Ben Sadie's acting in this film is phenomenal for a guy who is mostly a director. He matches Pattinson (a world class actor) beat for beat in the film. I hope these guys just continue to wow with their films for years to come

@Parker Cherry I respectfully disagree. I find Uncut Gems much better paced, with he anxiety factor very deliberate in execution. The movies main character was much more fleshed out and realized in comparison to Connie. Not that Connie was underdeveloped, I just felt Ratner had much more reasons for why he did the things he did. You're right, the anxiety of it is for sure alienating a large portion of the audience, but it's so potent, powerful, real and present within their universe. When a film makes me feel scared for someone else, the writing is for sure on point.

I agree. Also Pattinson’s NYC accent was better than Sandler’s. I know Sandler is from NY but he hammed it up way too much. The only other non American actor that can do a great NY accent is Colin Farrell in Pride and Glory. Sometimes I can’t believe how bad Tom Holland’s NYC accent is but maybe I’m just particular bc I’m from there.

I think the only real comparison between Taxi Driver and Good Time is that it's New York at night. They're both extremely gritty films, but in completely different ways. If you have to compare it to a Scorsese film the aptest comparison would be Mean Streets. Taxi Driver deals way more with generational themes like PTSD, the boom of the porn industry, rampant urban crime, and virtue. Mean Streets is less excessively nihilistic and more focused on smalltime crooks making stupid mistakes. I watched Good Time and Mean Streets through the same lens: the main character's actions will catch up with him. No matter how many people Connie lies to, beats up, abuses or charms, his actions inevitably catch up with him. The same with Johnny Boy: he spends the movie being basically "in charge" of every situation he finds himself in, until the penultimate scene where the universe has basically decided that it's time for him to pay. anyway you probably havent seen mean streets fuck you

Literally a perfect movie with perfect performances and a perfect screenplay. Even stuff like the dude taking the painkillers more than once. Like, in so many movies things happen - like someone taking painkillers - and then that's it. It's never shown or mentioned again. There were so many small, nice touches like that which elevated the film above the great movie it would've been has there not been such attention to detail.

The way they talk about the character development and the amount of detail that they put in the story before the audience even gets a glimpse of the characters just goes to show the effort that the directors went through to make the story look natural. The movie gives the illusion that this is happening right in New York right now. All the respect to the directors I hope I can enjoy another masterpiece by you guys after uncut gems. I can’t wait!

Movie is interesting. Like a light version of the movie “Requiem for a Dream”. (2000). Very tough film . Who feels that there is something similar between those 2 movies?

Ive been so traumatized with Robert Patterson performance in Twilight i swore him off as a terrible actor. 1st film ive seen with him and i was impressed. Benny's performance really impressed me too! Had to look for an interview of him cause i needed to see how he really spoke!

Robert is so modest. He seats behind those two crazy-energized brothers-directors. They talk all the time and needs to learn how to slave they egos. Ask Rob.

They’re talented, interesting film makers who are receiving well-deserved mainstream recognition. Let them enjoy themselves. Robert has clearly been through the motions with that whole media world and nothing about it phases him anymore... it’s simply part of the job for him.

I might be in a minority here, I absolutely love their films good time and uncut gems are pretty fucking great but I don't like their score in either films. I get what it's supposed to be but come on it can be better. It's the only thing I don't like about their films
