Uh, a little confused why he is not wearing the actual versum solos. The top two strings had the spirocore design when the camera was on them.

If you let the video play til the end you’ll see that DeMaine was issued the prototype version (with Spirocore silk windings), not the final production Versum Solos which have the Versum Green color.

Thank you for this! I’ve used Versum and loved the A and D..have you ever used the G and C as a whole set? I love watching some video clips of LA..Phil. Does David G. Still, play cello there? He was a BSU student when I was there also. Thank you again,,your sound is amazing!!

Robert, you don't prefer to use the entire set of Versums, but prefer the Spirocore C and G? In what ways are they better, because I actually like the Versum lower strings as well...

Thomastik-Infeld Vienna I know these comments are months old but if anyone's reading them I'd like to add my two cents. I put a pair of these on top of my Spirocore Tungstens, nothing that I tried really worked well with them, I could give a list but I'll refrain from mentioning other companies. These strings are everthing Mr De Maine says they are, I have never really heard my cello sound like this. I do have a question though, the suggestion say to put them on top of Spirocore Tungsten for power or Versum standards for warmth. I like the power of my Spirocore Tungsten C, but the Spirocore Tungsten G is a bit overwhelming. I tried a Silver G but it's a bit warshy for lack of a better word. Is it unheard of to use a Versum G with a Spirocore Tungsten C? With the solos on top.

@@daisyjefferson434 Use whatever works ... I used Spirocore medium C and silver G for years on C and G on my Montagnana and Permanent on the A and D. For years Jargar A and D , always going back to medium tension , however the quality control on those strings became to undependable. I have not tried the Versum , I know Bobby and he is very knowledgable and wonderful cellist. The Strad never sounded better. On a side note, for years I used Piastro Eudoxa on the bottom , my cello never sounded better. I used the thinner gauge 26 and 36. Nobody could believe and then Lynn Harrell whom I was close and studying with switched as well. He ended up using Olive on the lower strings. Gut over silver opens of the upper strings like nothing else. My point , strings are a personal choice. Do what works best for you.
