Robert Thurman on Donald Trump possibly being the reincarnation of a generous and kind soul.

Robert Thurman was possibly the first Westerner to become a Tibetan monk, and certainly one of the leading scholars in Buddhism and Comparative Religions. On a recent visit to his home in Woodstock I asked him who had reincarnated on Trump, perhaps waiting to hear what I wanted to hear, what I though was the obvious answer to my question. However, his reply was clever, ingenious and constructive, and true to the spirit of a true enlightened and wise individual such as Robert Thurman. There is much more filmed on that day, let this brief intervention be just a sample of what’s coming soon. The sequence was filmed as part of a biographical film on German innovator and visionary Ludwig Kuttner.

The American Buddhist echo chamber is reflected in this crazy speach. Actually, anti-abortion Republicans are closer to Buddha's teachings than the extremists in the democratic party. One could say the core of Buddha's teaching is the sacredness and protection due all life. Like someone else here said, you got it all wrong. Also, this shows a lack of thinking for himself, like many Tibetan Buddhists surrounded by leftists. It is truly discouraging watching most American Tibetan Buddhists distort the Buddha's teachings for their political goals which are actually their first and primary religion.

Yes, in Indic faiths, it is said that you can take re-birth as any type of a living being (animal, human etc.) vastly depending on your karma of previous life. This cycle continuous and hence it is said to have follow good ideals so you take birth as a human being and open yourself to the possibility of nirvana (salvation or enlightenment)

You're correct. But then 'this' isn't Buddhism. Or really representative of any of what my people once believed. Don't make the mistake of mixing their western mental illness or an attempt at appropriating our culture to suit their narratives, with anything close to 'truth'. Donald Trump and Stephen Bannon, have helped so many here. Precisely because people like this and supposed 'psychiatrists' are so laughably wrong - it defies belief. Hold to your own views. For what are experiences, other than those you actually live yourselves? When I was a little girl, I knew Donald to be generous. A bully? Hm. People see what they want to see. Remember that one.

As a soul/higher self Trump is unevolved. His manta is $$$$$$$$ which brings material power. He is totally personality orientated and does not live an ethical life concerned with the greater good for the world. An advanced soul would never act in this way.

Robert Thurman proved to me that in some cases Buddhism can't teach a person anything. How do you know all these things, Bod. Who made you able to see people's minds, because I don't thing you do. I studied Dzogchen for 50 years. You seem to have a very conventional outlook. I wonder if you even understand the concept of Open View (Right View) of the Noble Eightfold Path. I say this as a student of the Vidyadhara Chogyam Trungpa. You really sound like didn't have an open mind about Trump at all, although I guess you worked at it. I don't want to invent fairy tales about his mind, I want to see what he does. The second president besides Carter not to start a war and expressing hate for it. You guys had it all wrong, and that includes the Dalai Lama who talked about Trump's comments about putting America first as egotistical. And here I thought that a leader of country is supposed to put his country first. After all, a President is not a Cakravartin.

@@ttselha64 And you actually think that Bob Thurman's opinions about somebody he doesn't know is Dzogchen. There's an old proverb that you need to eat a sack of salt with someone before you know them. Lack of arrogance concerning one's opinion of others is basic Buddhism, so I am not so sure about your understanding. Buddhists have to go beyond their conceptual prejudices, and that is what is see when people come up with a lot of opinions about others. I am glad to respond but actually I don't care what you think I understand. Dzogchen is not exactly merely a matter of understanding but direct transmission of non-conceptual wisdom. We also have to appreciate conventional reality. A leader of a country has the responsibility to care for his/her country first. It's too bad that so many Buddhists are turning into ideologues. Who cares about their opinions.
