Octagon Rules are based on *"EFFECTIVE grappling."* Sean got up immediately after 3 of the 4 Take-downs. *Being unable to keep your opponent on the ground is the opposite of "effective grappling."* Sean should've won based on his offense being more effective than Dricus' which is evident by the *DAMAGE* shown on DDP's face!

Takedowns aren't worth shit unless damage is done. Dricus did not damage with those takedowns, couldn't even hold Sean down for any length of time.

Watched it a couple of times myself. At first I thought Dricus won, but then Strickland and then Dricus again. He had cage control and was pushing forward. It was super tight but DDP won

Yes, rewatched more closely and felt Sean did more damage and significant strikes. Dricus looked wild with a lot of looping shots and movement, not to mention takedowns, but, still it did appear Sean edged it and for a champ, it's unfortunate that they didn't really make Dricus TAKE it...think of some past Izzy fights that he squeeked...

Rob is just saying DDP won b/c he lost to him and if he says Sean beat DDP that means Sean is better than Rob. So it’s a biased answer. All good tho Rob. Good luck vs Acosta.
