Honestly floored by how on-point he is about cinema. I was expecting him to speak in more abstract terms that would be difficult to follow if you weren't some diehard cinephile, but he's just so insightful and thoughtful in the most comprehensible way possible. Also, there's something eerily prophetic about the way he talks about how then-contemporary media was causing both the decline and rebirth of the arts, seeing as that's pretty much what's happening today with the internet.

Insightful and articulate. Robert Bresson has a rhythm extraordinaire.

Could you imagine such an interview being conducted today. It would be impossible to find both an intellectual enough interviewer and a master filmmaker like Bresson.

For me, It's a top 20 for sure. And yes, it's the most dark and depressing tale I've even seen in cinema.

Great find! It's always nice to get insight into a director's process from the director himself.

A filmmaker who lived in the era regarded nowadays as the golden age of movies saying art was dying that time. Jeez.

His movies are transcendental and mystic. It's no chance that when he talks about cinema he is a prophet. His ideas are an epiphany for me. Discussimg about cinema theories he reaches the level of genius minds like Fellini and Tarkovskij

Haven't seen diary of a country priest. But the other 3 are most probably carved in gold as the pinnacle of French filmmaking along with Truffaut's Antoine Doniel trilogy, Godard's almost every movie, Jean-Pierre Melville's Le Samourai, Army of Shadows and Red Circle. The very best that French cinema has to offer along with 1995 masterpiece La Haine.

a true work of genius always tries to dissect and explore the deeper meaning of Life and its many contradictions and tragedies. FAITH says, "Ultimately, it is all A TEST." seemingly random. BUT A TEST nevertheless.

moreover, this film made me think a lot about how donkeys or equines were treated at the time in my country because when I go to the equestrian center of saint gervais drôme in the south of France have really more spiritual and also to put in the place it is a big positive point on the evolution compared to the human ratio \ animals and also point very interesting of this film it is the man who whips the poor donkey of course the ass obeyed him but once the finished is work and the man gives him to drink to reward him the ass refuses and turns his back why? because he feels the lack of empathy and love that this man has towards his misguidements I have finished my analysis and for all those who love animals watching this film it is at once beautiful, interesting, sad and especially important in Cinéma Français

This great movie is in the same time a huge love for the animals and it is in the same time a total opposition to the actual ideology of animal rights.

Maybe, but he's an excellent interviewer, creating space for his subject to express his profound ideas in the simplest possible terms. No attempt to match Bresson or impress with intellectual prowess. Sort of like a Bresson film, actually.
