I believe Robert truly was her execption when it came to marriage. But he was deeply unpopular with the people which is why she couldn't. It was not only to maintain her throne but also for Robert's safety

Elizabeth never married and had a hard time trusting people its not her fault, seeing her father cheat on her mother anne after fighting and waiting seven for anne and seeing her older half sister Mary fall in love with philip on to have her heart broken, she ddin't want a man to conrtol her,but if was able to marry any man she wanted she would have chossen robert dudly without hesitation,they seemed so in love, sadly it was not meant to be. i know that right now Elizabeth and Robert are together. REST IN PEACE Elizabeth
