Robert Redford Interview: Behind the Scenes of All the President's Men

Фильм және анимация

Robert Redford discusses how Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein being polar opposites having to work together is what initially interested him about the Watergate scandal and how that led him to Ben Bradlee. Redford discusses making All The President’s Men, its documentary-like quality, and how it was a chance to do a film about journalism, and not Richard Nixon. He explores the tension that exists between the press, the entertainment industry, and politics, and the value of knowing “what’s the story.”
Robert Redford is an actor and director who was born in Santa Monica, California on August 18, 1936. Redford was a gifted athlete that received a baseball scholarship to the University of Colorado, but quickly left school. He went to Europe to fulfill his ambition to be a painter and spent 13 months painting and studying in Paris. He returned to the U.S. and enrolled as an art student in New York. After time at the Pratt Institute of Art, he was taught acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. By the end of 1960 he was on Broadway in a series of plays including Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park. He has starred in classic films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), The Candidate (1972), The Way We Were (1973), The Sting (1973), All the President’s Men (1976), and The Natural (1984). He has found success in producing and directing, winning an Oscar for Ordinary People (1980) and receiving both directing and best picture nods for Quiz Show (1994). In 1978 Redford also helped start the Sundance Film Festival, which has grown into one of the movie industry's most prestigious events. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognized his contributions to the medium in 2001 with an honorary award for serving as an "inspiration to independent and innovative filmmakers everywhere." In 2016, Redford was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama.
From the HBO / Kunhardt Film Foundation (KFF) Documentary “The Newspaperman: The Life and Times of Ben Bradlee,” about one of America's most influential and celebrated newspaper editors, who found himself at the center of many of the 20th Century's most seismic storms, including: World War II, John F. Kennedy, Watergate and the fall of Richard Nixon.

There are very good reasons why Bob Redford has been and still is very popular and it is not just his good looks. He is extremely well read, objective, humble and curious which makes him a very interesting and intelligent person to listen to. His acting stands alone, he is one of the best of all time. People want to see him and hear him because he is compelling and not "full of himself". I wish someone would ask him about 3 days of the Condor, which is one of his best movies with Faye Dunaway co-starring and John Houseman in the cast, but the interviewers never ask. He is a unique "national treasure"!

But the man probably still supports Biden, a shell of a man. Please don't misunderstand me. I will hold my nose and vote trump, but Robert Redford is an ideologue.

It's clear watching this that Redford still has much to offer the world. He's an Oscar winning director. He needs to make another movie or three.

Ah still so good looking - that rugged look - even as you got older -why have plastic surgery? 😢 A stunning actor - watched most of his movies. I watched :Out of Africa' 3 times!! AND could still look at clips. He and Meryl Streep were absolutely stunning together.

This is why I like 60 minutes. The show presents solid, investigated stories. No doubt, crimes like "Watergate breakin" could never be swept under the rug with professional investigative journalist employed by 60 minutes exhausting all resources to expose the real story.

Did he attend his 2024 Sundance Festival. His vision for the festival exceeded his dreams, a dream that began over 40 years past. By example, he’s shown all people what, possible, means. It’s a no-brainer that, possible, is his favorite word. He’s gifted a life long example back, to all. No person excluded. All people now have an equal chance, to fulfill their dreams, with anything to do with the arts of filmmaking. Never at anyone’s privilege, never for the gain of himself or his family….. not even past a past relationship. With him at the helm, No Relationship to him is ever was given a chance over anyone else more deserving. He is as humble, unchanged. I hope the new curators of films shown will not go Against His Dream. As…….If any film gets shown by a relation of his, it has Not gotten any approval from him. It would be due to someone new, going against Robert’s beliefs.Period. Robert Redford’s dreams and rules for the Sundance Film Festival, state clearly………He has continually stated, must go through the same process. Anyone saying otherwise, is shooting hot air in your face. Wherever he is, may the sun shine upon his back forever. Hopefully, he too, is enjoying this years Sundance Festival as all people, now worldwide, who wish to partake. Thanks RR 😊😊
