Every so often an actor finds a character that becomes his. Robert Newton always gave wonderful performances but will always be significantly remembered for his “Long John Silver” pirate and his very own “Arrrrrh Jim Lad”. Another remarkable part was as “Bill Sykes” in the David Lean Directed 1947 made (1949 released) version of Charles Dickens “Oliver Twist.” Incidentally Syke’s dog “Bullseye” is incredible . Long live the memory of a fabulous actor ROBERT NEWTON.

One of my favorite Brit actors. Not only his movies but he does live in talk like a Pirate day. 😃 He was wanted for around the world in 80 days but he had to remain sober. He did that too without acting. As the Irish say.. He was a good lad but he had the failing..

Just one comment when I input this. So sad, as this guy was an actor in the tradition of a Charles Laughton, he was GREAT! The American actors throughout history's got nothing on the English actors, I mean nothing! He may never have been a big star, he was simply an off the charts actor!
