ROBBING BANKS & AMBUSHING BRITISH SOLDIERS for the IRA | Brendan Hughes (East Tyrone PIRA Commander)

Brendan Hughes (not to be confused with "The Dark") talks about carrying out armed robberies to fund the IRA in the early years of the conflict and how fondly remembers those times. He tells us about his unit's ambushes in the countryside of county Tyrone on British troops.

Easy to spot a fighter like Brendan, every word is thoughtful & measured. No bull only facts & no boasting of ''look at me''. A man that would have made a success of any role he adopted but the war was brought to him & he responded willingly. Great interview!

Had the pleasure of briefly speaking with Brendan one night at a book launch in Monaghan (not his). Lovely man to speak too, ordinary man in extraordinary times. No mater what side of a divide someone comes from, people like Brendan’s voices need heard, in order to stop the perception that these men where terrorists etc. Like many young men/women, he was an ordinary man with his whole life in front of him, he could have led a nice quiet life but circumstances thrust him into a different world, no mater how tough it may be! I would rather hear honest factual accounts than revisionist bullshit, if we dont hear these peoples stories , they will be buried and rewritten by others with their own political agenda and narratives.
